SKDA—That’s us! (The following is a letter from John Galvan, the Di-rector of the Office for Schools of the Diocese of San Diego.) Dear Friends of Catholic Schools, It is our pleasure to officially introduce to you Saint Katharine Drexel Academy (SKDA). An integrated model for Catholic education is the Diocese of San Diego. The Diocese has embarked on a strategic inte-gration of two schools in the Center City Heights and College District area: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School and Blessed Sacrament Parish School. This strategic move comes along with a strong commit-ment to sustain Catholic education in the most needed area of our Diocese. Only two miles apart, the integra-tion project creates the possibility of consolidating the strengths of two Catholic schools to serve a broader audience in the region. This model also opens the op-portunity for innovation and creativity in providing quality, accessible and cutting-edge Catholic educa-tional formation for the children in the Center City and College District area of San Diego. We are committed to the formation of the whole child, and therefore, are working with the University of San Diego to launch a wellness program at SKDA. We are also launching a Blended Learning approach to en-hance the academic rigor of the school and provide learning environments that are conducive to empower-ing the learning style and pace of each child toward their full academic potential. Finally, we are working to make SKDA an accessible choice for the many families who dream of a Catholic education for their children by launching a robust tuition assistance cam-
paign. The program will invite individuals and organi-zations, who believe in the transformative power of this model, to join us in the sustainability efforts we embark on. Each school community that will form SKDA brings a rich legacy from decades of forming and transforming the lives of many generations of alumni from Blessed Sacrament Parish School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School. We want to honor their legacy with a name and patron saint reflecting the future of these two communities as they come together to carry on the ministry of Catholic education in the region. After the careful consideration of names and partron saints and the collective feedback of over 160 people from both communities, Saint Katherine Drexel was chosen as the patron saint for our new school. Saint Katherine Drexel, S.B.S. (Nov 26 1858- March 3, 1955) was the second canonized saint to have been born in the United States and the first to have been born a U.S. citizen. She established the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The Vatican cited fourfold aspects of Drexel’s legacy, including: a love of the Eucharist and perspective on the unity of all peoples; courage and initiative in addressing social inequality among minorities; her belief in quality education for all and efforts to achieve it, and selfless service, including the donation of her inheritance for the victims of injustice. We believe these tenets will serve as a compass for the future legacy this school will create over the next decades. SKDA prepares to open its doors in Aug 2018 em-powered by its Patroness’ motto: “Be a sign in the world of the power of the Eucharistic Christ to effect unity and community among all peoples.” We invite you to join us in our efforts to the success of our new integrated model.

AROUND TOWN
Daily Prayer for Our Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful & tepid priests; for your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for your tempted priests; for your lonely & desolate priests; for your young priests; for your dying priests; for the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me, the priests who absolved me from my sins, the priests at whose Masses I assisted & who gave me Your body & blood in Communion, the priests to whom I am indebted any other way especially (name….) O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, and bless them abundantly in time & in eternity. Amen. --St. Therese of Lisieux
