Career & Technical Programs

In the next few years, jobs requiring an Associate’s Degree or higher are projected to grow twice as fast as those requiring no college. Many new job opportunities in Iowa today are career and technical positions.

DMACC offers 252 programs, degrees and certificates. Most of these are in career and technical fields. These are rewarding, well-paying careers with opportunities for advancement. A DMACC Career and Technical degree provides graduates with the skills necessary to immediately become employable and competitive in the global marketplace.

ACCORDING TO THE U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS:

} Jobs requiring a two-year Associate’s Degree are expect-ed to grow at a faster rate between 2010 and 2020 than those requiring a four-year Bachelor’s Degree.

} The average wage of a worker with an Associate’s Degree in 2010 was $60,590, which is very close to the average wage for workers holding a Bachelor’s Degree ($63,430) and higher than the average wage of workers holding Master’s Degrees ($60,240). A two-year degree at DMACC costs thousands less than other education alternatives. Source: www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2012/01/art5full.pdf

WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE?An Associate’s Degree is an undergraduate degree requiring completion of a minimum of 64 credit hours.

Last year, nearly 15,000 high school students enrolled in DMACC’s Career Advantage Program to earn credit toward their Associate’s Degree.

DMACC Career Advantage classes are free and credits easily transfer to colleges and universities.

Turn college credits you’ve earned in high school into a college degree!

Many students who come to DMACC have already earned valuable college credit while in high school. DMACC recognizes this credit and creates a personal plan of study for each student that can reduce the time it takes to complete a degree and minimize the total cost of your education.

While some college credit will be helpful, a DMACC Associate’s Degree:

Prepares you for an effective transfer to a four-year college or university.

Provides new and unique perspectives on career choices, including preprofessional programs in law, medicine, education, business and more.

Connects you with partnership programs at public and private universities.

Saves you THOUSANDS of DOLLARS in tuition costs.

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities to develop leadership and service, an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals, lively fellowship for scholars, and stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

The full-tuition DMACC Valedictorian Scholarship is available to Iowa’s best students: those ranked first in their graduating class with an ACT Compos-ite score of 26 or higher. This scholar-ship pays 100% of tuition costs for two years, plus a $500-per-year stipend for books and supplies. DMACC also offers the Mark Pearson FFA Leadership Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship for qualifying FFA Chapter Presidents.

Our Honors Program is the first full-fledged, 20-credit honors program at an Iowa community college. It’s designed to help you expand your mind and prepare you to enter the workforce or continue to an honors program at a four-year college.

Make DMACC your school of choice next semester. Apply for our Honors Program after reading through the requirements. After you’re accepted as a DMACC student, go to www.dmacc.edu/honors to learn more about Honors at DMACC and to submit an electronic application form.
