February 2021 Revelations You are invited to the sanctuary as we resume in person worship on February 7 at 10:00am! Our worship committee has put together the appropriate protocols of mask wearing, hand sanitizing, staying 6 feet apart, etc. Look for details in our weekly email closer to time. We will continue with our live stream options as well on Facebook and Youtube. The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 17 this year. Our Ash Wednesday worship service will be in person that evening at 6:30pm in the sanctuary. This time of worship involves music, reflection on scripture, prayer and the imposition of ashes as a sign of our repentance and mortality. Let us enter into this holy season together as we prepare to make the journey once again to the cross and empty tomb. I will also offer a drive-throughimposition of ashes under the portico at 10:00am on the same day for anyone who would like to participate but is not yet comfortable worshipping in person. Simply drive under the portico any time between 10:00-11:00, and I will meet you there with the ashes. With Lenten grace, Rev. Amy On Wednesday, February 24 at 6:00, we will begin a 6- week in-person Bible study on the book of Ruth, using Dr. Sandra Richter's Epic of Eden: Ruth material. It includes a DVD component and a student study book. The book is about $15, depending on how many we order. If you want us to order a book for you, please contact Gloria in the church office to sign up by Feb 3. I may offer the same study at 11:00am on Thursdays if there is interest. There will not be an online option for this study because of the necessary DVD component. I look forward to sharing this informative and inspiring study with you from my favorite Old Testament scholar! Amy DEAR OGUMC CHURCH FAMILY, In Person Worship Sunday, February 7 10 am

Dear OGUMC Family, Thank you so very much to you ALL for your love, support, calls and prayers during my surgery, as well as for my speedy recovery. I look forward to seeing you again. I love you, Lori “L.A.” West OGUMC, Thank you so much for the prayer shawl, flowers, cards, goodies, calls and many prayers during my surgery and ongoing recovery. They have been such a blessing to us. We are thankful the surgery was successful, even though the surgeon told me I was a “strange case.” I know that will bring us laughs when it doesn’t hurt to do so! Though recovery is slow, we are thankful for each step in that direction. Our church family is so very special. Laura Hojem Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for all of the support you have given my family and me during the recent death of Gus. You have truly been the hands and feet of Christ and we have been truly blessed. We have felt the comfort and peace through your prayers. The texts, cards, calls, and food have been so overwhelming as our church family has come to our side. The women of the church went the extra mile providing the family with a delicious meal. God is good, all the time. With love, Maxyne Norwood and Family OGUMC Church Family, Thank you for your prayers and concerns from my recent surgery. Your prayers must be helping as I have made tremendous steps in my healing. Hopefully, I will be walking soon. Also, thanks for the beautiful Poinsettia arrangement. God Bless our Church, Larry Bullion

I am super excited to report that JAM will start back again on Wednesday nights! We will start February 3rd and go from 5:30-7:00 p.m. We have volunteers who have offered to cook up some brown bag type supper for the children. If anyone wants to contribute or donate food items for these meals, please let me know. The kids will eat from 5:30-6:00 p.m. and they will go to their classes for JAM time from 6:00–7:00 p.m. Parents please drop off and pick up your children at the FLC doors by the side parking lot. Any child, 3 years old to 5th grade, is invited to attend. Please text or email me to let me know if your child will be there for the first night on February 3rd, so we can get a head count for the meal.

Once again, I will prepare prayer cards for you to pick up during the Ash Wednesday service. Please consider taking one of these cards and pray for the child or youth that is listed on the card during Lent. Now more than ever, our children and youth need to be covered in prayer, so thank you in advance for participating in this program.

Our annual Pancake Supper fundraiser has

been postponed to a later date. However, plans are also in the works for the Easter Eggstravaganza and VBS. More information to come on these events.

Before I close, I would like to give a big shout out to all my volunteers & teachers. Anyone else who would like to assist with the children’s ministry, please let me know. We can find a spot for you too!

INTERCESSORY PRAYER MINISTRY

Happy New Year! I accepted the position of OGUMC’s Administrative Council Chair for 2021, which simply means I assist leadership at the church in collaboration with Rev. Amy. OGUMC is a light to the community by reaching out to all God’s people with the love of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19-20) to His disciples is to “Go ye into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation” (Mark 16:15).

T h is past N ovem be r /December, council members participated in a study by Tod Bolsinger. The premise centered on the historical journey of Lewis and Clark into uncharted territory. Discussion focused on

adaptive leadership, communication and always having OGUMC’s culture/mission in the center of all decisions. As Admin Chair, my priority is to create a safe space for council members to share ideas, learn from success or failure and adapt as needed to move OGUMC forward.

Our Mission. The Great Commission. Our Direction. God’s Path.

I ask that you pray for the OGUMC 2021 Administrative Council: Dempsey Amacker, John Bailey, Gloria Bynum, Suzell Cain, Jimmy Carpenter, Mary Ann Cox, Erin Dornan, Patrick Dornan, McKay Eaton, Kaycee Hairston, Danny McDaniel, Ray Pace, Roland Pimm, Jim Ratliff, Molly Reynolds, Brian Richardson, Amy Roller, Cindy Smith, Jamie Standland, Bobo Terrill, and Julie Viguerie.

We encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas with us as we begin to navigate 2021.

With love and service,

Erin Dornan

We extend our great appreciation and gratitude to our church leaders from 2020, especially those of you who have completed your time of service as committee chairs and ministry area leaders: Jeff Sims (PPRC), Lath Hairston (Trustees), Danny McDaniel (Admin Council), Julie Viguerie (Missions), the late Judith Biggert (Food Pantry), Bob Attkisson (Congregational Care), and Jane Boudreaux (Worship). We give thanks for your faithful service and willingness to use your gifts for the Lord.

Thank You and Happy Retirement! On behalf of OGUMC, we extend our well wishes to Eva Ratliff and Laureen Tuck, as they have decided to retire from our nursery staff.

For your many years of faithful service and love for the babies and children of OGUMC, we thank you! We love you and will miss you in the nursery! OGUMC Staff Parish Relations Committee

Hospitality Creed

Since hospitality means “love of a guest” and since Jesus said, “I was a stranger and you took me in,” I will always remember to…

Welcome others, especially the guest,

as though I was welcoming Jesus.

Receive no one merely as a stranger,

but rather as a dear friend.

Demonstrate through every means

available that my new friends are valued and an integral part of our fellowship.

I gladly join with others at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in affirming hospitality as an integral part of the Christian witness.

“Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8
