Counselor’s Corner

Greetings Fogelsville Families!

I hope you are all doing well and have found the time to slow down and truly enjoy this holiday season!

Here in the Rainbow Room, I’ve been training a new crew of peer mediators for the year. Twenty 5th grade students completed two weeks of training to learn how to mediate conflicts. Using these skills, they go out during first and second grade recess to assist students who may behaving disagreements. I’m very proud of all the hard work this group of students put it to become peer mediators!

Each month, we ask teachers to pick a student from their class that exemplifies the character word of the month. The students chosen are the recipients of that month’s leadership award. November’s character word of the month was “kindness.” To introduce the word, a video was shown on the morning news, as well as during class chats, showing what it looks like to “pay it forward.” Kindness is contagious and doing something kind for someone just may inspire them to do something kind for someone else!

In the spirit of celebrating kindness, especially during the holiday season, I’ve listed 25 random acts of kindness that you can do at home with your families!1. Smile at someone. 20. Write a thank you 2. Write a letter to someone. note to your teacher.3. Pick up litter. 21. Take art supplies to 4. Compliment someone. a hospital children’s ward5. Hold the door for someone. 22.
