The terrorist organization known as Cobra began its campaign for

world conquest in the early 1980s with displays of its military might,

promises of new ideological visions and threats of political changes on

a global scale. Led by the diabolical, but brilliant, Cobra

Commander, Cobra had one final and ultimate goal, to defeat the

countries of the planet and rule the world with an iron fist.

The terrorist organization had acquired financing, technology and

weaponry from all points of the globe and had swelled its ranks with

new followers and members every day with promises of power and riches.

Cobra had truly become a threat like no other power the world had ever

seen before.

The United States government took the lead to thwart the advances

and progress made by Cobra and created the military unit known as

G.I.Joe with one specific purpose, stopping Cobra at each and every

turn. G.I.Joes roster was comprised of the top officers and troops

from the main military divisions and other government organizations,

and each Joe member was given a codename and a special designated

purpose within the new specialized fighting force.

Even though Cobra continued to flourish and continued to remain a

threat, G.I.Joe was able to stop and prevent the majority of the

terrorist organizations plans and missions that ranged from a machine

designed to disrupt the Earths weather to a plot that involved robbing

Fort Knox of its riches. It was because of such failures that

frustrated forces within Cobra decided to literally create a new

leader, a clone comprised of DNA traces from some of historys greatest

and notorious figures including such notable figures as Napoleon

Bonaparte, Julius Caesar and Attila the Hun.

The Cobra clone became the man known as Serpentor, also declared

as the Cobra Emperor, but as Cobra and G.I.Joe would soon learn, this

biological wonder had its flaws, such as over confidence and an

unmatched ego, and like Cobra Commander before him, suffered numerous

failures at the hands of G.I.Joe.

After years of conflict, a final battle between the good forces

of G.I.Joe and the evil forces of Cobra was at hand, and the nature and

apparent history of Cobra was about to be exposed. It was revealed

that Cobra Commander was a citizen of an ancient race of people known

as Cobra La and he was set forth upon the world by a half-man, half-

snake-like creature known as Golobulus with a mission to not only

defeat human-kind, but to exterminate it.

Golobulus revealed to he world of how the citizens of Cobra La

had retreated deep into the mountains of the Himalayas thousands of

years ago and had remained hidden there until only recently. It was

Cobra Commanders duty to create a grand army and destroy humankind, to

pave the way for Cobra La to dominate the Earth for themselves as they

had apparently done many years in the past.

In their final collision however, G.I.Joe destroyed the Cobra La

City within the Himalayas and had crippled the forces of the Cobra army

itself. Golobulus was missing and Serpentor had exposed his

detrimental flaws and shortcomings which resulted in his loss of power.

The remains of the terrorist organization had retreated back to their

main base of operations on Cobra Island where Cobra Commander, the true

founder of Cobra, soon reclaimed his position as the leader of Cobra.

O n e Y e a r A f t e r t h e F a l l o f C o b r a

L a

General Hawk laced his black army boots, put on his dark brown

leather coat and placed his commonly worn green cap upon his head

before moving out and into the quiet corridors of G.I.Joe headquarters.

He passed only a handful of his soldiers on this late night as he tried

to recall what one of G.I.Joes top physicians had said to him over the

phone only minutes earlier. He was still half asleep having only

managed to do so before he got that call from the Joe Doctor known as

Lifeline. Hawk had not been getting much rest as of late, and he

treasured every single wink he could get. To the General, Lifeline

sounded disturbed and even a bit excited, but regardless of how

Lifeline was feeling, Hawk realized that it must be something of great

importance for the Joe physician to wake him so late at night.

As General Hawk made his way to Lifelines research facility he

realized it had been over a year since their battle in the Himalayas

against Cobra and Cobra La. G.I.Joe had stopped Serpentor and

Golobulus and their plans of de-evolving every man, woman and child on

the Earth with a form of mutated spores that would have descended from

space and touched down on every corner of the planet. At the time, the

General believed that the defeat may have destroyed Cobra once and for

all, but six months later Cobra resurfaced again.

That epic battle one year ago had crippled Cobras forces

however, and Hawk believed a final blow could very well end the on-

going conflict for good. Unbeknownst to Lifeline and nearly everyone

else within G.I.Joe, the General had already put plans into motion that

could result in Cobras defeat and its demise once and for all. He

knew that victory was at hand, and at long last the world would be free

of the Cobra threat. He had to make that happen.

The General arrived at the research facility, but was surprised

to see two armed soldiers standing guard at the doors entrance. He

turned to one of them. Who ordered you two here?

The two young men looked to one another seemingly confused by

the question. One of the soldiers finally answered. Lifeline, sir

Hawk opened the door and realized that whatever Lifeline had

called him here for had to be of a serious nature. The relatively

passive physician was not the type to request armed security for any

reason. This was totally unlike him. The General could see Lifeline,

dressed in a long white lab coat, on the far side of the room staring

into a microscope. All right Lifeline, whats going on?

Lifeline continued with his observation. Just a minute

General

Hawk placed his hands behind his back and paced about the room

patiently waiting for Lifeline to be finished. Finally, the doctor

looked to him. Its the most amazing thing Ive ever seen Lifeline

reached for a collection of papers on the table to his side. I I

dont even know where to begin sir Lifeline stumbled through his

words, and it was obvious to the General that the Joe physician was not

his usually calm and contained self.

Hawk leaned back against a wall. The first thing you need to do

is calm down Lifeline Take a deep breath, and start from the

beginning

Lifeline collected his thoughts and moved to stand face to face

with the General. Its Cobra La

A confused expression crossed Hawks face. What about Cobra

La?

Lifeline moved away and began to pace about the room himself.

We were led to believe that the inhabitants of Cobra La dominated the

Earth long before humanity existed and it was the Ice Age that

ultimately destroyed their civilization. With the rise of humankind

they went to the Himalayas to live in hiding and seclusion. As the

story goes, Golobulus sent the man who would one day become the Cobra

Commander into the world to build an army to pave the way for Cobra

Las return

Hawk interjected. You said we were led to believe

Lifeline couldnt get out the words quick enough. Exactly

After our victory and the destruction of the Cobra La, we captured many

of its citizens and as you also know I have been studying several of

them

You found something, didnt you? The General was quickly

catching on and was becoming more interested by the second.

There never was a Cobra La race... These people may have been

part of some sort of Cobra La culture, but this was not some forty

thousand year old species. From what I can ascertain they are

genetically manipulated human beings and these drastic changes that

have been done to their bodies were completed no more than forty years

ago.

Hawks jaw dropped and he was speechless. Everything they had

discovered up to that point seemed to validate the Cobra La story, but

now he wondered, had it all been a hoax? Why would they do this? he

asked.

Lifeline was quick to respond. I dont know, but what I do know

is that those people truly believe they are from some unique

civilization They dont know theyre human General, and to tell you

the truth I dont know how to tell them He paused momentarily.

Whoever did this has skills and abilities beyond anything Ive ever

seen

Hawk interrupted him. What can be done? Can we return them to

their human forms?

Its similar to the process induced by the spores. I wasnt

able to combat the changes then, and I dont know if Ill be able to do

it now Lifeline crossed his arms and pondered the thought. He hated

feeling helpless but he knew he just might be out of his league.

General Hawk padded Lifeline on the shoulder. Speak with Doc,

and do what you can, but keep me posted He then turned and headed

towards the exit. You did good Lifeline

The Joe doctor was not finished however. Theres one more thing

General

Hawk turned back to Lifeline who was now staring at the floor.

Whats that?

Theres one other person who needs to know about this

Deep beneath the cold Atlantic Ocean, a near silently moving

Cobra submarine pushed through the strong water currents. As with much

of Cobras arsenal, the huge sea vessel had a symbolic snake head

positioned on its exterior, in this case on its bow, but beyond the

extravagant looks, this machine was built for sea combat and it had the

ability to best much of what was in the water. Behind the snake was a

long sleek black colored hull that stretched for some seven hundred

feet before reaching its four propellers, ten torpedo launchers along

each of her sides and shark-like fins extending from all over that

helped allow the submarine to seemingly glide through the ocean.

Inside the state of art vessel, one of Cobras most trusted and

capable commanders, a man known as Major Bludd stood at near attention

as the subs scanners pierced through the dark water looking for

something that Bludd wasnt sure even existed. The Major was one of

Cobra Commanders most loyal followers and he was used for only the

most important of missions. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Bludd

lost his right arm and his left eye in a mission that almost cost him

his life. That mission was ultimately victorious for the former

mercenary and it solidified his position within the Cobra hierarchy.

The heat inside the sub was intense and sweat slowly ran down

Bludds face from underneath his dark helmet. He wiped his brow onto

his commonly worn medium brown colored clothes before squinting his one

remaining eye to take a look at the subs viewer in front of him. It

wasnt much longer before what looked like an underwater city appeared

across the screen. As they got closer, Bludd soon realized it was no

city that existed before them.

It was as Cobra Commander predicted. The underwater headquarters

of the Decepticons was completely intact and seemingly untouched since

the evil Transformer faction abandoned the base a year earlier. The

Transformers were a race of mechanical beings that had the ability to

alter their robotic forms into vehicles, animals, weapons and all sorts

of machinery. They hailed from the planet Cybertron and they had

brought their internal war to Earth millions of years ago.

As a result of a battle within the confines of the Autobot

starship known as the Ark, the immense alien vessel crashed to Earth

disabling both the Autobot and Decepticon warriors inside her. The Ark

finally came to rest inside a dormant volcano, and for the next four

million years, the dormant Transformers remained undiscovered and

untouched. In 1984 the Volcano erupted and the internal systems of the

Ark activated and repaired all of the Transformers within her hull.

The war between the good Autobots and evil Decepticons had arrived to

Earth and for the next three years the fate of the planet itself had to

be decided.

In early 1987, the Autobots joined forces with the Earths major

governments to launch an offensive to remove the Decepticons once and

for all from the planet. Their plan ultimately succeeded and the

Decepticons retreated back to their homeworld of Cybertron. The

Decepticons had departed the planet in such haste that their underwater

headquarters, comprised of a downed battlecruiser, buildings, towers,

tunnels and holding structures were left virtually intact. Cobra had

just discovered a metaphorical treasure chest of technology, weaponry

and wonders they could not possibly imagine.

Aboard the Cobra submarine, Major Bludd rubbed his chin and

pondered what to do next. Suddenly, something else caught his eye.

Behind the various structures and crashed starship was what Bludd

believed to be another vessel. This one however appeared to be in

pristine condition perhaps having never been in the air or in space.

The ship seemed to be perfect replica of the original Decepticon

flagship known as the Nemesis which was believed to be more powerful

than the Autobots mighty Ark.

The Cobra sub pushed forward towards the deep purple colored

alien ship. The sub, large in its own right, was easily dwarfed by the

Decepticon vessel that stretched some three miles from bow to stern.

To Bludd, the Decepticon ship looked like a large fish, with sharp wing

like pieces extending out from above and below her. The Major closely

watched the viewer in front of him as they slowly maneuvered around the

mysterious ship. He finally managed to say a few words. What a

beautiful piece of machinery. Now, we need to find a way inside

Cobra Commander tossed and turned in his sleep. Like the G.I.Joe

General, the leader of the Cobra organization was trying to get some

much needed rest. The Cobra Terrordrome, similar to Joe headquarters,

was also very quiet this late at night, but still the Commander could

not obtain the sleep he desired. Much of the problem was for the past

month he had been having strange and disturbing dreams. They were

dreams that made no sense to him and they consisted of visions of a

human woman and a small boy that his conscious memory could not place.

Yet, these same images appeared in his head every night. Cobra

Commander finally decided to rise from his bed. He dressed in his

heavy plated battle armor and then placed his shiny silver mask over

his head and secured it. He departed his quarters acknowledging the

two guards at his door and then moved down the long corridor before him.

Upon his return to the leadership of Cobra, Cobra Commanders

most loyal scientists had constructed him an advanced suit of armor.

Bullet proof, heat resistant and technically enhanced to give its host

super human strength, Cobra Commander was determined to not be ousted

from his dominant position again.

He walked out onto the top floor of the Terrordrome and he could

see almost all of Cobra Island on the calm and clear night. The wind

was lightly blowing as he moved to the buildings edge to stand and

look up at the many bright stars above. He made sure no one else was

around, slowly removed the locked clamps to his helmet and placed it on

the ledge to his side. It was soothing to have the air against his

face.

He then looked down from the dark sky and covered his face within

his hands. The masks he had worn for so many years were used to cover

his disfiguration and his Cobra La heritage, but Cobra Commander knew

he also used them to hide his face from himself. Even after so many

years he could barely force himself to look into a mirror. Even the

thought disgusted him. With his head still buried deep within his

hands the images from his dreams suddenly appeared through the

darkness. This time a name accompanied the image of the small boy, the

name of Billy.

Suddenly, the Commander could hear someone approaching from

behind him. He quickly picked up his mask and placed it back on before

turning to see Destro standing before him. Destro was a physically

imposing figure who stood nearly six foot four inches tall and was in

the neighborhood of two hundred and seventy five pounds. His body was

covered in a jet-black suit and a long red cape swayed in the wind

behind him. Like Cobra Commander, Destros face was hidden behind a

mask, but this mask was a bright gold with face-like features such

moving lips and cheeks. For Destro, his mask was a traditional piece

passed down through his Scottish ancestry.

Destro approached the Cobra leader but he had yet to say a word.

What is it Destro? asked the Commander somewhat aggressively.

I have noticed your lack of sleep as of late. Is there a

problem Commander? Destro almost had a sound of concern in his deep

voice.

Cobra Commander brushed by the much larger man and headed to the

stairway. Nothing you need to concern yourself with Destro Before

the Commander could get to the exit Destro spoke again.

We just received word from Major Bludd

Cobra Commander stopped dead in his tracks and turned back to

Destro. Did he find anything?

Destro smiled. You could say that

General Hawk looked out of his large office window and into the

darkness as he pondered the situation at hand. Everything he had

known, everything he believed, was now coming into question. As

Lifeline paced about the room, Hawk knew what had to be done, and what

had to be said and he knew that Lifeline was not going to like it. The

General finally turned around to face him.

Lifeline, now dressed in his usual red colored medical jump suit,

removed the glasses from his face, and he could already tell what Hawk

was going to say. Youre not going to tell him, are you? Lifeline

threw his glasses down upon Hawks desk disgusted by the mere thought.

No, Im not

How can you justify this General? How can you let this man live

with a lie? Lifelines voice was quickly rising and already others

could hear him in the corridor outside the office.

Im going to tell you how I can justify it Doctor. He is the

enemy. He is the leader of a terrorist organization bent on our

destruction and world domination There is nothing more to it than

that! Hawk slammed his hands down hard upon the wooden desk.

Lifeline was however, ready to argue. He is a living, breathing

person General. He deserves to know what has happened to him.

Lifeline was very passionate about the subject and was determined to

have his way.

We dont even know the full story Lifeline Hawk calmed

himself down. For all we know, Cobra Commander could very well have

been part of this giant hoax He may have orchestrated the entire

thing Hawk was searching for answers and excuses and he knew it.

From what I have witnessed General, and from what Cobra La did

to him, I would say not Lifeline turned to once again move about the

room.

There is no discussion here Lifeline Dont take this the wrong

way, but I dont expect you to understand Youre not a soldier, and

believe me I respect you for that, but this is not the time for an

ethical debate. With Cobra on the verge of collapse, I want every

advantage we can get. If this is somehow having an effect on Cobra

Commanders mental stability then I can only see this as beneficial

Hawk finally took a seat at his desk. He knew the two of them

were looking at this from completely different perspectives and there

was no way they were going to find a compromise. Lifeline said no

more, but the General wasnt finished.

Lifeline, you need to understand that I literally have millions

of lives to protect, and I cannot put one person, friend or foe, above

that simple fact. Lifeline shook his head and moved towards the door,

but Hawk had one more thing to say. This discovery youve made is

completely classified information You are not to discuss it with

anyone The Joe physician exited the Generals office, slammed the

door behind him and slowly headed back to the research facility.

Cobra Commander trusted very few people now. Cobra had become

merely a tool to obtain his ultimate goals of wealth and power. When

the organization was initially formed, Cobra Commander considered

Destro one of his most loyal advisors. He even considered him a

friend, at least the closest thing to a friend Cobra Commander could

have. It was Destro, along with Dr. Mindbender who ultimately thwarted

to subdue Cobra Commanders powers with the genetically created being

known as Serpentor, who they deemed to be the Cobra Emperor.

Serpentor was eventually ousted from the Cobra hierarchy and

Cobra Commander had regained his position as the supreme leader. Even

with revenge foremost on his mind, Cobra Commander had chosen to spare

Destro, at least for the time being. He knew Destro could still be an

asset even though he could never fully trust the man again. One day,

when he would no longer have a use for him, Cobra Commander planned to

dispose of Destro in a most satisfying way. Dr. Mindbender, on the

other hand, was lucky to escape with his life. The former Cobra

scientist had not been heard of since the Commanders return.

Now, Destro and Cobra Commander had no other option but to

cooperate with one another. Cobra, as the two of them were well aware

of, was on the verge of collapse. Money, weaponry and man power was

scarce. If something wasnt done to aid in this plight, this

organization the two of them had helped construct would finally meet

its end. Deep within the Terrordrome, Major Bludd appeared across the

Control Rooms main screen. Cobra Commander could only hope that Bludd

had found a way out of the seemingly bottomless hole they found

themselves in.

Destro took a seat at a station while Cobra Commander stood tall,

folded his arms and looked to the viewer. Major Bludd, report!

On the other end of the feed, Bludd patiently waited, now

standing on the bridge of the mighty Decepticon battleship.

I am please to inform you Commander, that we have discovered

something a little more useful than an abandoned outpost This is a

nearly operational Decepticon starship. I believe the Decepticons

never even had the opportunity to use it.

Destro couldnt help but smile for he knew that this may in fact

be the break they needed. This is excellent news he added.

The Commander was shaking his head in agreement. Yes, yes it

is

Major Bludd continued. Im lucky to have Scrap-Iron with me.

Hopefully he can decipher what the hell all of this is.

Cobra Commander cut him off with a rising voice. This is of

supreme importance Major Bludd! Use any resource you need to get that

craft operational!

Destro again spoke up. Yes, Major, that ship may be the key to

unlimited power! With it, no force on Earth could stop us!

The Cobra Leader savored the thought and couldnt help but

chuckle. It had been a long time since he had done so and it brought

him tremendous joy. He knew that with this ship under his control not

only could Cobra be saved, not only could Cobra thrive, but the planet

itself may finally be his. Even as these thoughts of power and world

domination filled his head, it wasnt long before they were pushed

aside by the visions Cobra Commander had been having earlier in the

night of the boy and the woman. Without notice, and without a word,

the Commander suddenly turned from the screen and departed the room.

Disgruntled Lifeline brushed by several Joe teammates as he moved

down the corridor from General Hawks office until he came face to face

with Roadblock whom he was surprised to see so early in the morning.

Roadblock was a huge man in physical stature. He was almost a foot

taller than Lifeline, his arms bulged because of his massive biceps and

Lifeline thought his head was surely the size of a medicine ball

although he would never be brazen enough to say it aloud. But as

intimidating as he was on the outside, Roadblock was a teddy bear at

heart. The two men had become close friends over the years and they

shared many of the same beliefs and ideals.

Lifeline said nothing as he looked up to notice the bald dark

skinned man staring down at him with his arms folded across his pumped

up chest. Lifeline knew that Roadblock was aware that he was upset.

Whats the problem Lifeline? Roadblock unfolded his arms and

led Lifeline to a seat nearby where the two men sat down. The Joe

doctor could tell Roadblock had just come from the gym.

Ive been ordered by General Hawk not to discuss it Lifeline

was disturbed by the fact he could not reveal what he had discovered.

Although Cobra La was the enemy, Lifeline knew that the survivors could

very well be innocent victims of an elaborate hoax. Lifeline believed

that Cobra Commander himself was innocent, but he could do very little

but let the situation play itself out while he sat back and watched it

unfold. As per Hawks orders, he could do no more.

When we cant talk, we cant talk Roadblock leaned back into

the cushy chair before turning to the window to catch a glimpse of

lights emanating from two Skystrikers flying in the sky just beyond the

bases perimeter.

Lifeline said nothing for several more minutes until finally

deciding he had to do something. Orders or not, he had a medical oath

to help all those in need, even if they maybe the enemy. Whether Hawk

liked it not, Lifeline had made a decision and nothing was going to

change it now.

I need to go to Cobra Island Lifeline whispered.

Roadblocks head swung away from the window. Cobra Island?

What are you talking about Lifeline? A confused expression crossed

Roadblocks face. This was something he was not expecting to hear.

Lifeline continued to whisper. I have to see Cobra Commander

I need to tell him that he may be a victim of a great lie

Roadblock looked around to verify no one could hear them. What

do you mean? The head snake fell for a story that was fake?

Roadblocks speech was sometimes mixed with rhymes and at other times

riddles. It was a trait of his which some Joes found amusing, but

something many other Joes, including Lifeline, found intriguing and saw

it as proof that Roadblock was much more than a physical powerhouse,

but a man of superior intellect. Lifeline truly believed that

Roadblock could leave G.I.Joe at anytime time he wanted and make a

career out of writing poems and literature.

Lifeline folded his arms. Cobra La was not what we thought it

was Roadblock. Its citizens, its creatures, its plant-life and just

about everything else associated with it was probably created in a

laboratory. Cobra La was a genetic creation

Roadblock added in. And you think someone pulled the wool over

the Cobra Commanders evil eyes

I do Roadblock and it really bothers me. As much distain as I

have for the man, I truly believe he needs to know

Roadblock rose from his seat. Well, pack your bags, my friend,

because what we might getting ourselves into is more than a small

errand

Lifeline quickly got out of his seat to stand in front of the

imposing man. But Roadblock I have to do this, but you dont. If

General Hawk finds out, well both be done Our careers might be over

A small smile developed on Roadblocks face. I owe that snake

Roadblock knew that it was Cobra Commander himself that was

instrumental in the defeat of Cobra La at the hands of G.I.Joe. Cobra

Las ruler Golobulus, with Serpentor at his side, unleashed a mutating

spore upon Cobra Commander that biologically changed him into a snake-

like creature. The organic poison reached through every part of the

Commanders body, but he managed to hold onto his mind long enough to

lead a captured Roadblock out of Cobra La. With Cobra Commanders

assistance, Roadblock and a group of G.I.Joes attacked Cobra La that

ultimately led to its fall and destruction.

Even though Cobra Commander was later returned to humanoid form,

and had re-taken his place as the Cobra leader, Roadblock and he had

formed a unique bond. For that very brief time, the two needed each

other, and their cooperation led to Golobuluss defeat and the saving

of humankind itself. Like Lifeline, Roadblock knew that without a

doubt Cobra was their enemy, and this meant Cobra Commander as well,

but there were still some debts to be repaid, and whatever was to

happen down the road, those consequences would have to be resolved at a

later date. Right now however, Roadblock knew what he had to do and

that was to help his friend.

Cobra Commander flipped through the numerous personnel files deep

within the records room of the Terrordrome. Terrorist organization or

not, Cobra Commander wanted to know as much about his own troops and

officers as he possible could. In these records was information

concerning birthplaces, prior places of employment and even the

families of his Cobra followers. Even though Cobra was against

everything the United States government stood for, it was no less

bureaucratic, at least in this regard.

When Cobra was first under his command, as one might expect,

there were no records of him. He had made sure of that, but when

Serpentor came to power, a file covering Cobra Commander found itself

amongst the others. Cobra Commander finally located this file, removed

it, and sat at a desk to examine the information inside.

With the exception of the Commander himself and others like

Destro, no one was permitted in the records room. He had forgotten all

about it being there until he began thinking about his distant past,

and the images of the woman and the boy who he knew to somehow be

associated with it. At the time the record was made, no one within

Cobra knew of Cobra Las existence with the exception of Cobra

Commander himself.

Even Serpentor, who Golobulus had a hand in creating, was at this

time oblivious to Cobra La, and all the searching conducted for Cobra

Commanders past would be in vain. His past was with Cobra La and not

with regular society where Serpentor would obviously look. As

expected, the slots on the documents where a birthplace, prior

employment and family were left with unknowns. Accompanying the

documentation however were two photos. One was that of a boy and the

other a woman. They were the images from his dream. The photos had no

apparent relation to the other paperwork and were included for an

unknown reason. Cobra Commander quickly shuffled through the papers to

see just who had completed this file and was surprised to see that it

was Destro. He quickly rose to his feet, headed towards the door and

was ready to get some answers by any means necessary.

Major Bludd approached Scrap-Iron who was on one knee and elbows

deep in Decepticon wires and circuitry. All around the Major, Cobra

troops and B.A.Ts moved about. Some were working on finishing repairs,

while others loaded equipment and the remaining attempted to decipher

the alien language written on control stations throughout the immense

bridge. Bludd knew that even if they were able to get the ship

operational, actually using the craft was another matter altogether.

This vessel was designed for creatures who far larger than any human.

Are we making any progress? asked Bludd.

Scrap-Iron continued with his work. Were definitely making

some progress Major, but this is going take a while. Its like putting

a four year old in front of a Ferrari and asking them to disassemble

the engine and put it back together again

Bludd sighed. You are no four year old Scrap-Iron

Scrap-Iron chuckled. Right now I feel like one Major Bludd.

Well, I have to tell Cobra Commander something. Please give me

something. I cannot listen to that screeching voice yelling at me

today.

Again Scrap-Iron laughed. Tell him were learning a great deal

about this alien technology which wouldnt even be a lie, but this ship

is still far away from flying

Bludd turned to leave. I just hope thatll do

The voyage to Cobra Island was always a dangerous one and was

even more so in the dark. The two Joes knew that daylight would soon

be there and they needed to hurry. Powerful ocean currents and intense

winds plagued the route which always made it an extremely difficult

voyage. Although it was one of the main reasons Cobra had chosen this

place, to G.I.Joe it had simply become an obstacle that they overcame

several times upon invading the island. In the end however, Cobra

always managed to maintain control of the land and the attacks

orchestrated by G.I.Joe and the United States military were pushed back.

Obstacle or not, on this night Roadblock and Lifeline were slowly

beginning to regret the trek. Their small rubber boat was jumping over

each and every high wave as hard rain poured down from the dark sky.

They were completely soaked now and the two men were beginning to have

doubts as to whether they could make it to shore because of Mother

Natures wrath, let alone Cobras outer defenses. Roadblock rose to

his feet and tried to see where Cobras floating gun barges were

positioned as Lifeline manned the small vessels engine. Roadblock

knew the barges were nearly everywhere and that Cobra repositioned them

twice a day. Where they floated was anyones guess.

Up ahead Roadblock could see one, and he knew he only had seconds

to destroy it before it detected them. He raised a long and narrow

bazooka high into the air and pointed it at the barge. He balanced

himself the best he could and fired at the object destroying it which

sent pieces flying high into the early morning air. He put the weapon

down and turned to Lifeline. I just hope that they think they lost it

in the storm, or we might have a welcome that will not be warm

Lifeline looked worried, but he knew before he left what he was

getting into. He breathed a sigh of relief when land became visible up

ahead. The dingy hit the shore, as Roadblock reached for his weapons

and Lifeline reached for his medical kit and a flashlight. Unbeknownst

to the two men someone was already watching them. Standing high above

the beach on a cliff was the Cobra agent known as Firefly.

General Hawk walked into the Joe Command Center where people were

busy at the several dozen control stations positioned throughout the

huge room. This was the heart of Joe Headquarters. Where the battles

were planned, prepared and ultimately executed. Waiting for Hawk, was

Duke, Flint and Beach Head, the second, third and forth in commands.

The General looked to Duke and could tell he had either a

disturbed or worried expression on his face. Duke was outfitted in his

usual beige colored military shirt and his army green pants. Lifeline

and Roadblock are gone

Hawk was already shaking his head. What do you mean gone? he

asked. He almost didnt want to know.

Duke continued. Apparently they took off several hours ago.

They never reported where exactly they were going

Hawk folded his arms. I know where they went

Flint chimed in. Where?

They went to see Cobra Commander. I never had a chance to tell

any of you yet, but Lifeline has made some startling discoveries that

directly involve the Cobra leader.

Duke opened his hands and shrugged. So what do we do now? Do

we continue with this mission or not?

Beach Head was outfitted in his green combat gear, but his

usually worn, face covering hood was pulled down. If I may say so

General, I did say we should have informed the others. If we did,

those two wouldnt have taken off

An irritated expression appeared on the Generals face. As we

already discussed Beach Head, the secrecy of the mission was too

important. We couldnt take the chance this might leak out. Aside

from the four of us, no one could know what was coming

Duke interjected. Regardless of that sir, are we going to

continue or wait to see what those two are going to do?

Hawk thought about it for a moment, but already knew what he had

to do. Roadblock and Lifeline are on their own. Theyve made their

choice. This mission is far too important to stop now. We inform the

rest of the Joes within the hour and we commence the attack on Cobra

Island as planned. You all know what to do, so lets get this done.

The General said no more, turned and exited the control room.

Although Roadblock and Lifeline were foremost on his mind, he could not

let their desertion affect the mission at hand, the most important

mission they had ever participated in. If everything proceeded as he

hoped it would, Cobra would soon be gone, and maybe his two soldiers,

his two friends, could be saved and returned to them as well.

The Cobra agent known as Firefly was outfitted in his gray

camouflage suit, and the only part of his body that was exposed were

his eyes, which he used to peer down upon Lifeline and Roadblock making

their way up the beach below him. He lowered his binoculars to his

side and removed a small detonation remote from his pocket. He moved

his gloved finger across the surface and pondered whether to set off

the numerous mines that were littered beneath the sand. He started to

press the button, but then something came to mind and he removed his

finger completely. He put the device back into his pocket and decided

to watch the two men and figure out exactly what they were up to.

It wasnt a secret that Lifeline was no warrior, and Roadblock

was not the ideal man to send on a reconnaissance mission, so why would

G.I.Joe send a medic and muscle bound soldier whod stand out in the

jungles of the Amazon to Cobra Island? It was this question that

prevented Firefly from killing the two back on the beach, and he now

quietly followed them as they made their way towards the Terrordrome

that was positioned several miles inland. Perhaps whatever the

objective of this intrusion could ultimately be to Fireflys advantage.

Destro was still in the Control Room sitting back in his seat

after having communicated with Major Bludd when Cobra Commander barged

into the room and moved to stand before him. Even with the Cobra

Leaders face hidden beneath the silver armored mask, Destro could tell

something was wrong. For a moment, Cobra Commander stood there, not

saying a word, and just stared at Destro whom he had known for so many

years. Finally he spoke. Whats wrong Destro? Its late, have you

given up sleep completely?

Destro knew the question to be sarcastic and looked up to the

Commander and hesitated before answering. Even though Cobra Commander

was the supreme ruler of the Cobra forces, Destro answered to no one.

That sort of relationship had existed from the beginning.

Destro sort of melded into Cobra after being their prime weapons

supplier for many years. Cobra purchased most of their weaponry from

Destros MARS (Military Armaments Research System) and Cobra was by far

Destros largest customer. Along the way, Destro became an active

player in Cobra politics and their relationship was solidified.

Like yourself Commander, I am having difficulty sleeping.

Besides, I just received an update from Major Bludd on his progress

with our recently acquired Decepticon battlecruiser

Cobra Commander dropped the two photographs he had discovered in

his file into Destros hands. The Commander was prepared to ignore the

information about the alien vessel, at least for now. He had to know

about the pictures. I want you to tell me who these two people are!

Cobra Commanders voice was loud and several tele-vipers sitting nearby

at other posts turned to see what was going on.

Destro didnt even need to look down at the pictures, for he knew

what they were. Like Cobra Commander, Destro had forgotten about the

records room, and the pictures that were within his file.

You mean you dont know? asked Destro. The curious tele-vipers

returned to their work.

No I dont Destro, and why should I? Who are they? Cobra

Commander bent over coming face to face with the gold plated arms

dealer. You made the file Destro, you know who they are!

Finally, Destro decided to concede. When Serpentor replaced you

as the ruler of Cobra he ordered me to create a file on you As I

would later learn, there was not much to be discovered because of your

origins with Cobra La. What I did discover were these photographs

located in your quarters when we searched them shortly after you were

deposed.

The Commander returned to an upright position. Yes I remember

Serpentor doing that, but I do not remember these two pictures or who

these people are Are you sure they came from my quarters? He

grabbed the pictures back from Destro.

I am certain Commander

Instead of getting some answers, Cobra Commander had only more

questions and this mystery of his was only growing larger. There was

one thing he was sure of however, and that was that Destro was

definitely hiding something. His once most trusted advisor knew more

about those pictures than he would reveal.

The two Joes finally found the path they were seeking and took a

moment to focus on just where they were. Roadblocks huge head swung

around and he whispered to Lifeline. From what Sgt. Slaughter could

tell me, this path should lead straight to the Terrordrome.

Lifeline cleaned the mist from his glasses. I guess it would

make little sense to hide something that big anyway

Roadblock leaned back against a tree. The Sarge also told me

what we need to do to get in, but what then my friend?

Lifeline had been taking each step of the operation as he

approached it without much thought. It was not his usual way, but then

again, this was no usual situation. We need to get to Cobra

Commanders quarters. Hopefully hell be there

Lifeline briefly turned to see the sunlight rising off in the

distance over the ocean. He again spoke. We cant trust anyone

Roadblock. If that were the case, I wouldve just sent him a

transmission. We need to confront him in person and finally reveal the

truth. After that, I dont know what hell do, or what well do for

that matter. Thats why I got you

Roadblock smiled. Thats right little man. Ill do what I can

and make sure we go through with this plan. The big Joe then removed

a small electronic device from his backpack and activated it. This

will jam any Cobra sensors. Well just have to watch out for patrols

The two Joes began to slowly walk forward into the darkness.

They could barely see several inches in front of them and the forest

was completely quiet. There were no sounds of animals, insects or even

the wind. It reminded Roadblock of several horror films he had seen,

and as unnerving as it was he knew that if Cobra was to capture them, a

horror film might seem tame by comparison.

Among the trees and without a sound Firefly followed. Something

very strange was going on and he was going to get to the bottom of it.

Why these two Joes were infiltrating Cobra Island was puzzling, but he

knew there had to be an important reason. General Hawk wouldnt send

one of his top physicians and main infantrymen on a suicide mission for

just anything.

General Hawk walked outside of Joe headquarters and into the

fresh air of early morning. He looked around at the equipment and

machinery being prepared for the upcoming battle. The rest of the Joes

knew about the operation now. It was no secret and soon they would be

involved in the biggest conflict of their lives. On the airfield to

Hawks right the Joe Skystrikers, Conquests, Skyhawks, Dragonflys and

Tomahawks were being fueled and armed, while to his left Joe ground

equipment ranging from Rams, Vamps, Mobats, Recon Sleds, Pulverizers,

Sluggers, Wolverines, HAVOCS and Armadillos were loaded onto tractor

trailer trucks in preparation for the journey to the USS Flagg aircraft

carrier.

Waiting for the General were Duke, Flint and Beach Head who Hawk

wasted little time in speaking to. Alright gentlemen, this is it. We

proceed according to the plan, but I have one change to make. The

three listening men looked to one another. Beach Head, I have

something else for you to do

Beach Head rolled his eyes. He had been waiting months for this

moment, to lead the ground offensive to topple Cobra, but the Joe felt

that was going to change. He looked to the sky until his eyes returned

to the Generals. I hate to ask sir, but what do you mean?

I know you were looking forward to the attack Beach Head, but we

have two Joes out there who might need our help. I want you to bring

them home. Instead of monitoring the situation with me, Flint will

lead the ground forces onto the island, while Duke continues to lead

the overall offensive from the air. Your mission, Beach Head, might be

the most important of all.

Beach Head looked disappointed for that was what he was. He had

been hoping to have a pivotal role in this upcoming conflict but that

may have just gone out the window. He was now leading a rescue

mission. Beach Head knew however, that he would have to accept it.

The General continued. We help our own Beach Head. I know I

said earlier that this mission may supersede Roadblock and Lifeline,

but those two men are our brothers and we will do what we can for them.

The disappointment slowly vanished from Beach Heads face. He

knew Hawk was right and rescuing Roadblock and Lifeline was his

priority now realizing it was far more important than any glory he may

received in the main battle itself.

Duke stepped forward and clenched his fists. Then lets put

that final nail in Cobras coffin! The others smiled and raised their

closed hands into the air. Yo Joe!

Roadblock removed his binoculars from his back pack, squatted

down and peered through them. The huge Terrordrome was now in sight.

Lifeline moved to his ear. What do you see? he whispered.

Roadblock continued looking ahead. I see a snake home where no

others but Cobras roam We go in the same way Slaughter and his

Renegades went in, through the air conditioning

Lifeline padded Roadblock on the shoulder. Please remember

Roadblock that were not here to hurt anyone. I just need a couple

minutes of Cobra Commanders time, thats all.

Roadblock returned his binoculars to his backpack. Ill do my

best, but if it comes down to it and we get in a fight, Im not gonna

slow down and Ill use all my might

Lifeline smiled. I understand. I just hope it wont come to

that

The two Joes crept forward within the tall wet grass. The sun

was just coming up and their cover was going to be broken unless they

moved quickly. The two well conditioned men picked up their pace and

made a last dash to the Cobra building. They made it to the ladder

they needed to climb and were soon making their way up the side of the

rounded structure and towards the air conditioning duct they needed to

enter.

Still watching from a safe distance was Firefly who had yet to

report the presence of Lifeline and Roadblock. He still had no idea

what the two men were doing and what their true purpose on Cobra Island

was and he was determined to learn that information himself. He also

knew that time was running short before he would have to confront them.

Deep beneath the ocean, Major Bludds Cobra troops continued at

their work of repairing and completing the Decepticon warship. Bludd

patiently waited above Scrap-Iron who was still bus amongst wires and

circuitry. The Cobra agent returned to his feet to stand before the

Major.

Well? asked Bludd.

Ive done about everything I can do. At least everything I am

capable of, but this ship is still not moving anywhere. It is simply

beyond my comprehension or understanding. Were talking about

technology literally millions of years in advance of our own

Bludd was not impressed. He slammed his right hand hard against

a metal wall before Scrap-Iron could continue. I do however have a

theory

The Major turned back to him. Go on

For some reason, although the Decepticon technology is light

years beyond our own, it somewhat similar to our own battle android

troopers.

A surprised expression appeared across Bludds face. How can

this be?

Youd have to ask our good friend Destro about that. Its

beyond me, but there are some similarities between the BATs built by

his MARS company and Decepticon technology. Although crude by the

Transformer standards, if I had to guess, I would say that Destro or

one of his employees were in contact with Decepticon technology before.

Bludd folded his arms. We can figure that out later Scrap-Iron,

but right now, how do these similarities help us?

Scrap Iron moved towards one of the BATs he had deactivated.

One thing I did find within the Decepticon systems is a sort of self

healing, self replicating software program that uses nanites to repair

the vessel when it is damaged. I think we could use this process to

complete the repairs for us. We just trick the ship into thinking it

is damaged

Bludd interjected. And thats where the BATs come in

Scrap-Iron was smiling as he removed the skull plating from the

deactivated battle android troopers head. Exactly. I think I can

plug our little friend here directly into the ship. Actually itll

take about two dozen of them, but it should, in theory, work. Once the

repairs are complete, we can then control the ship through them.

Now the Major smiled. Do whatever you need to do Scrap-Iron.

If you can get this thing to work, well not only be the saviors of

Cobra, but possibly the ones responsible for it conquering the world.

Our positions within Cobra will be solidified

Cobra Commander made his way through the main corridor of the

Terrordrome towards the Control Room when suddenly he felt a sharp pain

in his head. It was a feeling unlike he had ever experienced before

and it quickly brought him to his knees. He grabbed the sides of the

helmet in response and soon removed the armor plated device from his

head. He screamed in such agony that two Cobra officers came running

from down the corridor when they heard him.

Not many people had seen the Commander without his mask, and the

two officers were reluctant to look at him, whether he was injured or

not. They bent down to help him, to see what the problem was, but they

could see nothing. Suddenly a stream of dark red blood emerged from

his left ear that shot out all over the corridor floor. The two

officers jumped back in reaction. One of the men finally spoke.

Commander, are you OK?

Cobra Commander continued to scream in agony clutching his two

ears in tremendous pain. He could not answer the trooper and the two

men looked to one another, finally grabbed their leader by his arms and

carried him down the corridor towards the infirmary. One of the

officers grabbed a communicator from his pocket with his remaining

hand. Destro, this is Kilgard, we are taking Cobra Commander to the

Infirmary. Were not sure what is wrong with him but he is in a great

amount of pain

There was a short pause before an answer emerged from the device.

Ill meet you there

The huge G.I.Joe aircraft carrier known as the USS Flagg moved

through the water at a cruising speed of 25 knots. Her deck and

insides were full of G.I.Joe planes, tanks, troops and weaponry of all

sorts. The mighty ship had never been loaded down with so much weight,

but she pushed through the cold blue water with near ease. Off her

starboard and port sides were two United States battleships, which

escorted the Joe aircraft carrier as protection in case of troubles

before their arrival at Cobra Island.

On the bridge of the floating battle fortress General Hawk, Duke,

Flint and Beach Head conversed with the ships commander officer,

Admiral Ledger. The Admiral, dressed in his naval grab, sipped from a

cup of coffee as he listened to Hawk.

Were going to try and get this over as simply and as quickly as

possible. My hope is that we will catch Cobra completely off guard and

a pounding from all points, from land, sea and air, will get this

conflict over before they have much of a chance to react.

Flint spoke up. That is if everything goes according to plan.

Im having a little difficulty believing we are just going to go in

there and mop the floor with these guys. I think theyre going to

fight us like a caged rat, or in this case, a caged snake

Duke rubbed his chin. It doesnt matter either way. Were

going in to slay that snake whether its in a cage or coming at us for

the killing bite. The mission will be completed.

The Admiral smiled and put his coffee down. I like the sound of

that Duke. No nonsense, no bullshit. Just out there to get it done.

Hawk smiled and then turned to Beach Head. You only have about

an hour to find Lifeline and Roadblock before this starts. Once the

bombs start dropping, there wont be much we can do for you

Beach Head was quick to reply. I understand General Ill get

our boys back safe and sound before you start laying waste to that

Island

Excellent Hawk looked at his watch. We still have another

couple of hours. Make your final preparations and lets get this dam

thing over with once and for all

Hawk turned from the other men and walked out and onto the

bridges exterior deck. The cold blowing wind felt good and it somehow

calmed his tense nerves. The conflict ahead worried him, but he knew

it was something that needed to happen. Hopefully, he thought, this

would be his last battle, and he could finally retire and spend his

summers at that small cottage he bought with nothing better to do than

fish the day away. It brought a smile to his face.

Roadblock and Lifeline could see the corridor floor below them

through a grate in the air conditionings ductwork. Roadblock looked

to Lifeline. Youre sure this is where the big snake rests? he asked

with a whisper.

Lifeline nodded his head in agreement. If I would have to

guess, I would say yes. From previous reports this is Serpentors

former chambers and I would guess out of spite that Cobra Commander

took it for his own

Roadblock didnt look all that impressed. I suppose if you have

to make a guess, that place would be best The big man took one last

look through the grate before kicking it open. The two Joes then

jumped down onto the corridor floor. Cobra Commanders quarters were

before them, but before they could attempt to enter, Lifeline was

struck from behind and crashed hard to the floor as blood trickled down

the back of his neck. Roadblock turned but before he could react he

himself was struck hard in the face. The strong and hard blow hit him

directly in the chin but it did not produce the desired effect Firefly

thought it would.

A smile appeared Roadblocks face. Is this some kind of joke?

he asked as Firefly took several steps back. Youre gonna have to do

better than that

Firefly pondered what to do. He wanted to take the two men alive

and see what they were up to before he turned them over to either Cobra

Commander or Destro, but this wasnt going to be easy. Before Firefly

could draw his gun, Roadblock connected with a large shot to his face.

The Cobra agent was about to hit the ground but Roadblock scooped him

up, lifted him above his head and tossed him a good five feet before he

finally hit the hard corridor floor.

Firefly was in pain, but he somehow forced himself to rise back

to his feet. He again went for his gun, but soon realized it was gone.

Roadblock took notice, and with eyes alone, the two men frantically

searched for the missing weapon until they both noticed it had come to

rest near Lifelines right hand.

The Joe Paramedic was just coming to and through his groggy eyes

could see the Cobra weapon near his hand. When he looked up and saw

the two adversaries looking at him, he knew, right then and there, his

and Roadblocks fate rested in whether or not he was going to pick up

that gun.

Even putting one of his fingers on that gun disgusted Lifeline to

his core. He would rather stick his hand in a vat of acid than come

into contact with the shiny black device in front of him.

Pick it up! screamed Roadblock, but Lifeline could not. He

could only stare at the gun and was seemingly frozen from motion.

Firefly lunged towards the medic but Roadblock was ready and

caught the Cobra with an elbow to his jaw that sent him back to the

floor. Firefly was not so quick to rise this time. He did however

manage to mutter some words through his bloody teeth. Utterly

pathetic. A soldier who wont use a gun

Roadblock bent down to grab the weapon but felt something at the

back of his head. He knew it was another gun and he slowly rose back

to a standing position. He turned around to see Destro pointing the

weapon directly in his face. Your friend may be leery of firing a

weapon Roadblock but as you can imagine, I am not

Lifeline stood up. Were not here to fight you Destro We just

wanted to speak with Cobra Commander. We have some information

concerning Cobra La and a possible hoax concerning the Commanders

origins

Although he was intrigued by the comment, the arms dealer

laughed. You came here to talk. Thats hilarious

Destro wasnt having any of it and he motioned for Roadblock to

raise his hands. Roadblock knew they were in trouble and the large man

appeared to be complying until he took a chance by pushing the weapon

away and launching a hard right punch directly into Destros golden

plated face. The hit sent Destro to his rear as he grasped the side of

his mask where now a large dent existed. Before Roadblock could

continue the attack, Firefly moved in front of him now holding the

original dropped gun.

This fights over big man. Dont even twitch or Im gonna shoot

you directly between the eyes Roadblock knew the Cobra agent was

right and there was nothing more he could do. As much as he hated to

admit it, there was no other choice but to surrender.

Destro entered the Terrordromes Infirmary and confronted the two

Cobra officers who had found the injured Cobra Commander. They took

notice of Destros change in appearance and one had to ask. Sir,

youve gone back to your silver mask?

Destro did not want to talk about it especially to these two low

ranking men, but did offer a response. My other mask is being

cleaned Destro knew that in reality Roadblock had damaged it beyond

use and he had decided to return to his old attire of the silver mask

and black leather suit. He continued pass the two men and entered the

room where the Commander was being attended to by three Cobra doctors.

Cobra Commander was unconscious on a bed in front of him as the

white jacketed physicians examined him. The one female doctor noticed

Destros entrance and turned to face him. Hes OK. Hes resting.

What in the hell happened? asked Destro.

The doctor moved to a small glass caged enclosure. This This

creature emerged from his ear. Its dead, but Ive never seen anything

like it and Ive seen some crazy stuff working around here

Destro looked at the deceased spider-like insect and could tell

immediately what it was. It was one of Golobulus mind controlling and

memory altering organic devices. The idea that this thing had been in

the Commanders mind interested Destro and it immediately got him

thinking. He was slowly putting the pieces of this proverbial puzzle

together. It was all starting to make sense now. Destro said no more,

turned and quickly left the Infirmary for he had other matters to

attend to.

Roadblock and Lifeline dangled by a six-inch thick rope that hung

from a horizontal post that extended off of the Terrordrome roof.

Destro walked to the buildings edge and looked down at the two Joes.

He raised his side arm and pointed it at the swinging rope taking aim.

Firefly approached from behind and Destro could he him chuckle.

Destros eyes remained focused on the rope. Something amusing

you Firefly? he asked.

Firefly placed his hands upon his hips. Why the circus-act

Destro? If youre going to kill them, then just kill them! Firefly

gazed down at the two Joes.

I thought that even you might see the benefit in provoking some

fear. Lifeline and Roadblock may yet have some Joe secrets to divulge

Firefly again spoke. If Ive learned anything about G.I.Joe is

that they dont reveal information so easily. Youre not going to get

any secrets from them Destro. You might as well drop them now

Roadblock looked up at Destro and Firefly and if looks could kill

the two Cobras would now be mere dust. If Destro was trying to scare

him, Roadblock thought, he was far from accomplishing his task. He

just wished they would drop them and let it be done. He turned to

Lifeline, but his close friend did not have an expression of fear or

sadness. It looked to Roadblock that Lifeline was disappointed.

Cobra Commander awoke in the Infirmary bed. He immediately

reached for his face, believing his mask was gone, but soon realized

his head was draped in his jet black hood. He looked around to get his

bearings ultimately realizing where he was as the female physician

approached him.

The Cobra Leader was not impressed. Shut up you fool! What

happened to me? Where is Destro?

The smile quickly vanished from the doctors face as she

attempted to explain to Cobra Commander what had happened to him. And

Destro? he asked again.

Two Joes were captured outside of your quarters. I would guess

hes dealing with them

Cobra Commander thought for a moment and could not ascertain why

two Joes would be at Terrordrome and why they would be trying to get to

his quarters. Was this an assassination attempt? Had G.I.Joe lowered

themselves to do such a thing? His eyes returned to the doctor.

Do you know which Joes he captured? the Commander asked.

The Cobra doctor thought about it for a second. I believe it

was I think their names were Roadblock and Lifeline. Yes, Im sure

it was them

Even by his eyes alone the doctor could tell this baffled him.

Lifeline? The thought of assassination quickly left his mind. The

Commander then remembered his video monitoring system and that it would

have taped the corridor outside of his quarters where the capture took

place. Cobra Commander rose from the bed, brushed by the doctor and

left the Infirmary. He was going to find out what exactly was going on

and he headed to his quarters and the surveillance equipment that would

hopefully give him his answers.

Lifeline and Roadblock swayed back and forth in the late

afternoon sky as Destro and Firefly watched on. Although they faced

certain death, Lifeline was prepared to get his words out and explain

exactly why they were there. Destro, you need to listen to me. Im

not sure if you already know this, but Cobra Commander was biologically

altered to look like a citizen of Cobra La. Cobra La in its entirety

was a biological creation. His whole history may have been rewritten

to somehow validate the existence of Cobra La and its false history

The news surprised Firefly and he looked to Destro, who, even

through the metal mask, did not look so. Roadblock was quick to cut

in. I think our silver bullet faced friend knows a bit more about

this than hes letting on

Lifeline couldnt help but agree. He thought that such seemingly

outlandish claims would be laughed at, as Destro had briefly, but not

genuinely, done back in the corridor, but the Cobra arms dealer had a

completely serious look upon his face.

Lifeline ignored the uncomfortable feeling of blood continuing to

rush to his head and spoke up yet again. We need to get this resolved

Destro. Im not sure what kind of game youre playing, but Cobra

Commander needs to know his true past

The roof door suddenly swung open wide and Cobra Commander walked

out and onto the steel Terrordrome deck. His armored suit was gone,

and he was now outfitted in his dark black hooded mask and garb.

Golden stripes outlined the contours of the suit and the frays that

extended of its bright shoulder pads moved about in the strong wind.

Destros head swung around. Commander! Why arent you in the

Infirmary?

The Commander moved towards Destro and immediately drew a

handgun. Before the weapons dealer could react with his own weapon

Cobra Commander had the pistol to his head.

What are you doing? yelled Destro almost frantically.

Firefly took a step forward, but the Commander drew another

handgun and pointed it at him. Stay out of this Firefly! This is

between me and my so called most trusted advisor! Cobra Commander was

obviously angry and Destro and Firefly could tell no one was going to

come between him and some answers. The leader of Cobra could trust no

one and if it meant pointing a gun to Destros temple to acquire the

answers he desired then that was the way it had to be. Firefly

cautiously took several steps back.

The Commander turned back to Destro. What were you planning on

doing Destro, getting rid of perhaps the only two people who could

reveal the truth?

Destro ran his fingers along his metallic chin as the Commander

lowered the weapon pointed at Firefly and removed a small disk from his

pocket. Yes I know Destro I saw the footage from the corridor and

what the Joes came here to do. I knew that you had more information

than you were revealing about those photographs. The nave Cobra

Commander of the past is gone Destro

The weapon was still at Destros head. Although it may give me

a severe headache Commander, my mask is bulletproof A smirk

developed on Destros face.

The Commander lowered the gun to Destros chest. That maybe so

Destro, but I know there is nothing but skin and blood between the

barrel of this gun and your heart! You like showing off that

impressive chest of yours a little too much

The smirk vanished from Destros face. So be it then Commander.

Perhaps the truth should finally be known You must realize however,

that I do not know everything that you think I do and the information

that I do have was only withheld by me for my own safety, at least at

first, and then later for leverage. When Serpentor and later Golobulus

took control of Cobra the information I knew about you could have cost

me my life and when you later returned to power I knew that my position

within Cobra was in serious jeopardy, and such knowledge could prove

valuable if I needed to use it

What is it exactly that you know Destro? asked Cobra Commander.

Lifeline, who still dangled off the Terrordromes side, spoke up.

Hes going to tell you that Cobra La was a farce. That it was all a

creation

Destro refused to respond to the Joe and took a deep breath.

Well Destro? again asked Cobra Commander.

Finally Destro opened his mouth. When Serpentor took control

of Cobra he ordered me to examine your past to learn as much about you

as I could. As leader of Cobra, you made sure to keep your past as

secret as possible so there was much to be discovered, or so I thought.

It was nearly impossible to find any information about you prior to

your creation of Cobra

The Commander interrupted. You said nearly impossible

Destro continued. It almost seemed as if someone tried to erase

your past, but whoever this might have been, underestimated me I

eventually found some records concerning your deceased wife Marissa and

your son Billy

The Commander lowered the weapon from Destros head and his eyes

went to the floor. Billy? Yes, Billy, my son I do remember him

The Commander collected his foggy thoughts and looked back to Destro

who continued to speak.

As Lifeline said, this Cobra La was not as Golobulus led us to

believe.

Again Lifeline interjected. The people of Cobra La, including

yourself were human beings all along. Everything in those mountains,

the people, the creatures and even the plant life was biologically

created

Destro cut in. You used to have a wife, a child, and you even

sold used cars for a living! Destro laughed at the thought. But I

said nothing. By the time I had acquired the information, Serpentor

had lost interest. I kept what I knew to myself, but I placed the two

photos you discovered in your file just incase Serpentor wished to

reexamine your past again

Cobra Commander interrupted. But, if you knew this, when Cobra

aligned with Cobra La, you must have realized that something was wrong!

Surely I did! When Golobulus claimed you worked for him and

that you came from some ancient civilization I knew it was a lie, but

events were proceeding too quickly. I knew if I spoke out against

Golobulus, then I would surely be the next to be infected with the

spores. So I did nothing

The thought angered Cobra Commander and he again raised the gun

and he pointed it at Destros silver cranium. So as I stood in a mock

trial, you did nothing! You knew it was a lie but you did absolutely

nothing! he screamed.

I was playing my own hand Commander! Now Destro was yelling.

You would have done the exact same thing! Before I knew it, Golobulus

was talking about victory and he had the means to achieve it! Although

the idea of mutating and killing billions of people was not ideal,

Golobulus was poised to lead Cobra to world domination!

Roadblock smiled and had to join in. He wouldnt dare, because

he had a scare

Destro was not amused by the comment. If I was in your

situation Roadblock I wouldnt say much. You are but a few rope

strands away from the ground beneath you...

These revelations had not satisfied Cobra Commander just yet.

But I still dont understand I have memories of Cobra La and my

Lifeline explained. The memories were more than likely

implanted there by Golobulus

They were planted there. Planted by the same kind of creature

they used on Dr. Mindbender. Thats why you were in the Infirmary.

The creature apparently decided to leave its residence in your brain.

Lifeline continued. The physical changes must have been created

in a similar manner. If I were to guess Cobra Commander, he needed you

for one thing, to validate his claim as supreme ruler. That is why he

erased your past and created a new one. Once his title was assured

within the Cobra hierarchy he could simply dispose of you.

Cobra Commander was shaking his head. Yes, yes, it does make

sense It makes so much sense! Golobulus used me! He used me to get

Cobra!

Destro folded his arms. As the Cobra La pods shot into space

and humanity as we knew it was on the brink of destruction I realized I

had to learn the truth about this Golobulus. I did some research and

discovered that he was in fact a man by the name of Dr. Leonard Golob.

In the mid 1960s, Golob was the world-wide key figure in biological

studies. When he began intricate experimentation with human beings

however, he quickly became an outcast and was sought after by federal

and international authorities for numerous atrocities he had committed

during his research. He escaped capture and apparently went into

hiding in the Himalayas where over the next twenty-five years he

created the society of Cobra La with his knowledge and expertise.

Whether he wanted to conquer humankind out of revenge or because he

truly wanted to rule the world I do not know

And so, finally everything is exposed Maybe I can put this

clouded distortion of my past back together claimed the Commander.

And me? asked Destro.

The Commander contemplated the two options, to shoot or to let

him live. As much as he wanted to pull the trigger, something inside

his head was telling him not to. He knew how valuable Destro was, even

when taking into account what he had done, and his business sense made

him drop his weapon to his side.

Its time to rebuild Cobra to what it once was Destro Its

time to make it strong again! Its no secret were on the verge of

collapse, and I cannot do it alone I need you Destro

Destro was now deep in his thoughts, but he soon came to the

realization that he had no alternatives. He could either accept the

Commanders offer or invite certain death. We will make Cobra strong

again Commander Just like it once was Destro extended his hand and

the Commander shook it.

Firefly stepped forward shaking his head in disgust. He quickly

changed the subject. Can we drop the Joes now? he asked pointing to

Roadblock and Lifeline who still dangled off of the side of the

Terrordrome.

Release them! yelled Destro as he pointed to a nearby Cobra

Viper. The Commander however, was quick to interrupt.

No! Let them go They came here to reveal the truth to me and

on this one and only time I will reciprocate

Firefly laughed out loud by the order, but offered no argument.

Destro and the Commander walked to the roofs edge and watch as the

Cobra agent lowered the two men to the muddy ground. As Lifeline and

Roadblock ran off into the forest Joe bombs began to fall on the

Terrordrome behind them.

Time to get the groove and move! yelled Roadblock. Lifeline

turned and took one last look at Cobra Commander standing atop the

Terrordrome before he and Roadblock entered the emerging darkness of

the forest before them. The Joe physician tripped over a tree root,

but Roadblock was quick to grab his arm before he could fall. Lifeline

turned around to see the Terrordrome already burning.

Cobra Commander, Destro and Firefly quickly made their way into

the Cobra structure evading the falling bombs. They rushed down a

flight of stairs and through several corridors until they were within

the central control room. The huge monitors on the walls in front of

them brought up images of nearly every square inch of the island. The

Commander watched on as his anti-aircraft weaponry rose from the Earth,

as his troops merged into formation and as Cobra land based artillery

poured out from warehouses.

I guess General Hawk has finally realized two of his boys were

out after their curfew

Destro was shaking his head no. I dont think so Commander.

This is a massive Joe force. I think we may be facing an invasion!

He looked to the Cobra leader. Well Commander, what do we do? he

asked.

Order the Hiss tanks around the Terrordrome and get the

Nightravens and Rattlers into the air Leave no Joe plane, tank or

soldier untouched!

And your new found friends? sarcastically asked Firefly who was

seated at a control position in front of the two.

and the two HISS tanks. Flint and Beach Head emerged from the lead

Vamp.

Flints boots sunk deep in the sand as he turned to the Joe

fourth in command. Alright Beach Head, this is where we go our own

ways

Beach Head raised his weapon into the air. Good luck Flint! Yo

Joe! he screamed as he and his team headed off into the forest. As

soon as they were out of sight, Flint jumped back onto the Vamp and

motioned for the land forces to move ahead. Beach Head would make a

discrete move for the Terrordrome while Flint and crew would take out

the Islands land forces from coast to coast.

Dukes Skystriker had just shot down a Nightraven, when the

mission leader turned his head to his brother. Falcon, take the

controls, Im going down there to get our boys

But Duke, Hawk ordered Beach Head to lead the rescue! Falcon

spoke loud over the mighty jet engines.

I know little brother, but I need to do this

Lieutenant Falcon shook his head, but he knew this was an

argument he was not going to win. He braced himself as Duke opened the

hatch, ejected from the plane and released his parachute as he

descended to the island below. Falcon closed the hatch and took lead

of the Joe air force.

Beach Head and his team were on the outskirts of the Cobra

Terrordrome perimeter. Beach Head quickly took notice of someone

dropping from the sky, and as he raised his weapon to take aim, he soon

realized it was the blonde haired Joe mission commander who then landed

only several feet from him. As he removed the chute Duke directed his

words to Beach Head. I dont want to hear it Beach Head. Im leading

this rescue. Like it or dont like it Duke, dressed in his usual

tan colored military shirt and swamp green army pants, cocked his

weapon and motioned for the team to move onwards.

Even though his green ski-like mask covered much of Beach Heads

face, the other Joes watching him could see the anger beneath it.

Beach Head, as always, had respect for the chain of command, but in

this instance he had to say something. If this mission gets changed

one more time Duke, I might as well pack up and go home Duke smiled,

padded the Joe on the back, and along with Spirit, Leatherneck,

Bazooka, Law, Tunnel Rat, Grid Iron and Lady Jaye moved ahead towards

the flame ridden Terrordrome.

Cobra Commander paced around the nearly silent control room

waiting for any word on the battle. He moved to Destro who was seated

in front of a control screen. The weapons supplier pushed several

buttons on a panel in front of him until the image of Wild Weasel

appeared on the screen.

Wild Weasel was the Cobra Air Commander and as usual was

outfitted in a deep red flight suit with his face covered by a round

helmet and mask of the same color. Only a jet-black visor allowed Wild

Weasel the ability to see his surroundings.

I need a status report Wild Weasel ordered Destro.

The Joes outnumber us three to one and we are barely holding our

ground. I dont know how long well be able to do even that.

Do what you can Wild Weasel. Well do what we can do from

here. replied Destro.
