Bending loss insensitive single mode optical fibre

The core region of the optical fibre is designed to tightly guide the light

G.657A – Beneficial for pigtails and patchcords in a confined space and to protect the network from potential signal loss caused by accidental tight bends

G.657B - Beneficial (in & near the exchange) for long distance applications using high power (Raman) lasers to minimise the risk of high power damage

RISKThe life time of the optical fibre can be compromised when it is held in a tight bend due to the tension on the outer surface of the optical fibre

Brand-Rex Focus

“To be recognised as a leader in providing innovative installation solutions that will allow broadband access, via fibre optic technologies, to overcome many of the perceived cost barriers that exist today”

Page 22: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Broadband Explosion…………..

Today's communication networks carry more information at higher speeds than ever before, the needs for tomorrow will be even more demanding. The technology to meet these needs is changing and the use of optical fibre in metropolitan and access networks is growing rapidly.

Page 23: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

The Complete Solution

Blolite+ is an integrated solution for the provision of air blown fibre infrastructures in the telecom outside plant arena.

Blolite+ is a trademark of Brand-Rex and the system is being jointly marketed by Brand-Rex

The joint approach enables customers to purchase an integrated system safe in the knowledge of system compatibility and performance.

Page 24: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Air Blown Fibre

Air blown fibre technology is a patented alternative to traditional

methods of installing a means of transmission into datacom /

telecom networks.

The patent is held by British Telecom and licensed to installers

through various sources.

The technology uses compressed air to lift and carry cables into

preinstalled ducts using specialist equipment and modified cables.

Page 25: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Benefits of a Micro Ducted Air Blown Fibre System

Using an micro ducted air blown fibre solution such as Blolite+ offers the investor a highly flexible and easily up-gradeable ducted network which can be simply populated with fibre as network demand dictates.

Throughout the life of the network the system remains flexible due to its modular format, offering the ability for structured investment in service as subscriber demand increases

“A future proof fibre on demand network”

Page 26: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Why Blolite+

Blolite+ has been developed specifically for the telecom outside plant environment, all products are designed to fit the system perfectly ensuring a future proof, modular and flexible telecom metro or access network which is both reliable and cost effective.

“BRAND –REX is the only manufacturer able to produce ABF technology for Outside plant and INSIDE Building application!!!!”

Market Sectors

The Blolite+ Air Blown Fibre Infrastructure Solution will offer

quantifiable benefits to the asset owners in the following network

situations

Provision of Point to Point ConnectionsFor enterprises wishing to link buildings and provide an extension to their existing LAN.

For Enterprises wishing to have fixed links to carrier networks.

Provision of Campus IntranetFor enterprises wishing to create or upgrade a LAN environment within a

geographically bounded area.

Provision of Fibre To The Kerb / Fibre To The HomeFor carriers wishing to provide a fibre on demand infrastructure for the provision of

broadband service to small / medium enterprise or residential subscribers in an

unbounded geographic area.

Page 29: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Blolite+ - Deep Fibre Deployment Model

Blolite+ offers the ability to adopt the deferred cost benefit in deep fibre applications, by installing duct only on day one. The opportunity is equally valid for non air blown fibre access delivery networks, providing the ability to deliver fibre to distribution points.

Page 30: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Blolite+ - Access Deployment Model

The access network is where Blolite+ delivers the clearest savings, demonstrated later in this presentation. The opportunity exists for either single MultiDuct products laid to the distribution point or a diminishing count multiway MultiDuct product. Both systems deliver quantifiable savings on both day one costs and ultimate cost irrelevant of market penetration, although the greatest saving are made on lower penetration levels.

Page 31: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Benefits of Blolite+Deferred Infrastructure Material Cost

When considering total unique infrastructure material costs, the use of

Blolite+ can return up to 75% reduction on day one investment.

The saving is achieved through the installation of only a duct

infrastructure on day one and then the subsequent supply of fibre as

network connections dictate.

Page 32: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Benefits of Blolite+

Reduced Cost Per Home Connected

When considering the unique infrastructure material cost per home connected, the use of Blolite+ can return savings of up to 49% once 35% connection of home passed is achieved and 27% once 65% connection penetration is achieved.

Even when 100% connection to an installed Blolite+ infrastructure is achieved the material costs are 0.5% lower than traditional methods.

Page 33: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical

Benefits of Blolite+

Increased Ability to Connect

The Blolite+ system offer the opportunity to connect subscribers where it would not other wise be environmentally or economically viable. Through the use of no dig solutions to bypass physical or environmental obstacles.

Air Blown Fibre

• Brand-Rex pioneered world’s first air blown fibre system – Blolite in partnership with BT over 20 years ago.

• Low cost micro-duct infrastructure deployed to support simple and speedy fibre deployment using compressed air installation system

• Allows networks to be easily and cost-effectively grown and upgraded over time with zero disruption to building infrastructure

• Rapid network recovery in the event of mechanical damage

Single Blown FibreThe optical fibre used for single fibre blowing takes standard single or multimode fibre and applies a unique and highly advanced coating to enhance ‘blowability’. Up to 8 single fibres can be blown into a 5.00mm duct over a distance of 500m, into Brand-Rex MicroDuct product and using the Brand-Rex IM2000 Blow Head. Blolite+ single blown fibres are suitable for use in either single circuit or single element fibre management product.

Blolite+ Product Range - Duct

The Blolite+ duct product range has been developed for use in a variety of environments, from the BOP (Bytes in Old Pipes) duct products designed for installation into existing sewer pipes to standard duct products for pulling or blowing into either subducts or direct burial applications

The standard product range has two construction variants, both with a LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) outer jacket. The basic product (STD) has an aluminium / polyethylene moisture barrier and the fully water blocked (WB) product, which is non metallic, has water-swellable tape and yarns to meet the system spec. for water penetration.

Blolite+ Product Range - FibreMicroCable

To facilitate the increase of fibre density in an air blown fibre infrastructure Brand-Rex have developed a range of micro design loose tube optical cables. These MicroCables are available in 2.50mm, 4.00mm and 6.00mm versions, offering up to 96 fibres in the 7.2mm version.

The MicroCables have been designed for installation into Brand-Rex MicroDuct products using the Brand-Rex IM3000 Blow Head. The MicroCables are based around standard loose tube optical cable designs and offer excellent mechanical, physical and environmental performance, meeting most IEC standards for optical cables.

Page 49: Gm Brand Rex Greek 2009 Optical
