ABOUT US:

The Department of Business administration (DOBA) has been successfully offering the MBA

Programme from 1972 onwards, to underline its presence and to help build the nation in its

march towards Economic resurgence; Department of Management studies (DOMS) started the

MBA programme in 1994 with the approval of AICTE. DOMS has adopted time honoured as

well as innovative methods to metamorphose the student material to an effective managerial

material in a short span of two years. In addition to the normal curriculum, specific and

appropriate personality development courses and counseling are done to enable us to achieve the

above objective.

The department provides sound infrastructure with eminent and well experienced faculty. Almost

all members of the faculty have industrial experience spanning to decades. The rich background

enables them to illustrate each theory and principle taught through examples of practical

experience which is of paramount practical value for the students. In addition to the above, to

update the students with the current industrial scenario, the Department of Management Studies

also bring a number of personalities from the industry as visiting lectures.

ABOUT COURSE:

Our Two – year full time MBA Programme integrates Business theory, Critical skills and

Practical application of both these through hands-on experiences and activity based learning.

These elements are not taught separately they are integrated into inclusive curriculum.

ELIGIBILITY Must have graduated in any discipline with 50% aggregate marks in 10 +2+3

or 10+3+3 format and must have PASSED an entrance exam conducted by

either MAT or TANCET or CONSORTIUM of Self Financing Colleges.

The eligibility criteria are subject to change by the Higher Education

Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and the Madurai Kamaraj University.

DURATION TWO YEARS (4 SEMESTERS)

AIR- CONDITIONED SMART CLASSROOMS:

The fully air conditioned classrooms

provide a conducive and comfortable

environment where in the students are

unperturbed by the changing weather

conditions.

The smart classrooms are to facilitate

efficient teaching and learning with fully

equipped sophisticated technological

gadgets.

Smart classes use all interactive modules

like videos and presentations and these visually attractive methods of teaching becomes

appealing to students who are already struggling with the traditional method of teaching in a

classroom. In fact, smart classes are almost like watching movies as sometimes, animated visuals

are used to teach a point. This kind of visual is both eye-catching and young students can easily

relate with them. This is because the audio-visual senses of students are targeted and it helps the

students store the information fast and more effectively. And then, there is the advantage of

utilizing much of the time wasted earlier in drawing or preparing diagrams on board.

MORDERN TEACHING AIDS

Smart Classrooms are equipped with the state-of-art computer, large screen and audiovisual

equipment. It provides the tools for faculty to incorporate a wide range of media in instruction,

save the annotation of the course content presentation, and to enrich student learning experience.

Our library has vast collection of

management books, which satisfy the

various needs of the students (Number of

books: 8000 Plus). In addition to this,

leading business magazines and

newspapers are subscribed. To ensure

speedy, reliable and accurate current

information to students, the department is

equipped with several videocassettes,

CDS and research publications in the

library.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTER (COMPUTER LAB):

The Air- Conditioned Hi-Tech multimedia Computers Lab equipped with the latest configuration

and software related to Management Studies like Tally, SPSS, Etc. The Computer lab has more

than 75 networked computers with Internet connection.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Hostels are provided only for girls separately. Hostel is attached to the College and is located

within the premises of the College. Admission into hostels will be considered only after the

admission into Sourashtra College.

MASC:

MASC - Management Association of Sourashtra College is the brain child of our students and

staff fromed with an aim to bring out the inherent talent of our students to the limelight. MASC

serves as the touch bearer by inviting eminent guest lecturers from academicians and

industrialists to give a ringside view of the dynamic business world.

Industrial visits are often arranged for our students to get and awareness of the corporate

realities. MASC has been also arranging psychosomatic health programmes for executives such

as yoga, Transcendental Meditation, Art of living and transactional Analysis.

FRIDAY COLLOQUIM

Every Friday is devoted to student’s personality development activities. Students are divided into

groups and each group is given weekly responsibility to conduct the program. Other groups will

be participating. Activities like Management Games, Quiz & Business plan etc are conducted

among the students to enrich their knowledge and to gain experience. Other activities like

weekly report on stock, gold, silver, oil etc is presented by students. Every week guest speakers

are invited for sharing their knowledge and their experience supporting students for event

management.

Case analysis, Presentation and Group Discussion are conducted regularly, to enhance the

students' communication skills and promote free exchange of ideas and opinions. Situational

Analysis, Management Games & Role play are conducted to develop the decision making skill in

the students.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Entrepreneurship Development Programme is organized every year by Department Of

Management Studies, Sourashtra College Madurai in collaboration with [CED] Center of

Entrepreneurship Development, Madurai (Public Charitable Trust and functioning as an

independent state level entrepreneurship development institution recognized by Ministry of

Small Scale Industry, Government of India, New Delhi and Industries Department, Government

of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.)

The Programme is aimed at creating awareness among students about various facts of

entrepreneurship by highlighting the merits of pursuing it as career option. The students are

exposed to different aspects of entrepreneurship, including opportunity guidance, services

offered by agencies of support systems etc. The workshop is been regularly conducted by MBA

Department every year.

The Faculty members of Department of Management Studies are known for their out-of- the-box

teaching and pedagogy methods. One such programme is the Industrial Visit (IV). Industrial

visit focuses on preparing the students to learn about the day-to-day working environment of

Sourashtra Premier League (SPL) is an intra college tournament conducted between all Post

graduate and under graduated students every year. Sourashtra Premier League’s primary mission

is to create opportunities for students to play team sports where they can learn essential skills and

life lessons.

PONGAL DAY CELEBRATION

People can clearly see the activities related to Pongal celebration, once the chill in the air heralds

the festive occasion of Pongal. The festival is celebrated by Department of Management Studies

(MBA) on January 15th every year and is also one of the longest celebrations in the Tamil

calendar, spread over four days. As part of age-old belief and in the hope that the month of

‘Thai’ will usher in good fortunes, people go agog with joy.

TEACHER’S DAY

Teacher’s Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in many parts of the world. The day is

dedicated to teachers, who play a prominent role in the life of their students. The teachers act as

the guide for life, show the path towards success and enrich the personality of their disciples by

imparting ethical and academic knowledge. Special celebration conducted by Department of

Management Studies to honor Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan every year.

INTERNSHIP AND PLACEMENTS

INTERNSHIP

The Department of Management Studies has an active Training & Placement Cell to facilitate placements

internships and other related activities. Internship of students with the corporate houses is one of the

important components of the course curriculum of MBA at Sourashtra College. Such internship not only

exposes the students to the real business situations but also provide them with an opportunity to deal with

the selected business projects that warrant scholarly analysis and investigation. Immediately after

completing their 3rd semester, the students are placed with various reputed business houses across the

country where they carry out typical research projects allotted to them by the respective organizations.

During the 4th semester, the interns are required to write the project report under the joint supervision of

the mentor from the relevant organization and a faculty from the Department.

The internship is for a period of 6-8 weeks and begins in the first week of February every year. The

selection of organizations and the placement of students is a meticulous process and are done by the well-

established by department. The Placement cell is headed by Director, Dr.S.Thaigarajan, who is assisted

by a team of Faculty members. The internship placement also promotes liaison between the company on

the one hand and the Department of Management Studies and its students on the other and therefore sets

the stage for the final placement of students.

PLACEMENT

There exists a high degree of emphasis on maintaining close liaison with the Industry & other employers.

Interaction of the students with professionals from Industry is arranged regularly. This is apart from the

regular training & mock interview sessions arranged for grooming up the students for final placements.

The Department has an impressive placement record as a good number of the maiden batch of its

outgoing students has been placed in various business houses of national repute. We believes in our huge

talent pool of young potential managers equipped with sharp analytical and problem-solving abilities,

impeccable attitude, and a capability to manage and lead change. As we move into the current phase of

consolidation and growth, Sourashtra College, Department of Management Studies is surely going to find
