School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week This week is School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week in NSW public schools. It's a chance to honour the contribution to children of the support staff that do administrative and support work in school offices, classrooms, libraries and school grounds. They keep our schools ticking over, just as the theme of this year's SASS Recognition Week – Our jobs, Your children, Their future– suggests. Thank you Mrs Tyrrell, Ms Warren, Mrs Kavanagh-Hopper, Miss Mills, Mrs Newbold, Mrs Wallis and Mr Fraser.
Track Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all the students who went to the Zone Track Carnival last Wednesday at Greenway Park, Cherrybrook. Our students showed great sportsmanship and had a wonderful day representing Glenorie. Congratulations to these students who will go on to represent Beecroft PSSA in the Sydney North Primary Athletics Championships on 16 October. Myles W – Long Jump Mitchell C – 100m 8yrs Jack P – 100m 10yrs Allegra Z – 100m 10yrs
Thanks to Mr Gornalle (setting up the tent) for attending the carnival with the children.
Gold & Silver Assembly On Friday, 30 August at 2:40pm during assembly we will present the Gold and Silver awards. Please join us as we acknowledge your children’s achievements.
Enrolments Enrolments are now being processed for 2020. We have already a huge number of new enrolments for next year. If you have children who are due to start Kinder in 2020, who live only in Glenorie, please enrol them before the end of this term. Out of area families must apply to their local school. Thanks.

Prefect Induction Galston High School The captains and I attended the Galston High School Prefect Induction this week. It is so nice to see Glenorie
students being elected as the School Captains of our local High School year after year.
Lost Property Last Week the staff attempted to distribute a lot of the lost property which has been left in the lost property tub. Over 75% of the items were not labelled with student names. PLEASE LABEL EVERY ITEM OF CLOTHING THAT YOUR CHILD WEARS TO SCHOOL. At the end of this term we will be selling off (or donating to the uniform shop) any unclaimed item of clothing. Please make an attempt to retrieve any clothing that your child has lost at school (lost property tub is located near the office side door).
Stage 3 is Off to Camp! On Tuesday 10th – Friday 13th September our Year 5 and Year 6 students will be off to the snow and Canberra with Mr Ure, Mrs Black and Miss Turner. The children are sure to have a fantastic time at the snow, plus much, much more. It is going to be a great four-day program. All camp payments need to be finalised by the 30th August.
The Tell Them From Me Parent feedback survey I am delighted that this term our school, like many others in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me Parent feedback survey. The Partners in Learning parent survey is for parents and carers of school students. It is designed to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parents/carers and school by gaining insights into parent/carer and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent/carer voice on school support of learning and behaviour. The survey results help to build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements. It complements the student and teacher surveys.
How does it work? Parents/carers take the survey online in their own time. The survey usually takes less than 15 minutes and is anonymous. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents The survey is a great opportunity for our parents to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how they feel the school supports learning, school safety and parent participation at school. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual parents from their responses. The survey must be conducted online. Please use the link below to complete the survey at home or you can use your mobile phone to access and complete the survey via this link:
https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/7jqxq
The survey is available from Thursday 29th August (Week 6, Term 3) to Friday 25th October (Week 2, Term 4). The survey has been emailed to all parents this week with the link so it is more accessible. We need as many parents as possible to complete this survey so the information is useful, so please take the time to complete the survey. Thank you.

Swimming Scheme We would like to thank all of the Year 2-6 parents who have sent back their expressions of interest for their children to participate in the Special Swimming Scheme (Week 7 & 8 Term 4). Please be advised that some vacancies still exist. If you would like your child to participate (up to year 6), please contact Mrs Harmon (Assistant Principal) on 96521237. Thanks.
What if my child is absent from school? Parents must provide an explanation to the school within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence. This can be done on our school App or a note written to the teacher explaining why your child/ren missed school. If the school does not receive an explanation of the absence from the parents within 7 days, the office will send a letter to parents within 2 school days after the 7-day timeframe has elapsed. Exemptions can no longer be granted for holidays and travel (regardless of reason). Please refer to the link below on Compulsory School attendance: https://education.nsw.gov.au/wellbeing-and-learning/media/documents/attendance-behaviour-engagement/attendance/attendance_parents.pdf
Happy Father’s Day We would like to wish all of our dads a wonderful day this Sunday. It is a day where you can relax, read the morning paper, potter in the garden, perhaps have a round of golf or go fishing (the things you do not normally get to do because you are far too busy organising the family and household). Thank you to Mrs Powell and our wonderful fundraising team for organising all those wonderful gifts. Have a happy day!
Stewart House School Clothing Appeal Stewart House has been working in partnership with The Smith Family for more than 60 years. Their recycling operation helps schools in NSW run clothing drives to collect good quality clothes and accessories for resale or export in Smith Family stores. Our School clothing drive starts this week and will finish on 23 September. You will receive a bag home today.
Keep Us Informed… Due to the fact that we are planning for 2020, it is extremely important that we are aware of any of your planned changes. If you are leaving the Glenorie area, and therefore changing schools next year, would you please inform Mrs Pearce in writing? Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
REMINDER: All students must have hats to attend PSSA.
Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning! Lyn Pearce Principal

FRIDAY 30th August 2019
Dear Parents,
Jersey Day was introduced to our community in 2015 after Nathan Gremmo was
tragically lost in a road accident. It aims to raise awareness of organ and tissue
donation.
If your child wishes to participate in this day, they will be permitted to wear a
‘Jersey’ on Friday 30th August 2019. A winter-style jersey can be worn over the
top of the sports shirt or a summer-style jersey can be worn instead of the sports
shirt. If you do not have a suitable jersey, then normal sports uniform should be
worn.
Visit https://www.jerseyday.com.au/ for more information
regarding the Gremmo family and the DONATE LIFE
organisation.

Tuesday’s P&C Meeting
Thank you to the parents that attended our P&C Meeting on Tuesday night. A lot of important items where
discussed and I thank everyone that attended for coming along and giving their valued opinions.
One important item discussed was the option of having a Paid Canteen Manger to run and mange the canteen.
We have knowledge that some volunteers are giving up a lot of their valuable time and that the role needs a
consistent and well-organised individual to ensure it can remain open and service our school community.
Attached to this newsletter is the job description. Any questions can be directed to Dennise Williams, Kelly
Kearns or Libby Cuza. A full assessment of all written applications will be done and then followed by interviews.
The person we are seeking is one that can demonstrate the essential criteria but most importantly can understand
and work well with the volunteers in our school community as you need to work hand in hand.
