Port Saint Nicholas Hatchery
Project Goals
Provide 250,00 hatchery supplemented 1+ smolt chinook production for the Craig area egg through smolt
Ultimately production is geared to increasing sport catch in Craig area
Participants / Partners
Prince of Wales Hatchery Association
City Of Craig SSRAA - eyed eggs(Chickamin)
Program Funding
PSN Hatchery construction funded by SSF and community economic grant
Operational funding is from a combination of SSF, Craig salmon derby proceeds, charter operators donations, community support
Technology
Conceived as a complete incubation and rearing facility – benefits
Multi- mode operation as full flow through, partial reuse or limited flow and SSO2 (supersaturated oxygenated water) augmented.

Water Supply
Via 12 mile single pipeline from a 100 acre lake at 600 feet elevation that supplies Craig water treatment plant – gravity flow – 12 inch main – 205 PSI – side-tapped with 8 inch to enter building at
proximity of water treatment plant – pressure reduced by 4 PRV’s inside mechanical
room. – Temperature fluctuations from 2C to 18C – Reasonably clean and silt free
Pressure Utilization • Pressure is reduced to 3 PSI levels for Hatchery
use • Process water reduced to 24 to 30 PSI through
main and back up water supply. (Variable) • SSO2 supply at variable 40 to 60 PSI to feed
oxygen contactor • - High pressure supply variable from 60 to 90 PSI --
- venturi introduction of oxygen to contactor - operates venturi system for degassing at column - offers a venturi option for suction wand attachments for mort removal
• high pressure water delivery to various points around the hatchery for high pressure cleaning.

Oxygenation
• An oxygen generator provides oxygen for the SS02 system
• 35LPM Oxair with a compressor that can output finished product at 90 psi with an integral compressor at 95% purity.
• Self contained storage for O2 . • Back up is bottled 02 set in parallel slightly
under regulated output pressure of the O2 compressor on the Oxair 35 negating need for a solenoid to induce 02 in event of a failure
To obtain SS02 we need pressure regulated amounts of water and oxygen and pressure capable vessel (contactor)

Drainage
• Built in waste scavenging system to clarify reuse water prior to re-circulation
• Cone or waste settling sump as part of drain system
• Purge pipe and valve to drain sump that redirects waste to settling pond
• Cone also helps alleviate concerns about downstream pollution effects

Conditioning Columns
• Each conditioning column is the basis for its own re-circulation unit
• Each column consists of a de-gasser, a reservoir, collector sump , standpipe sump, pump sump, electric submersible pump and variable speed controller
• Each column is also fitted with process water delivery, re-circulated water delivery, high pressure and venturi options as well as SSO2 injection into the reservoir.
