This places your customers’ business at risk for unplanned expenses and lost time. It’s important to educate your customers with the latest statistics to raise awareness of the growing threat to business of all forms of crime: In 2018, 55% of Canadian companies experienced economic crime in the previous 24 months, compared to 37% in 2016. This includes consumer fraud, which was the third most reported economic crime at 36% 1 . The total value of fraud reported by Canadian businesses in 2017 was $30.4 million, an increase of 78% from the previous year 2 . The theft of goods and cash by employees is costing Canadian businesses $1.4 billion a year 3 . According to Statistics Canada, in 2017 more than one-fifth of Canadian businesses reported a cybersecurity incident that impacted their operations. Attacks targeting individuals are increasing, with 85% of organizations globally experiencing social engineering attacks in 2019 4 . Provide examples Your customers can be impacted by crime in wide- ranging scenarios. Here are some examples of situations that are covered by our enhanced coverage: Employee Dishonesty Your customer owns a janitorial business and their employee steals money and a laptop computer while cleaning at a client’s premises. Theft, Robbery or Burglary During a robbery at your customer’s business, money is stolen from the cash register and the robbers also destroy display cabinets. Forgery or Alteration Your customer’s credit card is stolen and the thief forges your customer’s signature on the receipt in order to purchase items. Computer Fraud An outsider hacks into your customer’s computer system and falsifies orders and misappropriates merchandise. Funds Transfer Fraud A fraudster uses your customer’s banking credentials to masquerade as them and direct your customer’s bank to transfer money into the fraudster’s account. Medical Expenses An employee or partner of your customer is injured during an attempted robbery and as a result incurs medical expenses for one year. Social Engineering Fraud (purchased separately by endorsement) A hacker uses your customer’s email account to pretend to be them and then sends an email to another employee instructing them to deliver money to a client’s account. The limits for all coverages are now offered per occurrence rather than as an aggregate limit, meaning your customers are no longer subject to limits on the number of claims covered during their policy period.
