exciting when all the students receive their costumes and are working on their routines for the show. If a

parents pay late or the student enrolls later than the 1st initial recital costume payment, the dancer will

receive the costume before the Recital show but may not receive it at the same time as others. Thus, being

front desk. If you are a dancer, cell phones need to be turned off during class.

5. Walking ONLY in hallways: No running, No jumping, No tumbling within the hallways.

6. Dance bags and additional school bags need to be placed in designated areas only. If this rule is not

applied parents will need to come and pick up their child’s bags. Dancers will need to bring bags with

them into the classrooms when taking class.

7. If students are late to class they must ask permission to join class. If they are more than 10 minutes

late the teacher may have them sit for the remainder of the class. (Please call ahead if there are

traffic problems or emergencies).

8. Students, who misbehave, disrupting class, cry excessive, show lack of respect or attitude towards

their teacher or classmates, we DO NOT tolerate such behavior at ECPA at any time. The students

will be asked to sit in class, or asked to leave the classroom. Parents will be called by our front desk

staff. If this behavior continues we will have to kindly ask the family to leave ECPA. It is unfair to

hinder the learning and education of those around you due to the child not cooperating or

misbehaving. The same behavior is enforced in our common area hallways.

9. Parents are NOT allowed within the classroom unless invited in. Please do not try and reprimand

your child during class unless they are sent out by the teacher. Also, if a teacher needs to speak to a

parent it can only be done between classes. Please understand if the conversation is longer than a few

moments the teacher will need to follow up at a later time with a phone call or email. Teachers can

not take away time from other students in the classroom. Please also feel free to reach out to the

director if needed at any time: Cara Lundquist: [email protected]

10. Parents with children in our “Broadway Baby Classes,” MUST stay at the location for the duration

of class due to bathroom trips, safety, and child comfort if needed. **Please do not ask another

parent of nonfamily member to watch your child during class. That is not accepted.

Competitive Dance Team information at:

East Coast Performing Arts

Our competitive dance team is a dance family. We all have a special passion for the arts and encouraging little

ones to pursue their dreams! It’s important to know we are more than just a competitive dance team. Our

company dancers learn the importance of balance between family, academics, and a love for the arts. They gain

lifelong friends, confidence, life lessons, all while being surrounded by positive role models. We take pride as a

team of teachers encouraging our children to be the best they can be at home, in school and in the classroom at the

studio. Our dancers graduate with honors and scholarships in academics and athletics each year. My goal as a

studio owner is for our children to be successful individuals who are happy and healthy with the choices they

make in life. It’s important as they grow they learn commitment, dedication, difficulty making decisions, earning

placement & awards by hard work, patience, and the time they put in. Anyone ages 5 to 18 are welcome to come

to our open auditions during the summer if interested in our competitive dance team. Please ask the front desk for

more information on our annual auditions! We have 4 different types of competitive dance programs at our

studio. The 4 different types are:

Pre-Company

Mini-Company

ECPA Company

Elite Travel Team

Apprentice/Understudy

Pre-Company: ($350 A one time fee paid at the beginning of the year) Additional fee is the monthly tuition

for one class a week. These are 3 to 6 year olds that are chosen from our “Broadway Baby” Program and Petite

Classes. The teachers who choose these students are looking for a child with a love for the arts, music,

movement, athletic potential & coordination, memory retention, good behavior, a strong work ethic and

consistency in attendance. They are asked to be in a special class at the beginning of the year with others that have

been chosen. This class is 1.5hours once a week. They learn 2 subjects of dance and choreography to perform at

the Holiday Showcase, Company Showcase (Both local events), 2 competitions with our ECPA Team during the

Spring (usually only one day on a Saturday or Sunday), and our annual June Recital. They receive a custom

costume, a custom ECPA T-Shirt, and multiple awards at their events. This is a very special experience for any

child chosen for this team.

Mini-Company: (Monthly Tuition: $200 for 4.5 Total Hours) Students are 5 to 10 year olds, who are asked,

invited, or interested in our competition team. Our Mini Company members take Ballet, Lyrical, Leaps/Turns,

Jazz, and Tap. Additional classes can be taken (tumble, hip-hop, pointe, silk/lyra) and all company members do

receive a discounted rate for all classes if chosen for our team. After summer auditions, parents receive an email

within 2 to 3 weeks to let them know if their child has made the team or may need a little more time to progress

before competing. Any questions regarding prices can be asked at any time with our front desk. These students

take an average of 5 hours of dance a week, plus a 1 hour company rehearsal to learn their routine and practice it

weekly. They receive a custom made costume and are required to have an ECPA Company Jacket to wear at all

their events they attend. They compete at 3 competitions during the spring of Feb.-May and they also compete at

1 National competition in June or beginning of July. In June they will attend our “Get on the Floor,” summer

intensive and auditions. This is a weeklong camp that gives them the opportunity to try out for our team the

following year. This is also an amazing experience where they get personal instruction from famous guest

teachers. The teachers come from across the country to teach our competitive dancers an exciting education! Our

dancers are also required to participate in a “BOOTCAMP” each year before going to nationals with their team.

This is when the ECPA teachers teach classes/rehearsals, play games, build our team up and get them ready for

their final competition of the season!

ECPA Company: (Monthly Tuition: $300 for 9.5 Hours—This rate is subject to change based on class

placement) These are dancers 9 to 18 years old that are extremely dedicated to their craft. They take

Ballet/Technique 3 times a week. They also take Jazz/Lyrical, Tap, Hip-Hop or Pointe and Tumble or Silks. On

average they are at the studio 7.25 hours a week for training and 2 to 3 hours additional for rehearsals. They

receive a discount on all classes they take and have specific requirements for training. They receive custom made

costumes and are required to have an ECPA Company Jacket to wear at all their events they attend. These

dancers attend 1 mandatory dance convention where they have the opportunity to train with some of the best

teachers in the country! They have the chance to audition and win multiple scholarships at the convention. It is an

exciting experience for the whole team! In additional to the convention, these dancers compete at 3 competitions

during the spring of Feb.-May and they also compete at 1 National competition in June or beginning of July. In

June they will attend our “Get on the Floor,” summer intensive and auditions. This is a weeklong camp that gives

them the opportunity to try out for our team the following year. This is also an amazing experience where they

get personal instruction from famous guest teachers. The teachers come from across the country to teach our

competitive dancers an exciting education! Our dancers are also required to participate in a “BOOTCAMP” each

year before going to nationals with their team. This is when the ECPA teachers teach classes/rehearsals, play

games, build our team up and get them ready for their final competition of the season! (Monthly Tuition Discount

for 2nd

Child: $264, 3rd

Child: $231)

Elite Travel Team: (Monthly Tuition is based on class placement) This team has been created for the more

serious dancers on our team. We encourage these students to attend multiple conventions to expand their

education and get in front of the “working” dancers and teachers in the industry. They are students who want to

pursue dance after high school, into college and at a professional level. These students also take multiple summer

intensives, ballet camps and travel across the country to better their education, audition for scholarships and

compete at the highest level.

Apprentice/Understudy: (Monthly Tuition is based on class placement)This is an opportunity to be part of our

ECPA Competitive Dance Team, learning the dedication, training, and understanding of what it takes to perform

and compete on stage. They take all the required classes as an ECPA company member, receiving the discounts,

Jacket, and attending any team building events. These dancers do not actually compete on stage or have

rehearsals. However, they are welcome to support the team at any competition and attend the dance convention

with the team. They may need a little more time to develop technically, musically or with flexibility. They could

be considered an understudy if need for a specific part. Parents learn the responsibility and dedication of the

training schedule without the additional company expenses of competing.

2017-2018 East Coast Performing Arts

Understanding Subjects of Dance & What We Offer at ECPA

More Information can be found on our website: www.eastcoastperformingarts.com

**All of our dance floors at ECPA are raised to reduce injury and protect prolonged movement of the muscular body

for all of our students.

Ballet & Pointe: At East Coast Performing Arts we strive to be the best we can be in our technique and training.

We understand that Ballet is the foundation of dance and it is extremely important for any athlete or artist. Our

technical instructors at ECPA are educated and certified in the Bolshoi Academy of Russian Ballet.

The Bolshoi Ballet has a historical rivalry with St. Petersburg heritage ballet company, the Mariinsky. Both

have developed very different performing styles: the Bolshoi has a more colorful and bold approach, whereas the

Mariinsky is associated with pure and refined classicism. The Bolshoi style is also characterized by its power. It

combines phenomenal technique and athleticism, expressiveness and dramatic intensity. These attributes go all the

way back to Gorsky who considered acting to be as important as dancing, with Grigorovich’s melodramatic

ballets (Spartacus, Ivan The Terrible, The Golden Age) bringing out poise and flamboyance. Our teachers

choreograph both Classical and contemporary pieces to provide the students with as much depth in history and the

present of Russian curriculum as possible.

Tap Dance: is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of

percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap.

Jazz Dance: An ever-changing hybrid, jazz dance was born out of the meeting of African American vernacular

dance with ballet, musical theater, and social dance styles from the Charleston to the Frug. Like its namesake music,

jazz has proven to be an enduring form of creative expression, at turns sensual, lyrical, and percussive.

Musical Theatre: is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The

story and emotional content of a musical – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the words,

music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

Hip-Hop Dance: refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part

of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in

the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States.

Lyrical Dance: A fusion of Ballet and Jazz Techniques. Lyrical dancing challenges the dancers to use motion to

interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music.

Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. Lyrical dancing is a combination of intricate, highly

technical, and pedestrian/naturalistic moves. Lyrical dance is often choreographed to a song about freedom, of

releasing a sad emotion, or of overcoming obstacles, but can be choreographed to any human emotion-related song.

Contemporary Dance: is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including

modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through

fluid dance movements. Very much like Lyrical but uses more modern dance techniques and dance evolution of the

present day.

Page 19: East Coast Performing Arts Packet 8_5_2017.pdfEast Coast Performing Arts will be moving locations after ... Choreographer of Grit & Grace Community Theatre ... versatile dancer and

Tumbling and Acrobatics: involves movements that are a combination of difficult feats of balance, agility,

strength and coordination. These tricks and skills are all done on the floor using gymnastic mats. This gives the

child the opportunity and advantage to learn their actual strength rather than a sprung gymnasium floor. They will

be able to develop and complete the skill for any purpose in dance, cheer, gymnastics or audition material for middle

school, high school or college. (All of our dance floors at ECPA are raised to reduce injury and protect prolonged

movement of the body and tendons of our students).

Silk Aerial and Lyra(Hoop): The aerial hoop (also known as the lyra, aerial ring or cerceau/cerceaux) is a circular

steel apparatus (resembling a hula hoop) suspended from the ceiling, on which circus artists may

perform aerial acrobatics. It can be used static, spinning, or swinging. The silks are soft fabric used for strength,

coordination and flexibility in the air with fabric. These classes use an intense amount of upper body and core

strength. This class is very fun and exciting for ages 7 and older only. (Often used for contortion movement and

rhythmic acrobatics).

Private Lessons: If your child is struggling in class or would like special individual attention to master a

specific skill or trick this is a great way for them to reach their goals at a faster pace. You are welcome to

sign up your child for a private lesson with one of our instructors at any time. You MUST do so through our

front desk staff and they will email you information regarding dates and times that the studio and when the

teachers are available. This may take a moment to get started and to be sure schedules are not conflicting.

Private Lessons: Payments for private lessons are paid directly to the instructor with cash or check.

30minutes: $25

1 Hour: $60

These lessons can have up to 4 people at a time in them. The 5th

child is an additional $10 and so on…

Broadway Baby Program: This is one of our top programs at ECPA! For ages 3 to 5, we combine

different subject of dance to help the child find their passion for the arts. The children love creative

movement, funky moves, tumble & tricks, love and emotion. We take pride in developing a strong little

performer with education in dance terminology, athleticism in their craft by learning to stretch, count and hear

music, coordination with simple movements and moments of play. They learn about Respect, Discipline

through structure of class and repetition, Honesty and Trust. They are the next generation of our hearts and

we do the best we can to nurture their love for movement and creativity.

Mommy & Me Class: This is a NEW class we are adding Fall 2017. This class is for ages 12mths to 2

years. The children and mommy’s learn how to stretch and coordinate the body and eyes to move together.

We have fun with our imaginations and storytelling through the art dance. Children play while listening to

music and using small props for creative art. Both parents and children gain sweet new friends and a place to

call their dance home. Student’s practice counting, turning, and tumbling and they will enjoy every

moment!

Infant Classes: For ages 0 to 11months. This is a class that new mommies can meet others and share

their love of the arts with their brand new baby! The babies play with waves of color, small objects and

toys with illustrations and storytelling. Calm music to playful music to help encourage tummy to back rolling

over, back to tummy rolling over, hand coordination, eye coordination, and the simple beginning steps of life.
