Student Representative Council (SRC) 2015

Parent/Student/Teacher ‘Getting to Know You’ Meetings We will be conducting these interviews in the week starting 23

rd February 2015. You will soon be able to log onto the school

website and click the link to ensure you book your desired time over the week. There will be a notice coming home to outline the procedure. Booking will be open on Thursday (Tomorrow) from 3.00pm. These meetings are a chance for you to talk to your child’s teacher and inform them of information you think we should be aware of to assist your child this year. Year 6 Camp As you read this Valley Views I will be enjoying time with the Year 6 students at The Briars Camp, Mt Martha. Every year this is a tremendous camp where the students are encouraged to meet many challenges with the help of their peers in a very supportive and fun manner. I am sure I will once again have a great day. Check the school Facebook page for updates. Swimming Trials Monday the Grade 4-6 students travelled to Koo Wee Rup Pool to participate in the KVPS Swimming trials. They had a fabulous day full of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, fun noodle races and beautiful weather. The PE department would like to thank the wonderful parent helpers who assisted on the day along with Mrs Newport. Stay tuned as this week the results of Monday’s carnival are being collated and our District Swimming Squad will be announced. District Swimming Carnival is held on Wed 25th Feb at the Pines Aquatic Centre Frankston North. Breakfast Club Breakfast Club begins next Fri 20th Feb. Like last year meals will be FREE to ALL students. Breakfast Club is on EVERY Friday from 8:30-9am in the Gymnasium. Parent Helpers welcome. School Council - Elections We have our first meeting for the year next Monday evening and once again I remind you that everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. The School Council election process will commence next week. I will have more details in next week’s Valley Views about the process you will need to follow if you are interested in joining the School Council for 2015. If you have any queries please catch me at school or ring to make an appointment so I can have a chat about the role. Have a great week and keep smiling! Neil Cunningham

Please help our Breakfast Club!

These numbers demonstrate the popularity and need for this program amongst our community. It is a wonderful chance for students and families to socialize and make a healthy start to their day. Select our school as part of your registration.

Once you are registered, you can browse all the items

from the Junior, Middle and Upper brochures, view

more information about the products and add them to

an order for each student individually. You won’t need to register again to do this.

2. Hand in your brochure to school with a cash payment

Alternatively, you can complete the order form on

the back of the brochure and hand this back to

WELFARE CORNER

Getting organised:

Most children generate a little chaos and disorganisation. Your child

might flit from one thing to the next – forgetting books at school,

leaving towels on the floor, and failing to finish projects once started.

You’d like them to be more organised and to stay focused on tasks,

such as homework. Is it possible? Yes! A few children seem

naturally organised, but for the rest, organisation is a skill learned

over time. With help and some practice, children can develop an

effective approach to getting things done. And you’re the perfect

person to teach your child, even if you don’t feel all that organised

yourself.

Easy 1,2,3

For children, all tasks can be broken down into a 1,2,3 process.

1. Getting organised means a child gets where he or she needs

to be and gathers the supplies needed to complete the task.

2. Staying focused means sticking with the task and learning to

say “no” to distractions.

3. Getting it done means finishing up, checking your work, and

putting on the finishing touches, like remembering to put a

homework paper in the right folder and putting the folder

inside the backpack so it’s ready for the next day.

Once children know these steps and how to apply these steps they

can start tackling tasks more independently. That means homework,

chores and other tasks will get done with increasing consistency and

efficiency. Of course, children need parental help and guidance, but

you probably won’t have to nag as much. Not only is it practical to

teach these skills, but knowing how to get things done will help your

child feel more competent and effective. Children feel self-confident

and proud when they’re able to accomplish their tasks and

responsibilities. They’re also sure to be pleased when they find they

have some extra free time to do what they would like to do.
