Going once. Going twice. It’ll be gone before you know it. This year, at the 2011 Gwinnett Chamber Business Expo and Job Fair, Delta Community Credit Union is sponsoring a Silent Auction. But it’s anything but silent and actually requires the art of scavenging to obtain ‘Credits’ with which to bid on your items. Here’s how it works:  Here’s how it works for attendees:1) Each attendee to the Expo will receive a ‘Delta Commu-nity Credit Union Credit Card Game piece’.2) To load this card, attendees must visit the expo booths and follow the instructions to obtain a code from said booth representative.3) There are quantity levels per action achieved (i.e., leave a business card - $10 credit; leave a card and take exhibitor information/collateral - $25

credit). The more attendees engage the booth reps, the more in credit they get.4) Take stamped credit card to the silent auctioneer and bid on the preferred items up to the limit collected on the credit card.5) Fill up the card at the highest participation level and be recognized at the con-clusion of the Expo.6) The Silent Auction closes at 4:30. All cards will be collect-ed/turned in, calculated and winners selected. You do not have to be present to win.*Silent Auction closes at 4:30 p.m. No purchase is necessary for any of the booths. themed on the Spartan-based movie “300” and will encourage participants to “Prepare for Glory” throughout the fall at Reward Sessions held every other week at various locations aroundthecounty,untiltheVic-tory Celebration in January 2012.  These sessions will cele-brate successes and recognize the top producers. After the final sword is drawn, the volunteers who generate $11,500 or more will celebrate their victory with the ultimate reward -- a trip to Grand Cayman. In addition to providing funds to sustain programs for business development, commu-nity improvement and member services, the campaign also pro-vides volunteers an opportunity to grow professionally, expand business and community con-tacts, and help the Gwinnett Chamber become even stronger and more vital for business in the future. Members of the Chamber and the community can play an

important role in helping the Gwinnett Chamber reach its goal by recommending mem-bers, sponsoring an event or purchasing an advertisement.   “If you are approached by one of the campaign’s volunteers, please take a few minutes to browse the Sponsorship Product Manual. There might be a perfect match for your business to gain valuable exposure in the Gwin-nett area business community by supporting the Chamber pro-gram you value most. There’s still time to join in the fun and get involved,”saidVinceDeSil-va, sr. vice president of member services, Gwinnett Chamber.     For more information on how to join a team, help your community, earn cash incentives or a trip to Grand Cayman, please contact Donna McBee at 770-232-8810 or [email protected].  Also, be sure to visit the Membership & Spon-sorship Campaign at booth number 710 at the Expo to find out how you can get involved!

In June of this year, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its 2010 Q4 County Employment preliminary estimates. The numbers reveal that Gwinnett County is leading Georgia in employ-ment growth, with a signifi-cant wage increase in 2010. Between December 2009 and December 2010, employ-ment in the county grew by 1.7%-by far the highest increase of any large county in the state, and 52nd among the 327 largest counties nation-wide tracked by the BLS. Additionally, the report identified that Gwinnett’s employment growth was almost double the national

average (0.9%) over the same period. The robust wage growth year-over-year was identified at 3.7%, the sec-ond-highest among large counties in the state and 0.7 percentage points above the national average. Large coun-ties are defined by the BLS as those with employment of 75,000 or more as measured by 2009 annual average employment. “It is exciting to see gains in jobs and wages despite a tough economy. The energy and hard work of Gwinnett’s business community, com-bined with our economic development efforts through Partnership Gwinnett, are showing positive results,” said

Gwinnett Commission Chair-man Charlotte Nash. “Kaiser Permanente is delighted with the great news that Gwinnett County is showing such positive growth in employment,” said Kerry W. Kohnen, President of Kaiser Permanente of Georgia. “We’re proud to be part of such a thriving com-munity, not only through our involvement Partnership Gwinnett, but also through our commitment to help keep Gwinnett County and its residents healthy.” “As we wrap up the first phase of Partnership Gwin-nett and kick-off the second phase this summer, the release of these numbers

proves to be very timely. They truly communicate the impact of our economic development efforts, further reinforcing the importance of the initiative in the com-munity.” said Nick Masino, Vice President of EconomicDevelopment and Partner-ship Gwinnett at the Gwin-nett Chamber. Among the highest wage-earning counties in the state, Gwinnett has continuously led Georgia’s core Metro coun-ties with the lowest unem-ployment rate for 25 consecu-tive months. ArtWorks! Gwinnett is a nonprofit organization created by volunteers for the purpose of supporting and promot-ing arts and culture in Gwinnett County to improve quality of life and enhance community and economic develop-ment. Just two months after welcoming ArtWorks! first staff member, Executive Director Sally A. Corbett, the group has

announced a number of initiatives. Arts community representatives and Gwin-nett elected officials will gather for the Gwinnett Arts Forum on Monday, Sep-tember 19 at 7 p.m. followed by “A Toast to ArtWorks!” - the official arts communi-ty launch for the organization.

ArtWorks! seeks to invite and inspire more Gwinnett and greater-metro Atlanta

area residents to participate in the arts in Gwinnett. The group is embarking on a series of community outreach and mar-keting programs. Corbett and volunteers will represent ArtWorks! at Gather Atlanta (August 6 at SCAD), Aurora Theatre’s “A Chorus Line” Performance (August 6, 8 p.m., Lawrenceville), Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and Job Fair (August 18, Gwinnett Center) and Folk Fest 2011 (visual art fest, August 19-21, North Atlanta Trade Center, Norcross). ArtWorks! will also participate in two col-laborations that will benefit the arts orga-nizations in Gwinnett – a regional public service campaign for the arts organized by Public Broadcasting Atlanta’s Atlanta-Planit and an arts census and data project organized by C4 Atlanta.

In addition, ArtWorks! will introduce the Woodruff Arts Center’s President and CEO Joe Bankoff at the Partnership Gwin-nett Summit (August 26, Gwinnett Techni-cal College). Bankoff will present on the economic impact of the arts and creative industries in Georgia, as well as data revealing the influence of the arts on aca-demic achievement.

In the coming months, ArtWorks!, in collaboration with the Gwinnett Conven-tion and Visitors Bureau, will offer two pro-fessional development programs for arts administrators and volunteers. A panel on grant writing is being planned for Septem-ber, and will be presented by ArtWorks! Board of Doers member Susan Bacon, Grant Consultant and Owner at Palmetto Grant Consulting, along with Tina Lilly, Arts Services Manager with Georgia Council for the Arts. In November, the organization will present a panel on securing corporate sponsors and partners.

As it moves forward ArtWorks! is plan-ning a late fall event that will recognize the achievements in the arts community, school arts programs, as well as collabora-tions between arts and the public and private sectors.

For more information about ArtWorks! Gwinnett and its activities or to volunteer please email [email protected] or call 678-474-1701. Artists and arts organization representatives are encour-aged to contact ArtWorks! Gwinnett to receive regular information about work-shops and opportunities.

Gwinnett Chamber Eco-nomic Development cele-brated the expansion of I–TECH Staffing Services facil-ity at a ribbon cutting cere-mony at their facility at 4020 Steve Reynolds Boulevard in Norcross. I–TECH Staffing Services is a GMSDC regis-tered minority-owned staff-ing provider. The company was established in 1997 spe-cializing in placing experi-enced Electronics Assembly and Soldering employees for the Computer and Electron-ics Manufacturing and Repair Industry. The addition of 45,000 square feet brings 53 jobs with it to Gwinnett County.

“My decision to expand in Gwinnett County was obvi-ous. Gwinnett is growing and heavily populated with the communities in which we serve.” said Phillip Tran, President of I-TECH Staffing and I-TECH e-Services. Those communities include Vietnamese, Hispanic, Kore-an, South American, African, Eastern European, Chinese, and many others.

“I-TECH Staffing is uniquely qualified to fill elec-tro-mechanical and electron-ic technician, tester and assembler positions due to our sister company, I-Tech e-Services’, in-house facility.” said Lila Brennan, Director of Staffing at of I-TECH Staff-ing. “Since moving into our new facility, we now have room for growth - including benefits and services to our employees that other staffing agencies cannot and do not offer.”

“Gwinnett County is glad to hear news of I-Tech’s expansion in the communi-

ty,” said Gwinnett County Chairman Charlotte Nash. “The jobs added will not only employ more of our qualified workforce, but the firm itself is ensuring that Gwinnett remains Metro Atlanta’s most employed county.”

“Gwinnett County has experienced an influx of suc-cessful minority-owned busi-nesses over the last ten years,” said Nick Masino, Vice President of EconomicDevelopment and Partner-ship Gwinnett at the Gwin-nett Chamber. “As a majori-ty-minority county, job cre-ation resulting from minority entrepreneurship is makes a significant economic impact on the Gwinnett community at large.”

I-TECH has grown to a full service recruiting and place-ment company helping to provide employees for Temp to Hire and Long Term or Project Driven/Seasonal assignments for Office Sup-port, Clerical, Customer Ser-vice, AP & AR as well as Light Industrial for Manufac-turing & Production (machine operators, mechan-ics, line workers), Warehouse (Order Pulling, Shipping/Receiving, Inventory, General Labor and Lift Truck). Their focus is to aid those individu-als who have gained their experience and expertise in other countries and expand-ing their training in the Unit-ed States.

Gwinnett is a National leader in minority-owned businesses and entrepreneur-ship.  For more information on Gwinnett Chamber Eco-nomic Development and Partnership Gwinnett, visit www.successliveshere.com.
