From Fr. Tony “Brothers and sisters: the cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ?” (1 Cor. 10:16a). This passage from this weekend’s second reading really came to life for me this past week…literally. These last several weeks, I have been meaning to do some yard work around the house. There are a lot of weeds to pull and brush to be pulled out. So, after supper this past week, I decided to start pulling the dead branches around the rose bushes. Holy cows! The thorns on the bushes are sharp! After I was done, I had several small puncture wounds all over my hands. As I looked at the bloody spots on my hands, I could not help but think about the crown of thorns that were placed on our Lord’s head. I was in pain with little thorns; I couldn’t imagine how painful it was for Him to have huge thorns pushed into His skull. Nonetheless, it was kind of a neat feeling to be able to participate in a

similar pain as our Lord did, granted a very small participation of suffering compared to our Lord’s unimaginable pain. However, that is what we are invited to experience this weekend. Not only are we able to celebrate our Lord’s gift to us in His Body and Blood, but we also participate in His life, death, and resurrection (the Paschal Mystery) at every Mass, which is why Word and Communion services are not Masses. Although a person listens to scripture, meditates on the homily (if a deacon is presiding), and receives the Eucharist, those who celebrate do not participate in the Paschal Mystery of our Lord, because it is not the Mass. It is not the participation in the ultimate sacrifice of Christ. Although, I am not sure when I will get to pulling the rest of the weeds around my house (or if I will), one thing I can be certain is that Christ will always

provide us with His awesome gift of Himself. We can always guarantee that there will always be weeds, but in a more profound and powerful way, so will Christ’s presence always be there for us as well, and even better. Therefore, we don’t need to prick ourselves with the thorns to participate in the suffering of Christ, we just need to come down the aisle and receive our Lord in Holy Communion and respond, “Amen!” (“I believe!”)SPECIAL THANKS TO…

John Pohlen and his family.  We received $7,291.57 from the John Pohlen Estate for St. Anne’s and $7,293.29 for St. Mary’s.  The family has asked that we put St. Anne’s portion into the Fr. Diehl Endowment.  May he be blessed with eternal life and blessings to his family, who helped in processing these gifts.  If you would like to learn how you can help our parishes and school out, please come to Thursday’s “End of Life Seminar” at St. Anne’s.  Learn about legacy giving, funeral arrangements, legal advice, and health care directives (see attachment).

CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY“We must neither doubt nor hesitate with respect to the words of the Lord; rather we must be fully persuaded that every word of God is true and possible, even if our nature should rebel against the idea – for in this lies the test of faith.” - St. Basil the Great

LIGHT LINERS“Maybe if we’d be quite, we’d hear God speak!”

STEWARDSHIP: PRAYING GRATEFULLY, SERVING RESPONSIBLY, GIVING GENEROUSLY “As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold purpose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it is a road map to Heaven. Let’s help each other get there!”

Custodian’s CornerRespect for the Holy EucharistAs Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist really and truly is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, presented to us under the appearance of bread and wine. It looks like, smells like, tastes like, and feels like bread and wine, but in reality, it is the True Presence of God Himself. Many miracles have attested to this fact throughout history. St. Padre Pio once said, “The Earth could exist more easily without the sun than without the Eucharist.” Despite this belief, there are many who do not show proper respect for the Eucharist, especially during Holy Communion at Mass. Granted, there are many who do show due reverence to the Eucharist, whether He is received on the tongue (which is the preferred way since it ensures that Jesus is not accidentally dropped on the floor) or in the hand. However, I have observed many who come up in the Communion line, but display a careless way of receiving Our Lord, like they are not even thinking about Who they are encountering nor even give Him a single thought. It is like they are simply punching in their time card for Mass that week instead of opening themselves to the greatest of all graces given to us by God. As we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this week, let us renew our devotion to the Eucharist in order to be an example to others, and if necessary, have the courage to gently remind our neighbor of the respect that is required before so great a mystery. O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine! Dan Davis

On Sunday, June 25, Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm is hosting their Summer Festival from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Our Curiosity Shop (garage sale) opens at 9 a.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, smoked ribs, German potato salad, taco in a bag, and more will be served on the grounds. There will be bingo, book sales, crafts sales, games, along with live entertainment. Don’t miss this fun event!

The Diocese of New Ulm will again be offering Summer Organ Lessons. Summer Organ Lessons are a great opportunity for pianists wanting to learn the organ, or for organists who would like to improve their technique. Parish musicians are especially encouraged to participate. Vatican II declared that the pipe organ is to be held in “high esteem” as the “traditional instrument” of the Latin rite. In light of this, the organ ought to be used regularly in parish liturgies. Lessons are 5 for $50 with the option of adding up to three additional lessons for $10/lesson. Brochures are available through your parish office. Forms are due June 23, 2017.

The Wabasso Lions are sponsoring their 46th Annual Pork BBQ on Wednesday, June 28 to be held at the Wabasso Community Center serving from 5-8 p.m. There will be a polka band, kid’s activities and pedal pull, and baseball games at the baseball field with first pitch at 5 p.m. Come and enjoy the fun.

CATHERINE – REDWOOD FALLS & ST. JOHN – MORTON From Fr. Steffl – A while ago, I was approached by someone who asked me why I don’t ever offer any pilgrimages, so I gave this some thought and spoke with a company who organizes Catholic Pilgrimages to different places around the world. So I scheduled a pilgrimage to Italy for January 22-Feb 2, 2018. The pilgrimage will visit Rome (the main basilicas, Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel, the Vatican, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, the Catacombs), Montecassino, which is the first Benedictine Monastery founded by St. Benedict in the 6th Century and found in the hills of central Italy), San Giovanni Rotondo (where Padre Pio lived and is buried), the Amalfi Coast, and Pompeii (with its ruins of a Roman city that was covered by ash and lava in 79 AD, and is also the site of a famous Marian

It is being organized by Proximo Travel, which specializes in Catholic Pilgrimages, and comes highly recommended.
