The Grade 10 class reports: Despite the rain and thecold we never lost our enthusiasm as we took part inthe Germany Exchange Programme preparationweekend. We had a lot to discuss and prepare, andSt Cathryn’s was the ideal venue for the fun time wehad learning thatwe can cook,we can trust each otherand we need to persevere in whatever tasks face us.Welearnedmoreaboutourclassmatesandaboutsomeof ‘the little things’ one finds in Germany that don’tappear in guide-books. Thanks to our teachers, wenow have a clearer picture and understanding ofwhere we will be going in Germany, and what we willbe doing there. We can’t wait for our exchange part-

ners toarriveat theendof thisweek,andweareeager-ly counting the days before we fly to Germany.

Hermannsburg’sOlympiade teamwasupbright andearly on Sunday, to leave for Johannesburg at 05h00.After an uneventful journey, they were able to settleinto their accommodation for the week before attend-ing the opening ceremony of the ‘Sport Olympiade derDeutschen Schulen im Südlichen Afrika’ on Sundayevening. This gala event presages a busy week of ath-letics, swimming and various ball sports.

We wish the team and their coaches all the best asthey compete in this prestigious bi-annual competi-tion.

Hermannsburg Happenings

The five senses were what we looked (and heard and felt andtasted and smelled) at in the last two weeks and, as part of that, the optometrist and audiologist came to visit our school. We hadthe opportunity to have our ears and eyes tested and had lotsof fun putting on the big glasses when the eye doctor checkedif we could see properly and then, when our ears were tested,we had to clap each time we heard the birdie making a noisein our ears.

Now that we all understand how important our five senses are,we’re moving into our next theme, which is My Home. And, ofcourse, with Easter coming up soon, we’ll be learning all aboutthe Easter message and, perhaps, the Easter Bunny may evenfind his way to school.
