By end2011, Red ACCION and partner institutions’ active portfolio closed at US$5,483.3 billion, and they reached 5,061,544 active clients, even when data from Crediamigo are only available through November. The portfolio at risk was 3.91%. During 2011, the number of active clients increased by 854,058 (20.3%), and the active portfolio grew US$955.4 million (21.1%). The portfolio at risk indicator had an increase of 0.01 points (from 3.92% in December 2010 to 3.91% in December 2011). The percentage growth in active clients throughout 2011 (as grouped in the report) is as follows: Partners in Africa and Asia grew 30.3%, followed by the group of service companies at 21.6%, regulated institutions at 20%, and NGOs grew 17.9%. The percentage growth in active portfolio is as follows: Service companies recorded the largest increase (42.5%), followed by partners in Africa and Asia (28.7%), regulated institutions (19 %) and NGOs (13.5%). During this period only one group registered an increase in its portfolio at risk: Regulated institutions (0.22 points). The remaining three groups in this report showed improvements in their portfolio quality, as follows: NGOs decreased 3.09 points, service companies 1.07 points and partners in Africa and Asia 0.96 points. The fastest growing institutions in this variable for partners in Africa and Asia were: EAMF in Cameroon, with a 128.4% increase (US$1.1 million) and ACCION Microfinance China "AMC,” with a 61.7% increase (2.3 million). Three institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean are noted for their growth in active clients. They were: SOGESOL in Haiti, with a 107.9% increase (12,387 clients); Bandelta in Panama, with a 85% increase (5,673 clients) and FAMA in Nicaragua, with a 38.3% increase (10,045 clients). We highlight Brazil’s Crediamigo’s performance in 2011, which surpassed the one million client mark. Institutions noted for their active client increases in Africa and Asia are: EAMF in Cameroon, with a 469% increase (2,799 clients) and Swadhaar in India, with a 56.7% increase (25,447 clients). The three institutions with the greatest improvement in portfolio quality during 2011 were: SOGESOL in Haiti (20.13 points), Fundación Mario Santo Domingo in Colombia (12.84 points) and Financiera FAMA in Nicaragua (6.29 points).

* Regulated Institutions experienced an active client increase of 746,449 (20%). In absolute terms, Compartamos in Mexico was the institution in this group that experienced the highest increase throughout 2011: 372,445 clients (19%). Furthermore, this group grew its active portfolio by US$754 million (19%). Mibanco in Peru was the institution in this group that increased the most in this variable: 244.9 million (18.8%).

* Service company clients rose by 45,305  (21.6%). In absolute terms, Credife in Ecuador experienced the largest increase, with 25,087 active clients (26.9%). As far as active portfolio, this group grew at a rate of 42.5% (US$171.3 million). Credife was also the institution that recorded the highest growth in this variable: US$143.6 million (46.3%).

* NGO active clients rose by 32,776 (17.9%). In absolute terms, Genesis Empresarial in Guatemala experienced the largest increase, with 27,721 active clients (21.4%). As far as active portfolio, this group grew US$13.2 million (13.5%). Genesis Empresarial was also the institution that recorded the highest growth in this variable: US$19.2 million (29.6%).

* Partners in Africa and Asia recorded a growth of 29,528 new clients (30.3%). In absolute terms, Swadhaar in India experienced the largest increase, with 25,447 clients. As far as active portfolio, this group grew US$16.9 million (28.7%). Akiba in Tanzania was the institution of the group that recorded the highest growth in this variable: US$6.3 million (21%).

 PORTFOLIO AT RISK > 30 DAYS – COMPARISON DECEMBER 2010 / DECEMBER 2011 

  Only the group of regulated institutions experienced an increase in its portfolio at risk (0.22 points). Furthermore, its indicator remains above the weighted average of all institutions by 0.24 

points.  

Service companies decreased 1.07 percentage points, which places this group below the total weighted average by 1.87 points.  

The group of NGOs showed the greatest improvement in this measure, as it decreased by 3.09 points during this period. It also remains below the weighted average of the total portfolio at risk. 

  The group of partners in Africa and Asia decreased its portfolio at risk by 0.96 points. However, it still remains 0.82 points above the weighted average.
