With Daylight Saving Time approaching on March 8, the JGMFD re- minds residents to check their smoke and carbon mon- oxide alarms. If you need assistance with the checks, the JGMFD is here to help. The JGMFD received $5,000 from the “Close Before You Doze” campaign and $1,000 from Kwik Star. These grants allowed the fire department to purchase smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and batteries. The American Red Cross is also a partner and provides smoke alarms. The department’s goal is to perform checks while at a resident’s home during a medical call; however, there may be times when this is not possible due to the type of call. But the department will leave a card for the resident to call back to schedule a time for the check. Residents within Johnston or Grimes can take advan- tage of this service by contacting the fire marshal at 515- 251-7692. A call to schedule a check could help save your life.
