Computing Platform Trends / ANSYS Strategy
Compute servers
• Steady migration to servers or clusters based on multicore x86 / x64 processors running Windows or Linux
● Multicore processors from Intel and AMD
● Linux dominant; steady growth of Windows HPC Server 2008
● 64-bit OS now standard
• Declining footprint on other systems:
● IBM AIX/Power, Linux/Itanium (e.g., SGI Altix)
Desktop workstation / Interactive systems
• Windows dominant, both 64-bit and 32-bit
● Majority of ANSYS installed base
• Smaller, but significant, use of Linux – primarily 64-bit
ANSYS Strategy: Focus on x86/x64 processors running Windows or Linux, with extensive software development to exploit large multicore clusters.
