News from the Garden
The Goulburn West Environmental Executive is excited to announce that the Goulburn
Garden Club will be working with them in our school garden. Ms Julie Elliott, a former
member of the Goulburn West staff and some other volunteers will be working with the
executive in the garden on a Friday. We started last Friday and had a great time getting
wet and dirty. It has been a while since we have been able to get into the garden and
now that we are starting from the beginning with soil improvement, seed and mulching
jobs, we are hoping that our wonderful school community will be able to help us with a
few things.
If possible, we would like:
Sheep or cow manure
Any in-season seedlings that you may be able to spare
Packets of seeds
Egg Cartons
Thank you in advance and look for our regular updates in the newsletter.
Happy Gardening.

WASTE AUDIT
The environmental committee conducted a waste audit of the playground bins
today. We are investigating ways to reduce the amount of waste our school
produces.
In one area alone, we counted over 110 pieces of food waste and 280 food
wrappers.

Kindergarten and Year 1 Violin Programme
Violin group tuition will be starting shortly for interested Kindergarten
and Year 1 students at Goulburn West Public School. (Individual lessons
will continue to be available for students of all ages)
Why learn the violin?
The violin is one of the most loved musical instruments and is a fundamental part of
classical, folk, jazz, country and many world music traditions. The violin is also a social
instrument - there are always opportunities for violinists to join with others in music-
making! In particular, Goulburn West violinists have, for several years, had the
opportunity to play in the Schools Orchestra and perform at the Opera House as well as
in school ensembles.
When are violin lessons held?
Violin lessons will initially be held twice a week, to get students and groups started
and then on a weekly basis, usually during afternoon recess. (Students will have the
opportunity to eat and have a short break as well during classes).
How much do violin lessons cost?
The cost will depend upon the size of the group, but will be between $9 and $13 per
lesson. Lessons will run for approximately 45 minutes.
Acquiring a violin
Violins will be provided for hire at a cost of about $30/month.
Getting started
Getting started on the violin is easy. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions
at all or to register your interest:
