JMJ 1 January, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family,
God be with us always. A Wonderful and Joyous New Year to All!
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” Edith Lovejoy Pierce was quoted saying this.
Indeed 2017 is upon us. We have cheered, uncorked the Champagne, blown the whistle, released the confetti, lighted the fireworks, etc. All these to usher in the New Year - these are passing rituals that will fade with the passing days. What remains is how we will make use of the Gift of New Beginnings that always comes with the perspective we have of each year that comes into our lives.
We can either look at 2017 as a mere repetition of 2016 or we can decide to make it different because the Emmanuel . . . “God with us” will make it possible if not I dare say a reality.
It is time that we break away from the year that passed to allow God to cleanse and unburden our hearts of anything and everything that hinders us from the presence and action of His Renewing Spirit. This consists in going the way of Jesus Christ: to forgive, to understand, to be patient, to accept, to submit, to “rise up” . . . I added the three dots because there are many things that we can do so we can truly “Let Go and Let God be God” this 2017.
The book is unfurling and the pages will go by swiftly because
isn’t it that Christmas was just a breath past? The Opportunity of 2017 will not be complete unless we go through several challenges which makes us open our lives to the grace of faith to be steadfast, hope to trust fully and love to make things meaningful. May indeed this year be such an experience of what we can all do because of Jesus our Lord who guides and empowers the words we write on the Book of Opportunity of 2017. God bless and take care.
Love and prayers,
Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval
Amor y oraciones,
Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval
