Pathway Kids ages 3-4th grade are invited to a children appropriate worship program using a book called Passport to Adventure. Children will discover how everyday choices can show love and obedience to God helping them to become a part of God’s family and then to live as followers of God. The children will dismiss from the worship service just before the sermon and are available for pick up immediately following. We do NOT meet the last Sunday of the month (NEXT Sunday).

Welcome to all, but in particular, welcome to all guests! We encourage you to fill out the guest card on the back of this worship program and place it in the wooden box on the table in the back of the auditorium. Thank you for visiting Pathway today. “Come. See. Connect.” One of the quickest ways to kill contentment is to compare. That’s why the Lord says, “Do not covet.” Coveting is comparison plus heightened desire and it will destroy contentment. Today we explore enjoying what we have rather than gazing at another’s.

Next Sunday, October 28 we welcome Pastor Joseph Brinks, a CRC interim pastor.

NEXT Sunday is the Last Sunday of the Month Next Sunday, October 28 is the last Sunday of the month. Therefore: - Name Tag Sunday - Offering for our Thanksgiving Day Meal Delivery Project - No Catechism before Worship or Pathway Kids during the service

High School Youth Group Meeting TODAY The High School Youth Group will be meeting TODAY from 5:00-6:30 pm. for a lesson on death. Opportunities to Serve A BIG Thank You to all those who came and supported our Super Hero Event either through participating, donating, helping with the games and food, and/or serving on our committee. We raised about $2,000 for Mommy’s Haven! This month our offering will be taken for the food costs for our Thanksgiving Day Meal Deliveries (NEXT Sunday, October 28). We plan to deliver about 500 meals to those in need in our community. We invite you and your families to help us for about an hour following the Thanksgiving Day Worship Service. What a blessing to give a homemade meal to our neighbors! Youth for Christ, (a division of Campus Life for Lake Central and Hanover High School), presents See The Story, an evening of celebration and fellowship. Join us for an inspiring journey through the mission and passion of Youth For Christ to transform the lives of youth, their families, and their communities. Hear powerful stories of life-change and see how together we are making an eternal difference in the lives of young people. You won’t want to miss this evening to celebrate all that God is doing through Youth for Christ! The Northwest Indiana event is Thursday November 8 at 6:30 pm. at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. Lincoln Highway, Merrillville, Indiana. It’s a free event. RSVP to Terri, [email protected]. Angels of Hope Christmas Gift opportunities will be offered again at the beginning of November. We are looking for a couple more people to help pick up the St. John Starbucks leftover food and dropping it off at the church office. Your commitment would be about once every 2 weeks and take about 10 minutes of your time. We pick up 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Do you run errands at Aldi, Strack’s, or Target on 41 in St John? Then this would be easy for you! See Terri Schaaf!

If you have any questions on the above, please contact Terri Schaaf at [email protected].

Discussion Questions and Projects

Questions

1. Can you think of an occasion when your satisfaction was crippled when you compared your situation with someone else’s? 2. What are the dangers to our faith that come from a life marked by comparison?

Project Challenge

1. Take some quiet time and make a lengthy list of the blessings you are surrounded by. Find a quiet place to think through your life, and include not only physical items, but also relational mental, and spiritual. Physical blessing might include things we take for granted like eyesight, hearing, mobility. Include various types of food and clothing, selecting individual items for which you are grateful. Include a list of friends. 2. Read back through your list. What does this experience do? Write your response or share your reflections with a friend.
