CONTEXT

❑ The revision was initiated in 2006, first draft finalised in 2010 and with therequest of an operational manual;

❑ The operational manual was developed through MHSC by a service provider;

❑ MOHAC task team was established to ensure that the guideline incorporates theinformation in the SAMOHP code book;

❑ The reporting forms were also reviewed; and gazetted together with theGuideline in April 2018;

❑ The guideline has been disseminated in 9 regions, with WC planned for 21February 2019.

CONTEXT

OBJECTIVE

This guideline is aimed at assisting employers to draft a COP for anoccupational health programme which measures occupationalexposures to airborne pollutants aimed at ensuring compliance withOELs, protecting workers health and linking these exposure resultsto employee medical records.

SCOPE

Regulation 9.2(2) requires the employer to establish & implement aof system of occupational hygiene measurements on personalexposure to airborne pollutants.

CONTEXT

The Occupational Hygiene Programme to be addressedin the COP must cover the following:

❖Risk Assessment

❖Determination of HEG

❖Sampling and analysis methodology and quality control

❖Personal exposure monitoring

❖Linking of occupational exposure

❖Hierarchy of control

❖Reporting and recording.

A minimum of 5% or five samples (whichever is the greater) per HEG should be taken as perclassification bands in Annexure C as per the following:✓ Category A - samples per quarter; Category B - six-monthly to be evenly -spread bi-annually; and

Category C - samples per annum to be evenly- spread annually;
