Editorial “I don't know where I'm going But, I sure know where I've been Hanging on the promises In songs of yesterday An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time But, here I go again Here I go again” Coverdale/Marsden

Well, we got here by the skin of our teeth…kicking and screaming, blood oozing from our fingernails, battered and torn…but we’ve achieved the monthly publishing cycle and another bumper issue full of talented biking folk from around the world.

DURO RIDER has been in existence for over a year now and the Gazette’s first issue was released back in April…so it’s come a long way in a short period. I set out with a clear goal which was to produce a publication that was completely different from all others, not only in terms of style and content, but also how it’s structured and marketed. There is one basic premiss of the Gazette, and that is to showcase the talent, life stories & topical biking issues from around the globe of motorcycle riding. It has never strayed from that path and will always stay true to that notion because when I see anything that is jaw dropping good…whether in its infancy or fully matured, then it deserves a helping hand to get noticed.

This publication may not be appealing to the wider biking public…but if you want a bike magazine that delivers something unique and delves into creativity and artistry from talented bikers…then you’re in the right place.

TOY RUN

RECORD BREAKING

SANTA SUITS & WOOKIEES

Every year, in all four corners of the globe, during the lead up to Christmas we have the ubiquitous toy runs…some small sized, some medium and some…well…flippin’ huge. The Reading Toy Run in the UK had its 30th anniversary this year and seems to grow not only in acclaim but also in popularity. Last year it entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest motorcycle Toy Run in the world with an officially recorded 1753 participants…all in aid of Barnardo’s children’s charity. This year, although damp with drizzle, the crowds were not dissuaded from attending or lining the roads as the procession passed on by. Every type of bike and every type of biker in attendance…some with very colourful costumes and decorated bikes, hundreds dressed in Santa suits, elfs, snowmen and even a few Star Wars characters were represented too; my favourite being an X Wing Fighter Pilot.

DURO RIDER Gazette ISSUE SEVEN

The Reading Toy Run is organised by the local Christian Bikers and it attracts hundreds of bikers from all aspects of the biking fraternity to join together, mid winter, in bringing gifts and toys to the major children’s charity.

Doing something worthwhile especially where children are concerned does not require persuasion, however whilst riders from all over the area and beyond attend to do a good deed…there are other reasons why it’s a great event.Going anywhere where 1000s of bikers are congregating for one sole purpose is spiritual, but it’s also a great

opportunity to meet old and new friends, ride in a procession and have cheering crowds think you’re the biz…and ride along a road that’s been purposely closed to give you priority is pretty cool too…if only to ride through red traffic lights…just because you can. What makes this kind of event a real joy too are the things that normally go unnoticed but are crucial to the success.

Whilst most who come in on their bikes, trikes…of new or old, decked out in glitter, tinsel and twinkling lights are worthy of mention and praise…for me the real honours go to the organisers and the marshalls. With meticulous planning and fervent execution, us mere rolling santas, smurfs and wookiees are filtered, corralled and guided to the destination a few miles away to deliver the toys which will then be distributed around the UK over the coming months. We all know we are there to do some good in the world and whilst bikers may get the thin end of the wedge of public opinion…at times...it is a day that we be held in high regard and have a good time too. It's a symbiotic relationship that is as much about altruism as it is about selfish delight…a perfect combination that raises a smile, fills hearts and no doubt sheds the odd tear or two. When we think of Christmas we could be forgiven for thinking it’s all about consumerism, but these kinds of events remind us there is purity, passion and compassion left in the world…and a lot is coming from the biking community. Long may it grow and grow!

We're so excited to be part of this fantastic new album and adventure into country biker roads music. An all acoustic outing, this amazing album features some of Pat's hits done acoustically and unplugged in new styles for him.  Hits like Chasing The Clouds, Ridin Hard Livin Free and Harley Man are reborn on this collection, and in a whole new way! Savage Steel  is also charged with great new songs written in many different styles: Country, Folk and Blues with a back porch singing hillbilly flavour. A bunch of biker bros jamming at a biker BBQ party!

“With soulful melodies and toe tapping tunes, this album crosses genres and unites all tastes & persuasions” “Pat Savage…you’ve delivered a gift, which captures the imagination and essence of a great sound that becomes your best riding buddy on a long winding road”
