that promotes successful, well-rounded life long learners.
Dear Parents: We look forward to working with you during this school year. We encourage you to review your child’s work on a daily basis and to communicate with your child’s teacher using grade level progress reports and daily communication folders. Your child’s academic success is our number one priority. This can be accomplished through mutual partnership and respect. Please make arrangements by sending a note to the classroom teacher if your child will be picked up early for a doctor
or dentist appointment. Students will not be called out of class until parents arrive on campus. Students will not be pulled from class after 3:00 p.m. If you need to remove your child from school, please request to do so prior to 3:00 p.m.
Please ensure that all adults (18 years or older) that are authorized to pick your child up from school are listed in your Infinite Campus account. Your child will not be released to any individual that is not listed and they must present picture identification.
Please make arrangements with your child and inform your child’s teacher as to the location where they will be picked up after school. Please provide this information to all adults who you have made arrangements with regarding your child’s pickup from school. Parents are strongly encouraged to enter the school grounds from Constantinople.
City of Las Vegas provides “SAFEKEY” before school and after school care for students enrolled in the program. There is a minimum fee for this program. Enroll your child as an alternative in case you are unable to pick your child up promptly at dismissal time. Please be informed that the office hours of Conners Elementary School are 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
We would like to thank the parents of the Conners Elementary community for your support and understanding as we work to provide your child with the education she/he deserves. Sincerely, Ms. Patricia Blomstrom, Principal Mrs. Jennifer Gerber, Assistant Principal Faculty and Staff
Please schedule parent conferences as needed before school or after school so that instructional time is not interrupted. Teachers are not able to conference with parents when escorting children into the building or during dismissal duty.
Please send your child’s lunch or lunch money with him/her. Classroom instruction will not be interrupted to deliver lunches, forgotten homework or messages.
Please make sure your child knows where they are going and who is going to pick them up after school. We do not deliver telephone messages to students unless a parent comes into the school office and presents proper identification.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS REGARDING
STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND TRUANCY
School attendance is vital to your child’s academic success in school. The laws about school truancy are intended to reduce the high rate of habitual truants in schools.
STUDENT SAFETY STATEMENT
The safety of our students is important to us! It is important to educate, counsel, and provide information to our students regarding student safety. Please be advised that pocket knives, BB guns, sharp instruments, fireworks and handguns are not to be brought to school for any reason. Possession of such items will result in disciplinary action and/or expulsion. Your cooperation and participation in supporting school safety is vital. Parents can help us by checking the backpacks of their children on a daily basis to ensure that inappropriate items are not brought to school. Please remind your child that many dangerous items that may be used during family camping trips, or hunting activities under parent supervision, are considered weapons and are not to be brought to school for any reason. Thank you for your cooperation and support. Together we can maintain the high education and safety standards we expect at our schools.
The principal of the school is required to report the pupils that are habitually truant to law enforcement.
A habitual truant is defined as a “student who has three unapproved or unexcused absences within one school year.”
A truant is a pupil who is absent from school without the approval of the teacher or principal of the school unless the pupil is physically or mentally unable to attend school.
If a pupil is absent due to physical or mental reasons, the parent must notify the school within three days of the absence.
Provides the court authority to order the student or parent to pay a fine of $100.00 or more for habitual truancy. The court can order the suspension of driver license privileges of a student 14 years of age or older for habitual truancy.

ATTENDANCE School attendance is compulsory for all children between the ages of seven and seventeen in the state of Nevada (NRS 392.040). It is the parent’s responsibility to see that regular attendance is monitored.
CCSD Regulation 5113 pertains to student attendance and states that a written explanation must accompany students no later than 3 days after the date a student returns to school. Notes cannot be accepted after the third day and the absence will remain unexcused. Phone calls made to the school to report your child absent does not excuse your child’s absence. Additionally, absences shall only be approved when:
The student is physically or mentally unable to attend school, or the absence is related to the student’s disability and the course work has been completed.
The approval of the teacher, principal, or designee has been given for an unavoidable absence due to an emergency.
The student is absent due to a required court appearance or religious holiday.
The absence has been arranged pursuant to the request of a parent of legal guardian prior to the absence and does not exceed the allowable ten (10) arranged days per school year.
A student is to be marked tardy who is not physically present in the classroom prior to 9:10 AM.
BIKE RIDING
A bicycle parking area is located on the Intermediate playground. Each student MUST have an individual bicycle lock to secure their bicycles each day. Bicycles are not allowed to be chained together. The school district will not assume responsibility for any loss or damages to the bicycles. Theft of a bicycle is probable unless it is locked. No scooters or skateboards should be ridden to school due to the inability to secure them in the bike rack. For the safety of all students, bicycles MUST BE WALKED ON CAMPUS.
CAFETERIA
The cafeteria serves a balanced lunch. Breakfast is $1.25, lunch is $2.00 and milk is 25¢. The menu will be sent home on a monthly basis. Children may bring a lunch and buy their milk. The Food Service Department maintains a procedure for charging lunches when children forget or lose their lunch money. The charge must be paid the following day. An FS-60 (charge slip) is sent home with your child. Charges can be arranged in advance by calling the Cafeteria Supervisor at 7 9 9 - 1 4 0 2 e x t . 4 0 1 2 o r v i s i t i n g www.schoolpaymentsolutions.com. Lunches and breakfasts can be prepaid in advance. Applications for federally funded and reduced-priced lunches will be sent home in the back to school packet and are also available upon request in the cafeteria office.
CLOSED CAMPUS
Conners Elementary School campus is closed from 9:00 AM - 3:35 PM. Public access to the playground and the rear of the school is not allowed during these hours. Visitors to the school must report to the office. The gates are opened on the Constantinople and the Shadow Peak sides of the school for student pickup.
HOMEWORK
Students will have homework Monday through Thursday. No homework will be assigned on Friday or on a day prior to a holiday. Homework will provide reinforcement of those skills taught at school. Student assignments are to be completed neatly and returned in a timely manner. Each classroom teacher will communicate with parents and students about specific homework expectations.

“Homework Hotline” provides assistance to students who need help with their homework, especially in math and language arts. Questions will be answered over the telephone, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30 PM (702) 799-5111.
LOST AND FOUND
Please label your child’s possessions. In this way, lost items can easily be identified and retuned to the proper child. The school has a lost and found area located near the rear entrance of the Multipurpose Room. The office also has a lost and found for smaller items such as wallets, watches, glasses, keys, etc. Please have your child check both places for items they have misplaced.
STUDENT
BIRTHDAYS
Students may bring, or parents may drop off first thing in the morning, a commercially made and individually wrapped treat to share with his/her class to celebrate their birthday. We ask that parents send a note prior to sending any treats and be sure not to send any items containing peanuts as we have many students with allergies that could become life threatening. Please DO NOT bring balloons, flowers, stuffed animals etc. This causes a disruption in the classroom and teacher instruction, and WILL NOT be delivered to the classroom. Only parents who have been noted on a teacher’s calendar for that day will be permitted down to the classroom. NO EXCEPTIONS. Students will not be pulled from other classrooms to participate in the birthday treat of a sibling. In addition, any birthday party invitations may not be handed out in class during the instructional day.
...and more IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
PERSONAL POSSESSIONS
DO NOT allow students to bring nuisance items (toys) to school which are not a part of the educational program or unless specifically requested by the teacher. Keep chewing gum, candy, radios, CD players, toys, hand-held games, skateboards, scooters, roller blades, soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, Frisbees, baseball bats, baseballs, and all other miscellaneous sports equipment at home!
RESPECT AND CARE
OF SCHOOL PROPERTY
This responsibility includes the school building, furnishings, books and materials among other things. Students may be charged for the damage of any school property and be subject to disciplinary action.
SCHOOL PARTIES
School parties for grades K-5 may be held to recognize special identified events or certain holidays. Your child may be asked to furnish such items as snacks, paper goods or drinks. Details of any special events will be supplied to parents by the classroom teachers at various times throughout the year. Parties will be held during the last hour of the school day.
MEDICATIONS If students are required to take medications at school, parents must obtain and sign a current CCF-643, medication release, form from the health office. All medications, including over-the-counter remedies, must have a doctor’s prescription and be stored in a properly labeled container. Students are not permitted to carry medications with them, this includes over-the-counter cough drops. All medications are kept in a locked cabinet and are dispensed from the nurse’s office according to the directions prescribed by your
physician.

ENROLLMENT AND WITHDRAWAL
Students must be enrolled through the school office before they will be allowed to attend classes. If they are enrolling from another Clark County School, a transfer form and proof of your current address are required to enroll your child. Parents of kindergarten children and students new to the district must present a birth certificate from the state in which the child was born, immunization records, the parent’s driver’s license, and proof of address at the time of registration. When you are planning to withdraw a student, the office must have at least 24 hours prior notice in order to prepare the necessary documents.
SCHOOL INFORMATION
It is very important to keep your child’s information current. Please come into the school office with your photo ID to inform the school of any changes in address, telephone numbers, at home and at work. This is essential in case of an illness or emergency. Pursuant to FERPA laws, this information CAN NOT be changed over the telephone.
STUDENT RELEASE
DURING THE DAY If your child must be released during the school day for a dentist or doctor appointment, etc., we ask that you notify your child’s classroom teacher via email or a note. Upon your arrival, your child’s teacher will be notified that the student is leaving and one of the office staff will bring your child to the office. Students will not be released from class between 3:00 - 3:21 PM. If you need to remove your child prior to the end of the school day, please make arrangements to do so prior to 3:00 PM.
Parents/Guardians are required, by district policy, to be listed on the CCF-703 enrollment card and to sign the student out of school through the front office. Children are never released on their own for any reason during the school day. Students must be picked up from school by a parent or a parent’s designee (age 18 or older). Please have proper personal identification with you at the time you sign out the student as they will not be released without presentation of a state/government issued ID. Teachers are NOT ALLOWED to release students directly to parents without officially going through the front office.
VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS
Parents who have an opportunity to visit our campus during instructional time are welcome. Please be sure to make prior arrangements with your child’s teacher as to keep unexpected disruptions to the classroom to a minimum. All visitors to the school must report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Photo ID MUST be presented in order to sign in.
Parents are required to schedule their volunteered time with the classroom teacher. Volunteers may assist in the classroom, lunchroom and on the playground. They can listen to children read, check papers, help in the library, help supervise the lunchroom, and be on the playground at lunchtime or before and after school. If you have time to help at school for 30 minutes a day or more, we would appreciate it. This service greatly benefits our children. No siblings are to accompany parents when volunteering.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS OF IMPORTANCE
TELEPHONES The office telephones are for school business only. Students need special permission from their teachers to use the telephone for emergencies. Emergencies will not include forgotten items including homework, lunch-es or special projects. Students will not be called from their classrooms to take a telephone call at any time. For the safety of our students, messages will not be delivered to any child unless the parent or guardian comes into the office and presents proper identification. CCSD Policy 5136 provides that students are permitted to bring personal cell phones to school. The policy states that during the instructional day, students may only use these devises with the approval of the principal (or designee).

STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND EXPECTATIONS
The student behavior expectations at Eileen Connors Elementary School are based on mutual respect, dignity, communication, shared responsibility, consistency, positive reinforcement, and appropriate consequences. School should be a safe, secure, home-like environment where violence is never accepted. We feel that students are responsible for their own behavior and that they are partners with parents and school staff.
1. Come to school on time and be prepared to learn.
2. Pay attention and follow directions.
3. Move through halls silently with arms by your side.
4. Keep hands, feet, and unkind words to yourself.
5. Keep your school clean.
High Five Signal: All students will learn and practice the school wide procedures of “high five” and “Voice Levels”.
High Five (used to get attention)
Eyes on speaker. Lips/mouths closed.
Ears listening. Sit up straight.
Hands and feet quiet.
Voice Levels: Level 0 – No voice
Level 1 – Whisper voice Level 2 – Small group voice
Level 3 – In front of class Level 4 – Outside on playground
Bullying
CCSD Policy 5137 (Safe and Respectful Learning Environment: Bullying and Cyberbullying) addressed bullying. The Clark County School District is committed to providing a safe, secure, and respectful learning environment for all students and employees…. Bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, and intimidation have a harmful social, physical, psychological, and academic impact on victims, bystanders, and even the bullies themselves. The school district strives to consistently and vigorously address bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, and intimidation so that there is no disruption to the learning environment and learning process.

In coordination with the school counselor, the Conners staff promotes teaching and helping the students
use effective methods of solving their own problems. Kelso's Choices gives the students options that
help them manage their daily problems. This conflict-management curriculum is based on the premise
that every child is capable of becoming a peacemaker. Designed around Kelso the Frog, this program
offers nine options students can choose from to resolve conflicts (small problems). Our school counselor
visits each classroom to conduct lessons with students on how to solve small problems and helps the

ALL ABOUT EILEEN CONNERS
Eileen Conners was a Clark County School District educator for thirty three years. Mrs. Conners was born in Veteran, Wyoming in 1924. She moved to Boulder City in 1931 at the age of seven years old, when her father moved the family to work on the construction of Hoover Dam. The family traveled from Wyoming to Boulder City in a Model T Ford. A young Eileen attended school in Las Vegas and had to ride a bus to Las Vegas. At the time, Railroad Pass
did not exist and it was quite a trip indeed.
After graduation from Las Vegas High School at the age of fourteen, Mrs. Conners attended the University of Nevada, Reno and returned to Southern Nevada to begin her teaching career. Mrs. Conners was hired into the Clark County School District by Principal Elbert Edwards. Her first teaching assignment was in Henderson, but after one year she accepted a teaching position in Boulder City. She then transferred to Boulder City and taught in the basement of Grace
Church.
She met a young soldier named Bob Conners who was stationed in Camp Williston in Boulder City. They were married in 1943. They remained in Boulder City where they were very active in political and social affairs. The Conners
raised three sons: Dennis, Bill and Tom.
Mrs. Conners was a dedicated teacher for thirty three years. She taught various grade levels at Andrew Mitchell Elementary School. Many referred to her as the most influential teacher they ever had during their school years. She taught with great enthusiasm and her thirst for knowledge was contagious. Her foundation for teaching was honesty,
honor and respect for others. This foundation for teaching was adopted as our school’s motto.
While working countless hours teaching, pursuing her master’s degree and raising three sons, she still felt it her duty to serve her community. She was the founding member of Beta Sigma Phi, which is a service sorority. During the thirty years she was a member, she spearheaded many projects. She served as counselor to another chapter of the sorority which has a scholarship in her name that is awarded yearly to a Boulder City female. She was quite an amateur
archeologist and spent many happy hours scouting the desert for sites of early man.
Her contributions in the educational community were many. She served on a committee tasked to design a new type of school. The result is the pod-type school found throughout the district today. Mrs. Conners served on several
curriculum committees as well.
In 1980, Eileen retired from teaching but remained active in the community. She passed away in 1994. Eileen Conners lived a life of sharing knowledge and a love for learning with countless children. She shared with them her love
of southern Nevada history and culture, and a love for her community.
