    1DESCRIBING WHEELUsing a Describing Wheel, students are given theopportunity to expand their thinking and knowledge of aparticular topic addressed in this novel. They are asked toselect one topic of interest and place it in the inner wheelof the diagram (i.e. parrots, newts). Following this they are

    asked to consider describing words about the topic, whichthey are to enter between the spokes. Found on Page 53.

    Choose a subject dealt with in Matilda (i.e. used cars, newts, parrots, famous authors,magic tricks, Olympics, England). Place the name of the subject in the center of the

    wheel and add describing words about your topic between the spokes. You may have to do some resear ch on your chos en topic to co me up with some good descr ibing word s.

    2 SEQUENCE CHARTThe plot of Matilda is lled with memorable events somuch so that it is a tall order to isolate the main eventsof the novel, as this assignment expects. In assigning theSequence Chart activity, it might be helpful for the teacher toremind the students that each event selected should be a keycomponent in moving the plot toward the climax of the novel(the scene where Matilda vanquishes Trunchbull).Found on Page 54.

    3 COMPARE AND CONTRAST MATRIXMatilda features an array of fascinating characters,

    from the quiet, sacricing Miss Honey, to the rude andhorrible Miss Trunchbull. For this activity the students are tochoose any two characters from the novel. They are to enterthe names of the two characters at the top of the framework.They are then to choose three attributes (either physicalfeatures or personality traits) to record under each charactersname.
