From Our PrincipalWelcome to the 2010 2011 school year! I hope all of you enjoyed your summer break. Its great to be back!Opening day was wonderful! I was able to visit all of the classrooms and welcome our students back. Theirexcitement and happiness at being back in school is thrilling and motivating to all of us. There is something veryspecial and unique about the first day of school. We cant replicate it, but we certainly can enjoy it! It was a pleasure

to see so many of you at the first day coffee, too! Our PTA sponsored the welcome back event. I hope that you hadan opportunity to meet some of the members and hear about the wonderful programs and events they help to sponsorat Garden Gate. They enrich your childrens experiences at Garden Gate through the programs and activities theysupport. I hope that you consider becoming a member of the PTA. For more information, please contact our PTAPresident, Merav Talmor, at [email protected].

Bursting at the SeamsThis year, our classrooms are especially full. We have added one class and we now have almost 720 students. Some of our attendance area students are being bused to other Cupertino schools until we have the openings to bringthem back. We have had to put a first grade classroom in the Spectra Art Room temporarily and hope to have a newportable in place for that class by mid-year or sooner. I applaud the flexibility and the positive attitudes of our staff andcommunity as we adjust to accommodate the increased student numbers in limited space!

Please Read the Following. . .Here are a few back to school reminders that will make everyones life easier if followed:

Drop Off and Pick Up TimesPlease remember that students are not to arrive at Garden Gate before 7:45 a.m. in the morning. We do not haveadult supervision available until that time. Also, please remember to pick up your students promptly at their dismissaltimes, either 2:05 p.m. for primary grades or 2:35 p.m. for upper grades. Pay particular attention to Tuesdayswhen the dismissal time for all students is 1:30 p.m. Again, there isnt supervision available for students who arenot part of an afternoon program at school. We are not equipped to babysit children. If you need childcare you cancontact our on campus Child Development Center, (408) 725-0269, or make other arrangements for your child.

Also, please remember primary students are never, never supposed to wait alone for an upper grade siblingto be dismissed. Students need to have adult supervision at all times. It is not safe, even for hour, to leave

    your child unattended.

In the MorningPlease do not wait with your child by the classroom door, unless you are a kindergarten parent. All other students(Grades 1 5) are instructed to drop their backpacks off by the classroom door and wait on the blacktop at the back ofthe school for the 7:55a.m. bell to ring. Then, the students may line up by the classroom door.

LunchesIf your children buy hot lunch, please make sure they have money in their account. Try to pre-pay as many lunchesas you can. You can do it on-line (www.paypams.com), by calling 1-888-994-5100, or by using the blue envelope forcash or checks. If your child has forgotten his/her lunch, you may drop it off at the school office. We have studentoffice helpers who will deliver the lunches. You must have the lunch in the office by 11:00a.m. in order to ensure itsdelivery.

Rule of Thumb (And a Good One!):

When in doubt, read the instructions! In this case, that would be the Garden Gate Parent Handbook,

which all of you have received.
