We move in first to set up the site, creating

temporary and permanent access roads, leveling

surfaces, trenching for cables and drainage and

laying concrete foundations for the transformers.

We also provide our clients with ‘site welfare’ –

site cabins, generators, fuel bowsers, water

tanks and 4×4 off-road utility vehicles to provide

essential facilities for temporary set ups.

While the installation is being worked on by

contractors, we can offer advisory and problem

solving services – and when it is finished and the

contractors move on, we move back in to clean

up the site to make it neat, tidy and landscaped.

The same high quality service is available for

smaller solar farm projects.

Our aim is to work with new clients in this field

and provide them with the level of support no

other groundworks company can offer.

Our mission is to provide a multitude of groundwork &

civil engineering services to our customers, to support

them with building solar and battery energy storage,

enhancing the potential for commercial renewable

energy and energy efficiency projects.

In September 2014, we were the main groundworks

contractor for the UK’s first utility scale battery storage

unit. Six months later we worked on one of the largest

optimised solar farms in Europe.

Earthworks are groundwork suppliers for major

initiatives operated by leading renewable energy

providers like British Gas and Anesco.

We have vast experience in preparing land for solar

farms.

Over the last few years our aim has been to develop our business to provide a multitude of services for

clients in one place, reducing risk of problems caused by the nature of too many companies involved in one

operation. Stress is reduced and clients are left with the confidence that we run the project seamlessly and

address problems efficiently when they arise.

We demonstrate a high caliber of work by advising reputable businesses on the correct action to take

regarding the groundwork infrastructure. Our knowledge has enabled us to work with key players in the

renewable energy sector such as Anesco who have grown to be the largest providers of operations and

maintenance for renewable assets in the UK.

state-of-the-art renewable energy project or a multi-purpose business park,

Earthworks work across a vast variety of civil engineering projects all year round.

We are groundworks specialists, with the experience, expertise and equipment to support any project and

prepare the land for an outstanding result. Earthworks are fully regulated and have worked with large

corporations as well as smaller companies and private clients.

Whatever the terrain, weather, environment or ground conditions – even the muddiest, rockiest and most

challenging – our teams are able to deliver precise solutions, safely, reliably and at fixed prices. With laser

guided machinery and skilled operatives, Earthworks ensure that you get the right result, first time. We work off

plans or drawings and we will make it happen, right down to the last detail.

We can provide a complete ‘turnkey’ site preparation solution, projected managed and manned entirely by

Earthworks, or work alongside other contractors as a partner. We can also supply manned equipment to work

with private clients, and ‘welfare packages’ for on-site facilities.

Our services are flexible, efficient, fast and cost-effective. Your project will be completed on time and on budget,

with minimum disruption.

Earthworks provide a complete range of drainage solutions for every sort of application, from farms and

commercial property to domestic, industrial and specialised projects like golf greens and private equestrian

arenas.

Whether we’re working on a new job or offering remedial and problem solving services – and whatever the

ground and weather conditions – we have both the technology and the expertise to ensure that the job is

completed quickly.

Working In All Terrains

We have worked all around Europe with every kind of terrain – so we have the experience, insight and

technology to overcome any problems and issues which the land might present, like underground rocks, cables

or other obstacles.

Steel Frame Buildings

We supply and erect; Livestock, Sheep Shed, Straw Barn, Grain Store, Chicken Shed, Silage Clamp or General

Purpose buildings to the farming industry.

For the Commercial industry we build a range of Warehouses for MOT Test Stations, Retail Units, and

Workshops. Over recent years we have constructed Equestrian steel portal frame arenas for clients who wish

to continue to train their horses throughout the year.

Solar & Renewable Energy SupportMDownes Earthworks are continuing to work with clients not only on solar farms but laying foundations and erecting

the latest Battery Barns. The batteries being housed in the barns have the ability to store energy that is generated from

a renewable source, this can be a valuable resource for any power system, making it an even more efficient way to

use energy.

A battery storage system can store the energy produced by a solar, wind or hydro system. This has many advantages

including providing an independent and uninterrupted power supply that will remain even if the grid supply fails. It

enables sites to maximise the savings from on-site generation by using ‘free’ electricity stored in the battery rather than

from the grid.

We carry out the groundworks and supply and erect the barn - the batteries need to sit on well drained, dry

foundations and within a Barn structure with suitable ventilation.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps now qualify for increased RHI tariffs, so are increasingly popular. We can help with

excavation for pipework, either in slinky overlapping coils or horizontal runs (using our Ditch Witch for trenchless

installation).

Golf Course Construction, Maintenance & RemodelingFrom complete course construction to maintenance, rebunkering and reshaping fairways, tees and greens,

Earthworks are involved in prestigious projects right across Europe. We’re delighted to have been chosen to

provide specialist services for the renovation of the spectacular L’Albatros course at Le Golf National in France –

hosts for the biennial Ryder Cup match in 2018. We’ve helped shape the Brabazon Course at the Belfry too, and

the Evian Resort Golf Club, overlooking Lake Geneva. We have been working with leading golf course contractors

European Golf Design for the last 10 years.

Creating the perfect contours and surfaces of a top class golf course depends not just on our extensive

groundworking capabilities and capacity, but also on the ability to look at the course designers plans and bring them

to life in the real world environment – using an expert eye to adjust and improve according to the lie of the land.

Accuracy is paramount and that’s what makes us the best in the game –preparing courses which play true and

provide players with the challenging details the designer had in mind.

Plant & EquipmentEarthworks provide a wide range of groundwork-related plant hire, from our own stock. Most of

this plant is available operated or self driven. All our operators are fully trained. We are

members of the Construction Plant Hire Association and work under the CPA Terms &

Conditions.
