DUBAI COMPETITION, THYSSEN KRUPP ELEVATOR

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Polytech Associates participated in the Thyssen Krupp Elevator Dubai Competition to create an emblematic structure that is meant to be a landmark for the modern city of Dubai.

The tower is a metaphor for natural growth, and uses the naturally-occurring Fibonacci sequence as a basis for the structure. The tower is powered through a combination of bio-climactic design, sunlight, and wind.

Polytech led the design process, and collaborated with global engineering fi rm Arup and landscape architecture fi rm SWA Group. The design integrated architectural, structural, and energy concepts to achieve a net-zero energy consuming tower.

Humani is a nonprofi t organization that is developing a self-sustaining community in Ethiopia. Young mothers suff ering from HIV/AIDS and their children will be given medical assistance, professional training, and employment opportunities in a safe environment. A school is being incorporated into the master plan, giving the young mothers access to an education that will allow them to develop marketable skills.

The organization is currently negotiating with the Ethiopian government for the 300 acres of land that will be necessary to build the compound. The plan includes small groups of buildings that will house the numerous functions within a fenced master compound. On-site utilities will be designed for conservation, with the goal of developing a net-zero community.

235 PINE STREET, 17TH FLOOR

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Polytech Associates is an architecture, planning, and interior design fi rm in San Francisco, CA. At the expiration of their lease in 2011, the fi rm’s leadership determined that a larger offi ce was necessary in order to support the fi rm’s growing project load. Polytech created a series of test-fi ts for each space under consideration, identifying the 17th Floor at 235 Pine Street as the candidate that would provide the space needed currently, and would allow the fi rm to continue to grow its staff over the next ten years.

Polytech’s design staff developed the interior architecture and interior design program for the approximately 7,800 sf tenant improvement program.
