President's Post-It Lighting Candles; Never Cursing the Darkness

Kristin Behrens, RBTCCC President

It has been a busy year for the Red Bluff Tehama County Chamber of Commerce. Begin-ningwithanewCEO,DaveGowan’sarrivalinMarch,officerefurbishment,electronic

and internet upgrades, enhanced marketing image and a robust and growing membership soon followed. In May we conducted a long needed Strategic Advance meeting and set forth a strategy to improve mem-bership, communication, group cohesion and our image. Regularly communicating with the City has been an important component of our strategy, delivering updates on a monthly basis. Committee work has been vibrant with the RBTC Chamber involvement and in some cases leadership of the April Red Bluff Round Up 11-days of Rodeo, Good Morning Red Bluff, Red Bluff Rebound Radical 10 ideas, Lake Red Bluff Mitigation Plans, Farmer’s Market, 4th of July, Seeds of Opportunity, Monster Trucks, Ribs, Rods and Rides, Candidates Night, The Annual Wine Drive, Government Relations focused on Development Impact Fees, Air Quality Fees, and any other act that impairs our ability to sustain and grow our community. We have proudly supported the community effort to establish a brand for Tehama County that celebrates and markets our assets and look forward to turning the corner of yet another year with new Directors Darwyn Jones, Lisa Hansen, Suren Patel and Kristen Gray. These Directors come with new ideas such as Suren’s efforts to create a Red Bluff “Business After Hours” networking opportunity of which the November gathering was an overwhelming success hosted by Wilcox Golf Course. We say goodbye to our long time friendandvolunteerCarolWoodasshetookafinalbowherfinalGoodMorningRedBluffandhandedthereins to her long time co-leader, Cindy Brown and Laurel Sparrow. Leaders are always needed and wel-come! Our election process is just around the corner, a process that has not been followed for some time as no one seemed interested to join our efforts to support our mission to promote the growth and prosperity of localbusiness.However,thetideshaveturned-soonourmemberswillreceiveasurvey/nominationformelectronically to nominate new board members and provide feedback on our progress. All Chamber members are asked to help in compiling information for one of the more popular of the Cham-ber’s visitor and tourist handouts - the annual Calendar of Events. This 4-page listing of events taking place in our area throughout the year is distributed to visitors, local residents, organizations, and media and publica-tions throughout the entire state. The Chamber’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, notes that “your help is needed in the preparation of this handy and popular handout.” “You can help by supplying the Chamber with any information regard-ing date, location, brief description, etc., of any major or traditional events that will take place in Tehama County next year.”

In addition to major events like the Red Bluff Round Up in April and the 4th of July Heritage Days in July, the calendar lists other popular events such as the Farm City Night in Novem-ber and the Relay for Life in May. In order to make the list as com-plete as possible and not leave any event out, we ask several times for help in identifying these events with appropriate dates, etc. So please, if you know of any event already scheduled for next year, call the Chamber office at 530-527-6220,fax the event schedule at 530-527-2908, or e-mail the event schedule to [email protected] so that we can include them in the 2011 Cal-endar of Events.

Christmas Miracle Holidays, busy days, time re-allyflies! I likegifts,Santa, timeoff, Christmas parties but I real-ized years ago there’s so much more to the Christmas season. The qualities; Love, Joy, Peace, Hope are some of the greatest compo-nents of Christmas. This Holiday is based on the birth of Jesus 2,000 years ago in a barn. In that day, it was a dark tumultuous time for hu-manity, but on Christmas morning Hope was born. In this Season, as youreflectontheyearandwonderabout the future, let new hope, love and dreams be birthed in your life personally, for your family, busi-ness and everything you put your hand to. It’s been a great pleasure to serve you this year; I sincerely hopeyouhaveaJoy-filledChrist-mas and a prosperous New Year!
