REMEMBER TO USE
SCRIP: Use Scrip gift cards to pay for your
purchases or to give as gifts.
There’s a large selection of local
businesses who participate in the
Scrip program, along with many
nationwide. (There’s a national list
on our website
www.bishopryan.com) Support
these business with your shopping
& paying with gift cards and they in
turn, support Bishop Ryan & fami-
lies with the rebates earned off of
the cards. Using gift cards instead
of credit cards protects you from
credit card fraud. Scrip doesn’t cost
any extra money, you get to spend
the dollar amount you pay for. Us-
ing Scrip helps children receive a
Catholic education. Scrip gift cards
are available at Bishop Ryan, after
the weekend Masses & in the par-
ish office during the week.
As Catholics, Lent calls us into a
season of solemnity and fasting.
The Catechism of the Catholic
Church (CCC) 540 explain that “by
the solemn of forty days of Lent the
Church unites herself each year to
the mystery of Jesus in the desert.”
To aid in the solemnity of his sea-
son, St. Leo’s Choir will be singing
music more rooted in the Church’s
tradition. Beginning on Ash
Wednesday, the Entrance Antiphon
that is typically sing with the piano
before Mass begins will replace the
processional hymn as an Intriot,
and will eventually be sung in Latin
towards the end of the Lenten sea-
son. We will also be singing a Gre-
gorian Mass setting (Mass XVIII,
Deus Genitor alme) which can be
found in the Ignatius Pew Missal
starting on page 26.

Choir Director
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him be-
fore he was born and dedicated and appointed
him to his role as prophet even before he drew
breath. We, too, are known and sent by the
Lord. What deeds of love and service are mine
to perform?
Stewardship Thought: Develop your talents to
the fullest so that you can use them to benefit
your church and community. Your abilities will
grow with use; unused they may wither away.
VOCATION VIEWS: “Love never fails.” Trust the love of God and
follow your heart. (1 Corinthians 12:31-13:4-
13)

GIVING HEARTS DAY Valentine’s Day will be even
more special for hundreds of
local non-profit and charitable
groups, including many faith-
based organizations. Giving
Hearts Day is a 24-hour giving

nesota will be held this year on
Thursday, Feb. 14. The event is
sponsored by Dakota Medical
Foundation (DMF), Impact Insti-
tute, and the Alex Stern Family
Foundation. 2019 is the 12th
year for the Giving Hearts

28,000 people donated $13.1
million. More than 450 nonprof-
its and charitable funds are part
of Giving Hearts Day this year—
making this the largest group
ever! It’s important to note that
100% of the donations made on
Giving Hearts Day go directly to
the charities. The event runs for
24 hours and you can give from
anywhere by going online to
www.givingheartsday.org. The
minimum contribution is $10
LECTIO DIVINA
Would you like to deepen your prayer life and learn how to pray with Scrip-
ture? Please join Luke Demers for a presen-tation on Lectio Divina (divine read-
ing) on February 17th, 2019 at St. Leo’s (in the church) from 12:30 –
1:30 p.m. The ultimate goal of Lectio Divina is
not to read lots of Scripture, but to
lead us as far as possible into the atti-
tude of contemplative wonder, which
nourishes our faith, hope and love – a
simple loving presence before the
mystery revealed to us in the text.
