Typography:Useful Information – Font Types

{ Serif }In typography, a serif is the little extra stroke

found at the end of main vertical and

horizontal strokes of some letterforms.

Uses: Serif typefaces have historically been

credited with increasing both the readability

and reading speed of long passages of text

because they help the eye travel across a line.

[ Sans Serif ]In typography sans serif is a category of

typefaces that do not use serifs, small

lines at the ends of characters.

Uses: According to most studies, sans

serif fonts are more difficult to read. For

this reason, they are used most often for

short text components such as headlines

or captions.

Follow these instructions:

Using the project you chose in the first activity put your information

together in a useful way. Eg Presentations: Beginning middle & end. Eg

Posters and flyers: Rank importance of information. And decide on

headings etc.

Choose a font that communicates your message and a colour scheme

using Pantone as your guide. Activity

Page 15: Design & Presentation Workshop

5. Gather Feedback

Page 17: Design & Presentation Workshop

Follow these instructions:

Swop places with another group and look at the information collected

from their research right through to the solutions they developed and

make notes on their finished piece.

Some things to consider:

- Does it communicate the message?

- Would you do anything differently?

- Are there any mistakes in the text / imagery used?

- What do you think works?

Activity

6. Improve

Page 19: Design & Presentation Workshop

Follow these instructions:

Review the feedback you received and discuss what changes you would

make now that you have received an outside opinion and if you would

make no changes have a reason why you think no changes are needed.

If there is time one person from each group should present their project

and discuss changes they would / wouldn’t make.
