Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Requirements

The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires chemical manufacturers, distributors or importersto provide safety data sheets (SDS) to communicate the hazards of hazardous chemical products.

Employers must ensure that the SDS are readily accessible to employees. New SDS must bein a uniform format and include section numbers, headings and associated information underthe headings.

Labeling Requirements

Employers have flexibility regarding the type of system to be used in their workplaces.

Employers may choose to label workplace containers either with the same label that would be onshipped containers for the chemical under the revised rule or with label alternatives that meet therequirements for the standard.
