Overview

To use ETU iPad configuration of pre-installed apps and settings, you don’t need a computer. The included USB cable and adapter can be used to charge the battery.

Connecting to Wireless

ETU iPads connect to the internet using WiFi only; they do not have 3G capabilities. To use internet services, you must be connected to a wireless network.

Open Settings from main screen, be sure Wi-Fi is switched to the ON position.

If you choose a secure network such as the UCLA wireless, you may need to log in using Safari before you can use internet services. If you are in range of the GSE&IS Wi-Fi, you will see the WiFi login screen when you launch Safari. If

you are on campus, use your Single Sign-on to log in.

Using Apps

ETU has purchased three Apps for use on the iPad: each App has a built-in intro when you first launch. Reading these is essential.

DocsToGo- allows you to view, edit, create, Microsoft word and excel files. Sync with Google Docs, Dropbox, iDisk, & SugarSyncfor support see: http://support.dataviz.com/nf/resources_search.html

iAnnotate PDF- allows you to read, edit, and annotate PDFs. For support see: http://aji.kayako.com/. The built-in “Getting Started” and “User Guide” are excellent resources that can be opened in the app and be referenced as you go.

Keynote - create and present keynote slidesTo get started: after launching the app, slide the screen to the left to display the “Tap To Get Started with Keynote” window. For support see: http://www.apple.com/ipad/from-the-app-store/

Setting Up Email

If you have a Mobile Me, Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL email account, open the Mail app from the toolbar at the bottom of the home screen, choose the appropriate option and follow the instructions.

To use your GSE&IS email account, choose "Other" then enter the settings as pictured below.

Optional Settings

Several settings can be adjusted to your preference; this window will open when you touch the "Settings" icon on the main screen.

Signing into the Apple Store

When you borrow the iPad, it is set to the ETU Apple ID. You will need to sign in with your own Apple ID. Choose “Settings” from the home screen. Press the "Apple ID: [email protected]" icon on the right, then choose "Sign Out"

Press the "Sign In" button to enter your own Apple IDEnter your Apple ID and password. Remember your Apple ID is the full email address.

 After you have signed in, return to the main screen, and choose the "App Store." You can browse, search, and download applications. You will be prompted to verify your Apple ID account information, even if you are downloading free apps.

WARNING: ALL applications you download will be permanently erased when you return the iPad to ETU.

Before You Return the iPad

Before you return the iPad to ETU, be sure to remove any documents, PDFs, or media that you have created, downloaded, or edited during use.

If you have downloaded any media or apps:Any apps that you have downloaded will be wiped when you return the iPad.

If you have used Docs to Go:Email to yourself any documents that have been created or changed. You will need to set up an email account on the iPad to do so, if you haven’t already.

If you have used iAnnotateEmail to yourself any documents that have been changed. See Section 7 of the in-app user manual: “Sharing your Annotated Documents”

If you have created a presentation with KeynoteTap the “My Presentations” button in the toolbar to view all your presentations. Select Email Presentation. If you have an iWork.com or iDisk, you can save the file there.
