San Beda el Venerable Fiesta el 25 de mayo.

San Beda dijo de su vida: “He pasado toda mi vida. . . dedi-cando todos mis dolores al estudio de las Escrituras, y en medio de la observancia de la disciplina mo-nástica y la tarea diaria de cantar en la iglesia, siempre me ha encantado aprender, ense-ñar o escribir. , no vio visiones, y no encontró un nue-vo camino a Dios. Św. Rita - 22 maja

Rita należy do najbardziej popularnych świętych na świecie. Urodziła się około 1380 r. w rodzinie ubogich górali w Rocca Porena, niedaleko Cascii (Umbria) jako jedyne dziecko. Według podania miała być dzieckiem wymodlonym przez po-bożnych rodziców. Na chrzcie otrzymała imię Małgorzata (Rita jest jego zdrobnieniem). Na życzenie rodziców wyszła za mąż. Związek ten był jednak bardzo nieudany. Porywczy, brutalny mąż był powodem wielu jej dramatów. Rita znosiła swój los z anielską cierpliwością. Mąż Rity zginął zabity w porachunkach zwaśnionych rodów. Rita była matką dwóch synów, z którymi miała kłopoty wycho-wawcze. Bojąc się, by nie kontynuowali wendety, prosiła Boga, aby raczej zabrał ich ze świata niż mieliby stać się zabójcami. Bóg wysłuchał tej prośby. Obaj młodzieńcy, którzy planowali pomścić ojca, zmarli podczas epidemii. Rita jako trzydziestokil-kuletnia wdowa wstąpiła do zakonu augustianek, które miały swój klasztor w Cascii. Ponieważ była analfabetką, została przyjęta do sióstr "konwersek", które były przeznaczone do codziennej posługi w klasztorze. Z całą radością, z miłości dla Oblubieńca, spełniała najniższe posługi w klasztorze. Często w

ciągu dnia i nocy całowała z miłością obrączkę zakonną, która symbolizowała jej mistyczne zaślubiny z Jezusem. Miała szczególne nabożeństwo do Bożej męki. Widziano ją nieraz, jak leżała krzyżem, zalana łzami. Kiedy pewnego dnia kaznodzieja miał kazanie o męce Pańskiej, prosiła gorąco Je-zusa, by dał jej zakosztować męki chociaż jednego ciernia, który ranił Jego przenajświętszą głowę. Została wysłuchana. W czasie modlitwy poczuła nagle w głowie silne ukłucie. Na tym miejscu wytworzyła się bolesna rana, która zadawała jej nieznośne cierpienia przez 15 lat, aż do śmierci. Aby jednak uniknąć sensacji, Rita prosiła Chrystusa, by rana była ukryta, nadal jednak sprawiając cierpienia. Tak się też stało. Rita od-znaczała się posłuszeństwem, duchem modlitwy i cierpliwości. Będąc prostą i niewykształconą osobą, osiągnęła szczyty kon-templacji. Zmarła na gruźlicę 22 maja 1457 r. w Cascii. Tam jej nienaru-szone ciało spoczywa do dziś. Sanktuarium Świętej, obejmują-ce jej rodzinny dom w Rocca Porena oraz klasztor i kościół w Cascii, w którym została pochowana, jest miejscem tłumnych pielgrzymek. Sława świętości zaczęła ściągać do Cascii wielu pielgrzymów. Przy grobie Rity działy się nadzwyczajne rzeczy, które napełniły sławą tamtejszy klasztor. Kiedy po kilku latach wybuchł w kościele gwałtowny pożar, mimo że spalił się cały kościół, cyprysowa trumna z ciałem Rity pozostała nietknięta. Zaczęły mnożyć się wizerunki i modlitwy do służebnicy Bożej. Papież Urban VIII w roku 1628 zatwierdził jej kult. Jednak jej uroczysta kanonizacja odbyła się dopiero 24 maja 1900 r. Do-konał jej papież Leon XIII, nazywając św. Ritę "drogocenną perłą Umbrii". Św. Rita jest patronką w sprawach trudnych i beznadziejnych. Jest opiekunką wielu dzieł charytatywnych i bractw. W Polsce kult św. Rity jest bardzo żywy. Szczególnym jego miejscem jest klasztor sióstr augustianek w Krakowie, gdzie w kościele św. Katarzyny przechowywane są relikwie św. Rity. W ikonografii Święta przedstawiana jest w stroju zakonnym - w czarnym habicie i w białym welonie, z cierniem na czole. Jej atrybutami są: dwoje dzieci, krucyfiks, cierń, figa, pszczoły, róża.

Fifth Sunday of Easter John 13:31-33a,34-35

Background on the Gos-pel Reading Today's Gospel again comes from the

Gospel of John. Like last week, today we hear words spoken by Jesus before his death and Resurrection. Jesus is teaching at the Last Supper. John's Gospel does not include an institution of the Eucharist narrative; instead, Jesus washes his disciples' feet. Immediately after, Jesus predicts his betrayal by Judas. Today's Gospel follows that pre-diction. It can be read as a continuing explanation of Jesus' act of washing his disciples' feet. It begins with the announcement that this is the moment when the Son of Man will be glorified. This theme contin-ues throughout John's Passion. Jesus will be glorified in his death on the cross and in his Resurrection, and the disciples will glorify Jesus in the love they show. John's Gospel does not present a sentimental view of love. This is a type of love that is shown in service and sacrifice. It is difficult to choose to love when faced with hatred and anger. Jesus tells the dis-ciples that all will know that they are his disciples because of the love they show for one another. Saint Bede the Venerable Feast day May 25

Saint Bede said of his life, “I have spent the whole of my life . . . devoting all of my pains to the study of the Scriptures, and amid the obser-vances of monastic discipline and the daily task of singing in church, it has ever been my delight to learn or teach or write.” Here was a saint who worked no miracles, saw no visions, and found no new way to God. He won heaven by doing the will of God. Bede was probably born in 672 in England and by the age of seven was in the monastery school. At 29, he was ordained a priest. His gifts for writing and teaching were noticed immediately. He composed 45 books. Thirty were commentaries on Scripture; others were on the lives of the saints and secular subjects. His most widely recognized work was the Ecclesiastical History of the English People, a history of the Church of early England and Ireland. Bede’s whole life was dedicated to faith and learning. He died as simply as he had lived. He summoned the monks to his bed, gave them each homemade gifts, dictated the last line of his book to his secretary, and died singing the Glory Be, his favorite hymn. Saint Bede is the patron of historians.
