Claire loves acting and she auditioned for the lead role in the school play, but she wasn’t successful. She has been offered a main part, but not the lead. She is feeling miserable, hasn’t confirmed if she will take the part she’s been offered and is even talking about giving up on acting as she’s not good enough at it. She is planning to apply to drama school so this would be a big change of plan. 2. Tom has just turned 14 and wants to get a part-time job. He has handed in his CV to local shops and businesses and even called a few, however, no-one wants him. Some business owners have said he’s too young and others have just ignored him. He has said that he might as well just give up trying as no-one wants to employ him. 3. Nuala and Matt have been good friends for years. Matt told Nuala in confidence that he liked a girl in his class and wanted to ask her out. Nuala accidently told another friend about this who then told the girl he likes. Matt is furious with Nuala and won’t speak to her. Nuala has decided she doesn’t care and will just give up Matt’s friendship. 4. Ali has been playing football since he was 5, practises at every opportunity and is his team’s star player. Recently, his team was being watched by some talent scouts from professional clubs. They were impressed by Ali, however, he heard one say that he’s too short so won’t be any good in the longer term as the best players are tall. Ali has become withdrawn and depressed as he feels that his hard work has all been for nothing.
