ALLSEAS IN THE EVENT LOGISTICS INDUSTRY

PUSHING INNOVATIVENEW FRONTIERS

So it’s no surprise, companies working

in the sector are pushing the frontier of

technology and geography. The race to

discover and exploit new resources is on

and often in the most remote and harsh

environments. This is where we come in.

At Allseas Global Logistics, we understand

the huge, unique demands of the Oil &

Gas sector. So much so, our reputation

goes before us. Offering flexibility, rapid

response, attention to detail, innovative

thinking and a guarantee of delivery, we

have all the resources, experience and

expertise to meet the challenge head-on.

Whether it’s working to extremely tight

deadlines, moving high-value cargoes or

booking charter vessels to meet specific

contracts, we’re trusted to make it

happen. Quite simply, we can deliver

everything, from a replacement washer,

to the largest pieces of equipment

imaginable – across land, sea and air.

As populations and power consumption grow quickly in emerging markets, they continue to drive up the global demand for oil and gas.

BREAKBULK &OUT OF GAUGE

Not only unique and complex, but

challenging too. Here at Allseas we

have real strength in Event Logistics

and the track record to prove it.

Over the years, we’ve provided logistics

for tours by Coldplay, U2 and Michael

Jackson. For the Star Trek exhibition when

it was moved from the UK to Singapore

for a tour of Asia. And for the Classic Team

Lotus Formula One team.

We’re also proud to have delivered the

logistics involved in dismantling and

shipping the exhibition tents, stages,

seating and other components from

the London 2012 Olympic exhibition

halls to Dubai for the World Parachuting

Championships. A contract that added

up to more than 100 TEU.

GETTING YOUR SHOW ON THE ROAD, BY LAND, SEA OR AIRBefore the singer can take to the stage or the exhibition can open its doors, every major event depends on logistics.

MILITARY VEHICLE TO UAECARGO: Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle

DESTINATION: Idex Exhibition, Abu Dhabi, UAE

KEY FACTS:

• Shipped as hazardous cargo, going to an exhibition.

• Client based in the UK

• Shipping to Jebel Ali, UAE and from there onto Abu Dhabi

• Shipping from Felixstowe, UK

• 40’ Flat Rack for sea voyage

It was exactly a week before Christmas and Allseas were asked to urgently help to arrange the shipment of a military vehicle from the UK to an exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, which absolutely had to arrive before the end of January, and it was also to be shipped as hazardous as it contained fuel and had the battery still connected so it could be driven on/off the Flat Rack.

During the busy festive period, last minute bookings can be a regular occurrence, however with this cargo being for military use, it not only requires careful selection of carrier but also needs special approval to be shipped and all of

the required licences and permits to be submitted before it can go anywhere.

So, with just a handful of working days remaining in the calendar year and a tight shipping deadline, the cargo arrived at the port of Felixstowe UK, where it was loaded, lashed and secured onto a 40ft Flat Rack ready for ocean shipment and then covered over with a tarpaulin to ensure it complied with carrier acceptance policy through certain ocean ports during the sea passage. All of the necessary approvals were duly in place in good time and the shipment was effected as booked.

COLDPLAY CHRISTMAS CONCERTCARGO: 5 x 40 foot high cube containers

DESTINATION: Winston Salem, North Carolina

The first challenge faced was the date, 21st of December, the second being to place 5 x 40 foot high cube containers on site at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on the evening of a sell-out concert for Coldplay!

With a near impossible schedule having been agreed, obviously without due consideration being given to the Christmas and New Year periods, Allseas were tasked with moving staging and personal band equipment from Belfast to another gig in Winston Salem, North Carolina, just 3 weeks from the date of the initial enquiry.

The next task was to find a suitable sailing that would meet our requirements and get them to the destination on time. A solution was found in the form of a fast transit from Liverpool to Portsmouth New Hampshire; however this would sail on Christmas Day. Allseas subsequently arranged a small feeder from Belfast to Liverpool in order to connect with the liner vessel.

The final element of the mission was to ensure all documentation required in order to facilitate a speedy customs clearance was completed on arrival at Portsmouth.

Allseas had arranged for 5 trailers to be on standby for immediate collection, resulting in delivery to venue 24 hours before the concert.

It was a race against the clock from the off, with potential pitfalls at each critical element which could have derailed the entire process, so timing, planning and preparation were crucial in order to ensure success.

STATUE TO VERACRUZ

CASE STUDY:

CARGO: Statue of Horses Head

DESTINATION: Veracruz, Mexico

KEY FACTS:

• Still Water Bronze Sculpture

• Client based in the UK

• Shipping to Veracruz, Mexico

• Shipping from Felixstowe, UK

• 40’ Flat Rack with a 20’ and 40’ Open Top containers for sea voyage

When Allseas were asked to ship a Horses’ Head to Mexico, we initially wondered exactly what was going to be shipped! It turned out to be a sculpture by world renowned artist Nic Fiddian-Green, which is inspired by his own chestnut hunter George.

This piece, in fact a replica of the bronze Still Water sculpture that is on permanent display at London’s Marble Arch, was to be shipped as quickly as possible to Mexico where it is to become a centre piece in front of an estate house.

Valued at over USD 1.5m, this was certainly one of the more unusual projects, but very interesting to be involved in.

We promptly arranged the booking and, with careful planning with the Port of Felixstowe, ensured that the piece was received with care and precise handling that such a work requires. On arrival the team at Felixstowe delicately lifted the sculpture from the truck using slings, precisely positioned the sculpture onto the Flat Rack and securely lashed it into position for the onward sea voyage.
