About Hipp-Provisation

Discover the craft and fun of improvisational theatre with the Hippodrome's new Hipp-Provisation class! This improv class, taught by Matthew Lindsay, will be structured to build on skills such as scene development, the three rules of improv, character development, active listening, and idea reincorporation. Short form improv games will be taught to highlight these skill sets. The class is intended to be accessible by all skill levels.

There will be a total of six sessions that will meet on Mondays from October 27 to December 8*, 2014. Each class will run from 6:15pm to 7:30pm at the Hippodrome Theatre. *12/8 is an optional end of term celebration.

About Matthew LindsayMatthew Lindsay graduated from the University of Florida in 2012 with an MFA in acting. He taught improv for three years at UF and worked with UF's nationally recognized improvisation troupe, Theatre Strike Force. Matt is a member of Actors' Equity and has appeared on the Hippodrome stage in several productions.

Beginning DrawingDon’t be afraid to try drawing. It is a skill that anyone can learn if you have the desire and discipline. Basic techniques will teach you “how to see”. Topics covered include line, shape, texture, shading, and more. Advanced students may work independently with their own subjects and goals. Guidance and critique will be provided at each class.

About the Instructor —As soon as Linda Bair could hold a crayon, she was doodling and drawing, which eventually led to a degree in Art History and Studio Arts (painting) from the University of Florida. She has taught overseas and gained much experience and influence from many people and places. Upon returning to the states, she taught middle school for many years and recently decided to teach Community Education. About the Instructor —Joe Moseley is a certified STEM instructor in engineering and technology that utilizes robotics to teach math and science concepts to elementary through high school students. In 2006, he started his first Lego Robotics League. Since then he has coached over 25 robotics teams with Cornerstone School; judged and directed competitions including Robopalooza and RoboFest; and integrated robotics into his everyday classroom curriculum. His experience includes three years with Project Lead the Way, directing several STEM summer camps, and administering the nationally recognized STEM club, Girls Who Code. In 2012 Joe earned Marion County’s STEM Teacher of the Year award. Most recently, Joe led the first ever LEGO Robotics course for SF College for Kids.

Community Education classes for seniors 60 years and older may have their registration fees waived for some classes if: 1) they register the first night of class - students who register before the class begins or register online will pay full price for the course; no refunds, no exceptions; 2) space is available in the class, and 3) the class has met the required minimum seats filled. The student must pay all lab fees or additional fees. Please check space availability by calling (352) 395-5193 the day before 1st class. Some classes do not allow senior waivers.

You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund. See website for refund policies. You will receive a refund check in the mail in approximately 3—4 weeks. Your credit card account will NOT be credited for the amount.

Community Education reserves the right to cancel classes based on low enrollment or other causes. The student will be notified in advance, and a full refund will be provided.
