Gifts to the Chancellor’s Fund support projects across the whole University, directly influencing the lives of our students. More than 360 projects have benefited from the £2 million donated by our alumni.

The Chancellor’s Fund aims to • support our students by helping to

provide a rich and rewarding university experience;

• enhance the learning environment, by providing access to new technologies and improved facilities;

• develop excellence, by providing financial support for research and teaching and promoting academic developments;

• preserve the University’s heritage, enhancing the physical and cultural heritage of the University.

Gifts to the Fund will help to • Equip our students with skills beyond

their degree such as providing financial support for undergraduates who wish to participate in the Student Exchange Programme, encouraging more students to take this opportunity.

• Provide an innovative approach to learning like the pilot project in the School of Law to assess whether the use of Google Glass wearable technology can enhance the learning and teaching experience.

• Protect and reveal our history such as a grant to Archive Services which is enabling the development of the Gilmorehill Story website, an interactive resource revealing our architectural heritage and changing campus.

• Add something extra to the student experience for example supporting an undergraduate research project in Tanzania with the University of Dar es Salaam to look at ways of reducing the impact of environmental issues and achieve sustainable development.

Our Scholarships Funds provide life-changing opportunities for talented students.

We firmly believe that all talented students should have the opportunity to access a world-class Higher Education at the University of Glasgow, regardless of background or financial circumstances. Our Scholarships Funds ensure that students receive the support they need to excel. So, how can you help?

Talent Scholarships

Our Talent Scholarship scheme directly supports those students whose financial circumstances could prevent them taking up their place at University. Your donations can help some of the most academically outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students to change their lives.

Travel Scholarships

Travel Scholarships can support students in a huge variety of ways, from small scholarships for students attending UK conferences, to larger scholarships funding research trips and work placements overseas. Travel Scholarships enhance the academic and life experience of our students.

The Scholarships Funds welcome donations of any size, from small monthly donations to enhance existing scholarships, to single large donations for establishing new scholarships in perpetuity.

Donations can also be directed to our Postgraduate Scholarship Funds (overleaf) where you can support the subjects you care most about.

Our Postgraduate Scholarship Funds support ground-breaking research across each of the University’s four Colleges. Following in the footsteps of such scholarly greats as Adam Smith, Lord Kelvin and Edwin Morgan, today’s postgraduate students at Glasgow are shaping the world we live in.

The Hunterian Fund

The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow is Scotland’s oldest public museum.

Established in 1807, following the bequest of the collections of the eminent Scottish physician and obstetrician, William Hunter (1718-1783), it is home to one of the top five collections in Scotland with over a million items ranging from meteorites to mummies as well as major collections by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, James McNeill Whistler, the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists.

Every gift to The Hunterian helps us care for our superb bequest and enables us to make our collections accessible to the general public and for educational use. In the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, we are undertaking research that will not only inform future generations of students and academics, but can also have a positive impact on the lives of millions of people in the UK and around the world.

Postgraduate students are at the heart of much of the research taking place in the College, and play an integral role in the design and execution of many of our research projects.

In the West of Scotland, cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke are the major

causes of disability, poor health and death. In our Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences, researchers have identified markers for these diseases which enable earlier detection and provide a more detailed understanding of the causes of many cardiovascular diseases.

Our researchers are also working to help eradicate infectious disease in some of the poorest countries in the world. By supporting our Global Health and Biodiversity Fund, you can help us to build on the legacy of Dr David Livingstone, by working collaboratively with local clinicians to improve diagnoses and treatment of some of the most common diseases.

The Beatson Pebble Appeal

The Beatson Pebble Appeal was launched in 2007, to raise £10 million to build a new cancer research facility in Glasgow. Thanks to the generous support of over 3,000 donors, the centre is now open.

The Beatson Pebble Appeal continues to help us achieve the vision of being in a position to treat cancer patients individually, with customised drugs, targeted treatments and diagnostic options that are less toxic and more effective. Brain Tumour Research Fund

The Brain Tumour Research Fund supports research in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. On-going and proposed projects include research investigating whether new drugs can be combined with radiotherapy to improve brain tumour cure rates, and clinical research using MRI scanning to predict where brain tumours are most likely to recur after radiotherapy.

Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre

The Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre has brought Glasgow’s expert clinicians and researchers together. This centre of excellence for research into leukaemia also provides a much-needed translational research laboratory, ensuring that patients, clinicians and researchers alike benefit from some of the country’s most advanced facilities and equipment.

The James Herriot Scholarship Fund

Through the Vet Fund you can support the James Herriot Scholarship Fund, and enable us to award scholarships to excellent undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students who, through financial constraints, may otherwise not be able to study at Glasgow. These scholarships are crucial in providing opportunity to the most promising individuals from home and around the world, helping us to develop the clinical academic leaders of the future and to train a new generation equipped to tackle future global challenges in animal health and welfare.

Alf Wight, who wrote as James Herriot, is one of Glasgow Vet School’s most famous

alumni who through his work gave much prominence to the veterinary profession that continues today.

The Small Animal Hospital and Weipers Equine Centre

Your support to the Small Animal Hospital and Weipers Equine Centre will ensure our vets of tomorrow will be training in the most advanced surroundings with access to some of the best specialist vets in their field. As an exempt charity, the University of Glasgow / University of Glasgow Trust (The University) can reclaim basic rate tax on qualifying donations from UK tax payers.
