Holidays

•  Expats should not assume that public holidays follow a fixed schedule year after year.

•  The Chinese government periodically adjusts the holiday schedule. (This pattern is related to the relatively high tolerance for ambiguity in China.)

Holidays: Example

•  If Thursday is a public holidays, the government might decide to make the following Friday into a holiday, and turn Sunday into a working day.

Ø Multinational corporations that do not follow this schedule create inconvenience for employees and businesses

•  Expats should pay respect to their counterparts by mentioning their title, scope of job, and or responsibilities. (There is a relatively high respect for status/power distance in China.)
