Bucharest – Transylvania - BucharestToday we enjoy a day tour to Transylvania. After a three hour drive we reach ourfirst stop, Bran Castle, which is commonly known as ‘Dracula’s Castle’. Next wehave some free time for lunch at our own expense, before heading to SnagovIsland. Here, we will have the opportunity to visit the Snagov Monastery, which isrumoured to hold the remains of ‘Vlad the Impaler’, which inspired Bram Stoker’s‘Dracula’. The monastery is also located on a small island that is connected to themainland by a walking bridge. Bucharest - TulceaAfter a leisurely breakfast today, we will have some time to relax before wecommence our late morning 5½ hour drive to the Tulcea cruise port to board theMS Gerard Schmitter. Boarding commences from 6pm. The MS Gerard Schmitterwas built in 2012. The three deck vessel is 110 metres long and can carry 174passengers. The ship’s facilities include a dining room, lounge bar with dancefloor, sundeck with WiFi onboard. Tulcea – The Danube Delta - Oltenita, RomaniaThis morning we have an included tour of the Danube Delta. We’ll begin with a500 metre walk and then board a tourist pleasure boat to begin our visit ofthe Danube Delta. We’ll board small local boats with a capacity of 50 passengers todiscover the flora and fauna of this biosphere in the company of our guides. The

site is one of 300 international biosphere reserves designated by UNESCO to try tomeasure the impact of Man on the environment. The human presence on the Northand South banks of the delta has been in evidence since Neolithic times, when thedelta was still only a gulf in the Black Sea. The Danube Delta is home to more than1200 different varieties of plants, 300 species of birds and 45 different freshwaterfish varieties in its many lakes and marshes. During our visit, we may be luckyenough to catch a glimpse of some white pelicans, dwarf cormorants, glossy ibis orother species. We’ll return to our ship on foot and then cruise to Oltenita inRomania, with our ship cruising through the night.Accommodation: Onboard

Oltenita – Giurgiu – Excursion to Bucharest – Ruse, BulgariaToday we enjoy a guided tour of Bucharest, which offers a striking combination ofarchitectural styles including orthodox churches, Empire-style manor houses andCommunist-inspired architecture. According to legend, the city was founded by ashepherd called Bucur, which means ‘joy' in Romanian. Bucharest has sufferedgreatly from its communist past, but has somewhat modernised since the year2000, due to significant economic growth.We’ll start our visit with a panoramic tour of the city giving an overview of thevarious monuments of the capital. We’ll then head to a restaurant for a typicalRomanian lunch with traditional music and folklore dancing to entertain us. Afterlunch, we’ll visit Bucharest's Eco-museum, a genuine village in the city wherewe’ll learn about the habitats of the different regions of Romania and theirhandicrafts. We’ll conclude our visit with a photo stop at the Palace ofParliament, a gigantic neo-classical style marble construction designed byCeausescu, before visiting the Orthodox Church.Afterwards we return to our ship and cruise to Ruse, one of the biggest ports inBulgaria. RuseThis morning we enjoy a tour of the city of Ruse, with its impressive broadavenues, large squares and wonderful buildings which pay tribute to thearchitecture of the national Renaissance. Ruse was founded by the Romans underthe orders of Emperor Augustus. In the company of our guide, we’ll discover thefascinating architectural heritage of the town, which is a rich mixture of Bulgarianand Romanian cultures. We pass by the Dohodno Zdanie (Old Theatre), theMonument of Liberty and the Catholic Church with its multi-coloured stained-glasswindows. We’ll end our visit with a tasting of a local pastry and wine and thenhave some free time to go shopping before our coach takes us back to the ship.This afternoon we cruise through two countries, with Romania on the left bank andBulgaria on the right bank. The Iron GatesThe day will be spent cruising on the Danube, sailing through Romania, Bulgariaand Serbia. Our ship will pass through the Iron Gates, the gorge on the Danubebetween the Carpathians and the Balkans. On the Serbian bank of the river, we’llcatch a glimpse of the Tabula Traiana, a marble plaque honouring the Roman Roadthat once linked Rome to the province of Dacia.

Belgrade – Novi Sad, SerbiaThis morning we arrive in Belgrade, and have a guided tour of the Serbian capital.Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with a history stretching back some7,000 years. The city is located at the confluence of the Sava and the Danuberivers, close to the Morava Corridor, which links the countries of the Danube to theAegean Sea. We begin our visit with a panoramic city tour, during which we willhave the opportunity to see Belgrade’s National Theatre and National Museum, theRoyal Palace, which currently houses the City Assembly of Belgrade, the AncientRoyal Palace and more. We’ll stop to visit the Orthodox Temple of St Sava. Theconstruction of this church began in 1939, and is still a work in progress followingthe Second World War and Tito’s dictatorship. We have some free time in the citycentre, before transferring to Kalemegdan Park, the largest and most beautiful parkin the city.This afternoon we set off by coach to visit the town of Novi Sad, capital of theautonomous region of Vojvodina and the second largest town in Serbia. The townhas a long and troubled history, being under the rule of the Celts, Romans, Franks,Barbarians and Turks until it became part of the Habsburg Empire. The history ofthe town was further troubled during the 20th century when after the First WorldWar, the Balkan territories were in turn united and separated under different names,until in 2006 when the town finally became part of an independent Serbia.We’ll visit the city centre on foot and the Austro-Hungarian old town, with itsbaroque buildings which were established around the ancient fortifications. We’llget the chance to visit the Episcopal Church as well as an orthodox church beforewe continue up the main street to Freedom Square where we’ll find the townhall, dating from 1895. The coach will be waiting for us near Freedom Square tofinish the visit with a panoramic tour up the main boulevards.We will continue by coach to the little village of Sremski Karlovci where we’llvisit the Cathedral of St Nicholas, built in typical baroque style in 1758, and thefirst ever secondary school of Serbia dating from the end of the 18th century whichhas a library housing around 18,000 books. We’ll take time to admire the FourLions Fountain, built in 1799 to celebrate the town's first ever waterworks.Afterwards we return to our ship in Novi Sad and start cruising in the direction ofthe Mohacs.Accommodation: Onboard

Bezdan, Serbia – Mohacs – Kalocsa, HungaryToday we arrive in Mohacs. In the afternoon we have an included excursion to thePuszta, also known as the Great Plain of Hungary. We depart by coach in thecompany of our host in the direction of Kiskunsag Park, at the heart of the Puszta.The Puszta is a large, flat grassland that was regarded as the ‘Wild West ofHungary’ in the 19th century with cowboys watching over colossal cattle herdsgrazing on pasture. The Puszta has been listed as a World Heritage Site byUNESCO since 1999. Riding aboard a charabanc (traditional horse-drawn carriagewith wooden benches) we’ll be amazed by the wonderful landscapes and unusualfauna of the Puszta. In a small part of the Hungarian Steppe, we’ll get a chance toobserve Racka sheep with their spiral-shaped horns, Mangalica pigs with theircurly coats and Hungarian Grey cattle with their long, curved horns, as well as rarespecies of birds. In the course of our visit, we’ll also get the chance to attend atraditional equestrian show while tasting "palinka" and some "pogacsa" (small

savoury buns) as well as mineral water, sheltered from the sun under a thatchedroof. The csikós, the mounted horse-herdsmen of Hungary dressed in traditionalblue attire, will invite us to take part in their games of skill and ability. Afterwardswe return by coach to our ship in Kalocsa and then cruise through the night toBudapest. This evening we enjoy a Hungarian feast.Accommodation: Onboard

Budapest, HungaryThis morning we have an included panoramic tour of Budapest, the Pearl of theDanube. First we will head for the hills of Buda by crossing the ElizabethBridge and we will go up to the Castle Quarter, from where we’ll enjoy a fantasticpanoramic view of the city. We will walk round the Castle Quarter and on tothe Fisherman's Bastion, built in neo-Roman style in 1902. Behind the Bastion, wewill find Matthias Church, the oldest church in the city founded in 1015 by SaintStephen, which notably was the venue for the coronation of Emperor Franz Josephand his wife "Sissi". Our coach will take us down to the plains of Pest. There, wewill visit Heroes' Square whose central monument depicting Prince Arpad and thechieftains of seven Magyar tribes was built for the millennium of Hungary. We willpass by the famous Szechenyi thermal baths, the zoo, Vajdahunyad Castle andmore. We will walk through the famous Andrassy Avenue and pass by St.Stephen's Basilica whose construction began in 1851 and was not completed until1905. We will walk along the river and see the famous Parliament buildingoverlooking the Danube with its white silhouette in the Byzantine and neo-Gothicstyles. Afterwards we return to the ship, with the remainder of the afternoon atleisure. Our ship sails to Bratislava, cruising through the night.Accommodation: Onboard

Bratislava, SlovakiaThis morning we arrive in Bratislava, Slovakia. Before becoming the capital ofindependent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was the capital of Hungary from 1536 to1784 under its former name Presburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia beforebecoming the capital of the Slovak Socialist Republic as part of Czechoslovakiabetween 1969 and 1992.In the afternoon we will commence a panoramic tour of the city, which will take usto Bratislava Castle (outside visit), which dates from 1811, after the previous castleburned down. From here we will enjoy a breathtaking view over the Danube andthe city below. The main historical monuments are located in the Old Town and thecoach will drop us off at the entrance to the Old Town to continue our visit on foot.We will enter the city through Michael's Gate, which is the only gate still survivingfrom the Middle-Ages. Then we will head for the central square, surrounded byelegant buildings and dominated by the old Bratislava Town Hall. The tourcontinues with the Primate's Palace completed in 1781 for Archbishop JozefBathyány.As we stroll through the streets, we may come across some of the amusing statuesthat are dotted around the capital. After the tour there is some free time beforereturning to the ship on foot. Later we set sail for Vienna.Accommodation: Onboard

Vienna, AustriaIn the morning we will commence our included tour of Vienna by taking the

famous Ring to reach Schoenbrunn Palace. The "Ring" was one of the personalprojects of Emperor Franz Joseph. In 1857, he decided to take down the rampartsthat enclosed the city centre and had this boulevard built lined with fine buildings.Along the Ring we can admire this architectural showcase of the old Austro-Hungarian monarchy, including the State Opera, the Hofburg Palace, the NaturalHistory Museum, the City Hall, the Burgtheater and more.When we arrive at Schoenbrunn Palace, we will be guided through the numerousrooms of the Hapsburgs' summer residence, which bear witness to the splendour ofthe court at the time of Maria Theresa. We will also have some time to wanderthrough the palace gardens.Afterwards we are transferred to the city centre to enjoy some free time in the areaaround St Stephen's Cathedral. We will then return to the coach and transfer backto the ship via the Ring.This evening we are transferred to Vienna’s Kursalon for an evening concert.Famous waltz melodies will take us back to the era of Franz Joseph and Sisi. Thefirst half of the concert will be devoted to Mozart compositions, and the secondhalf to Strauss. The orchestra consists of eight to thirteen musicians, two singersand two dancers. During intermission, a free drink will be served (orange juice orsparkling Austrian wine). Later we return to the ship, which will sail to Melkduring the night.Accommodation: Onboard

Melk, ViennaToday we enjoy an included tour of Melk Abbey. Originally a Baroque-style palacebuilt between 1702 and 1736, it is now a Benedictine monastery that hosts aprestigious co-ed school with more than 900 students. We will visit themarble hall, the world famous library and the bedchambers where a number ofillustrious visitors have slept. Afterwards we return by coach to our ship and departfor Linz. This evening we enjoy a festive gala evening as our ship sails through thenight.Accommodation: Onboard

MunichToday we enjoy an included excursion to Neuschwanstein Castle. We have a twohour drive from our hotel to southwest Bavaria to visit this 19th century castle,which is situated on a rugged hilltop and provides an excellent view of theBavarian Mountains. The castle was intended as a home for King Lugwig II ofBavaria, until he died in 1886. It opened to the public shortly after his death. Sincethen more than 61 million people have visited the castle, with about 1.3 millionvisitors annually. The castle appeared prominently in several movies, such asChitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Great Escape. The castle also served as the

inspiration for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. After our visitto the castle we will have some free time before heading back to Munich.Please note the walk to the castle consists of a steep incline of approximately 20minutes in length. For those who wish there are also shuttles or horse-drawncarriages available, however these are not included in the tour and cannot bebooked in advance.This evening we have an included farewell dinner at our hotel.Accommodation: Eurostars Book Hotel or similar

Breakfast is a self-serve buffet in the onboard restaurant, which may include pastries, coffee, tea,juice, breads, jams, a variety of sausages and cold cuts, eggs, fresh fruit and yoghurt.Lunch and dinner will be 3 course sit down meals prepared by the onboard chefs and served at settimes and in a single seating for all passengers. The meals often include local specialities, madefrom fresh ingredients. Both lunch and dinner meals are paired with excellent complimentary wines.Free beverages are provided with every meal, including mineral water, fruit juice, tea, coffee, housewine and beer. Champagne, premium wines and spirits are available at an additional charge.

The cabins on the cruise have individual controls for air conditioning and heat, so you can adjustyour room to meet your needs. Each cabin is equipped with satellite television, a radio, hairdryerand safe. For your personal comfort all cabins are equipped with a shower, toilet and sink, and areprovided with towels, but not washcloths. There are no laundry or ironing facilities onboard.Entertainment on board consists of various pre-dinner games, dinner-dances and other livelyevenings in the lounge.

The primary language onboard the ship is French, however the majority of the staff and tour guidesare fluent in English. Notices and announcements are in French and English.The primary currency onboard is the Euro. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are alsoaccepted. There are no currency exchange facilities onboard.Electricity onboard is 220V. You will need to bring a standard two-pin ‘European’ adaptor for yourelectrical items.The dress code is typically smart casual attire. Walking tours of considerable distances should beexpected on tours with this rating as well as some early departures.

Your accommodation on the ship is based on main deck cabins. If you wish you can upgrade to amiddle deck cabin for an extra charge of $395 per person twin share, or an upper deck cabin for anextra charge of $460 per person twin share. All cabins are basically the same size on each deck, butthe middle and upper deck cabins have larger windows.
