Sportsman is the most exciting son of SAV Pursuit to date. He ranks in the top 1% of current sires for YW, Milk and CW all while being in the top 5% for WW, RE, $W, $F and $B. His mother, Herbster May 0102, continues to be our greatest female achievement to date, producing progeny with an award-winning phenotype all while maintaining a superior EPD profile. A stand out maternal brother to Sportsman by SAV Fieldmaster sells as Lot 5. The bulls we are offering by Sportsman are soft, docile and have a great set of curve bender numbers. They will be sale favorites. Sire of Lots 1A-4.

The Lot 1 Bulls are structurally correct, powerful bulls with excellent number profiles. These bulls are a product of the exceptional paring of two of the best Herbster bred cows, HF Forever Lady 8126 and HF Blackcap May 0102. They are the mothers of Huntsman and Sportsman, who topped the 2013 sale at $18,000 and $17,500.It seemed only logical to flush Huntsman’s mother to Sportsman, pairing these two maternal powerhouses. “8126” has recorded 3WR@121, 3YW@112, 3IMF@99 and 3REA@107 while “0102,” the mother of Sportsman, has produced 2 WW@119, 2 YW@114 and 2REA@106. The resulting mating made powerful, structurally correct bulls with superior EPDs. We believe they will be assets to any herd they touch, as they will add maternal merit and phenotypic excellence. Keep every daughter! Maternal brother to this lot, Herbster Huntsman 227, was named the Reserve Supreme Champion Bull and the Grand Champion Angus Bull at the 2014 Nebraska State Fair. Another maternal brother by SAV Ringmaster sold for $8,500 in last year’s sale to Taylor Farms, Clifton, KS. The Lot 1 bulls will improve udder quality, performance, eye appeal and longevity without sacrificing number quality. Bid with confidence, as this is a great set of bulls! Recommended for heifers and cows.

HERBSTER SPORTSMAN SONS
Herbster Lineman 411 is an excellent numbered bull, posting a double-digit CED of +10 and ranking as the 3rd highest CED bull in the sale. Don’t overlook his excellent growth EPDs! He ranks in the top 5% of Non-Parent sires for WW, YW and $B EPD and in the top 2% for $F. Lot 2’s mother, Herbster Blackcap 112, is a beautiful young cow who has produced 2BW@101 and [email protected] is extremely gentle and recommended for heifers.
The Lot 3 bull might be the steal of the sale if you are looking for calving ease, great phenotype and excellent $B numbers. He ranks in the top 5% of the breed for WW, YW and $B. “Archer” stems from a great “Rita” cow family that we purchased from Vintage Angus Ranch. He is heifer safe!
Out of a first-calf heifer by SAV Harvestor, Herbster Sport 4102 is a moderate birth weight option with amazing growth EPDs. Ranking in the top 1% of Non-Parent bulls for WW, YW and $F. He will add pounds to your calf crop just like his sire and grandsire! Recommended for cows.

+35.88The $155,000 SAV Fieldmaster is a Harvestor with class. When he sold in the 2013 Schaff Angus Valley Sale, he caught the attention of experienced cattlemen with his length, muscle and eye-catching style. He presents strong numbers in every category and is backed by generations of maternal excellence. His stunning dam, SAV Abigale 5650, is phenotypically perfect in her structure and loaded with power and muscle. Moreover, she has impeccable udder quality. SAV Abigale 5650 is also the mother of SAV Pursuit and SAV Recruit, who are sires of many high-quality bulls in this offering. Look for the Fieldmaster bulls to add growth, maternal traits and style to their progeny.Sire of Lot 5
Herbster Sythe 4153 is the result of an exciting flush out of the $155,000 SAV Fieldmaster and our greatest female accomplishment, HF Blackcap May 0102. A daughter of SydGen CC&7, “0102” is a “no-miss cow,” and is the mother of the $17,500 Herbster Sportsman going to Carl Dethlefs and Sons, Rockville, NE and the $9,250 Herbster Tabasco who was purchased by Ray Kopecke, Oneill, NE. Herbster Tabasco was selected as the 2014 Nebraska Junior Angus Show Grand Champion Bred and Owned Bull for Miranda Raithel. Miranda also led a full sister to Lot 5, Herbster Blackcap May 4135, to the 2014 Nebraska State Fair “Open” Junior Show Grand Champion Angus Female Championship. Recommended for cows

Actual BW: Adj WW: Weaning Ratio:85 804 107The lead-off SAV Pursuit son is a phenotypic standout. This bull is explosive in his lower quarter, stylish in his design and extended in his front end. If we had to pick a bull that we know will add award-winning style, the Lot 6 bull would be it. His mother is a hard-working first calf heifer by SAV Brave that stems from the productive Coleman Donna family that produced the Select Sires bull, Coleman Regis. His weaning weight number and moderate size make him a perfect choice for ranchers wishing to bump up their weaning weights while keeping their mature cow frame score moderate. He ranks in the top 3% of the breed for Non-Parent Sires for weaning weight EPD. Recommended for cows.
The Lot 7 bull is what Ed calls a “big country” bull. Rugged and growthy, he will increase your frame score without sacrificing number profiles or maternal merit. His SAV Net Worth mother, ALC Lyn H62T, is a massive cow, possessing a beautiful hip and a big foot. Recommended for cows.

We continue to marvel at the excellence of SAV Pursuit. His calves have excelled in every facet of the growth process by coming easy, growing fast and commanding stellar prices at sale time. They are attractive, growthy and crush the scales at weaning and yearling. SAV Pursuit will inject growth, productivity and phenotype to his progeny all while maintaining maternal excellence.Kelly Schaff calls him “majestic” stating, “Pursuit is one of the most impressive herd sires to ever walk the breeding pastures at SAV. He impressed visitors with his combination of growth, muscle, structural correctness and superior style. We are confident in his ability to sire feminine, high-maternal daughters with ideal udders, as his pedigree is stacked for that purpose both top and bottom. His incomparable dam may well be the top phenotype cow in SAV history with a tremendous production record. Pursuit has been a highlight of SAV pasture tours for the past two summers. He will be a maternal standout breeding bull - keep every daughter.” Sire of Lots 6-13.

Grand Champion Steer, 2014 Richardson County Fair, raised by Herbster Angus Farms, shown by Caitlin Cooper
The mother of the Lot 9 bulls is a maternal sister to the powerful bulls who are lotted as 8A and 8B. Sired by SAV Pursuit and out of a prolific “Lucy” cow, the Lot 9 bulls are a unique twist, infused with the maternal and calving ease traits supplied by their maternal grandsire SAV Legacy 5216. At Herbster Angus Farms, we have always been impressed with the udders and maternal characteristics of the SAV Legacy females. Straight in their lines and excellent in their EPD and pedigree profiles, the Lot 9 bulls are the complete package. Lot 9C ranks in the top 1% of the breed for Non-Parent sires for WW EPD and in the top 3% for YW EPD. He is also the second-lowest BW EPD bull in the offering.

His mother is SAV Madame Pride 8264, the $97,500 Herbster Angus Farms selection of the 2006 Schaff Angus Valley Sale. Look for him to inject maternal merit, longevity and style to your next calf crop.Recommended for larger heifers and cows.
Herbster Unitas was the calf at side of Herbster Forever Lady 1178 when she was selected as the Reserve Senior Champion Female at the 2013 American Royal Super Point ROV Angus Show in Kansas City, MO. His mother is an ideal Angus replacement, with a beautiful udder and excellent structural correctness. His grandam, HF Forever Lady 574, is a very productive cow, producing 4BW@94 and [email protected] for larger heifers and cows.
There’s royalty in Lot 13’s blood! His mother, SAV Emblynette 1370, was our 2012 pick of the Schaff Angus Valley 2011 heifer division at $100,000. She is proving to be an excellent uddered, productive young cow in the Herbster Angus Farms herd. His grandam, the $350,000 SAV Emblynette 7749, is the mother of SAV Harvestor, the Angus growth and power sensation. A long, cool customer, Herbster Pace is backed by generations of cow power. His grandam has 3WW@114 and his great-grandam has [email protected] for cows.
The Lot 11 bull is backed by generations of cow power! Herbster Pursuit 3197’s mother is a full sister to SAV Angus Valley. “1807” is a larger framed cow that is nursing her second calf this fall by Herbster Sportsman. The maternal grandam of Lot 11, SAV May 2397 is stellar producer. She has six sons working in AI studs and is the third top income-producing cow in Schaff Angus Valley history. Not only is he backed by a superior cow family, this young herd sire has power-packed EPDs, boasting the #3 WW, YW and $F EPD in the offering. Those traits also rank in the top 1% of the breed forNon-Parent sires. His $B ranks in the top 3%, respectfully.Recommended for larger heifers and cows.

Birth Weight Logic
Republished and revised, with permission, from the 2015 Hoover Angus Farm Production Sale Catalog.
Angus bulls have long been known for their paramount calving ease. If you are breeding heifers, Angus is the go-to breed of choice. Even middle-of-the-road birth weight Angus bulls will be easier calving than the majority of other breed bulls. However,
what about the so-called “big” birth weight Angus bulls? Where do they fit in?
The bulls in this catalog that are recommended for cows are by no means “big birth weight” bulls, rather they are typically bulls that we see as better choices to use on cows. They are ones that will add more power and pounds to their progeny, which puts
more money in your pocket if you are selling your calves by the pound.
The biggest BW EPD bull in the Herbster Angus Farms sale is Lot 22, a son of SAV Ringmaster, who is responsible for massive weights at weaning. The Lot 22 bull has a BW EPD of +4.9. This +4.9 BW EPD Angus bull would be equivalent to a
+1.5 BW Simmental bull, a -3.9 BW Charolais bull or a +2.2 BW Hereford bull. (Using the 2014 Across-Breed EPDs).
Data reported to the AAA shows that 99% of Angus cows, 2nd calf or beyond, calve unassisted and only 1% need some type of assistance (abnormal deliveries excluded from this data).
The moral of the story: If you are breeding mature cows, the differences in actual calving ease between the lowest and highest BW EPD bulls in this auction will be extremely small. Remember too, the CED EPD predicts calving ease when a bull is bred
to FIRST-CALF HEIFERS ONLY! It has no bearing on mature cows.

Herbster Huntsman was the high-selling lot in our 2013 sale at $18,000. His first calf crop came easy and grew well, having an average BW of 72#. Huntsman is a long, smooth bull with excellent feet and legs. Respected cattlemen have marveled at his extended front end and superior soundness. He was selected as the 2014 Nebraska State Fair Grand Champion Angus Bull and Reserve Supreme Champion Bull. The progeny by Huntsman will have excellent udders, as his mother, HF Forever Lady 8126, is one of the most productive cows to walk the ground at Herbster Angus Farms. A true calving ease sire, the Huntsman calves are very moderate at birth. Maternal brother to Lots 1A-C and sire of Lots 14-15.

Affectionately called the “Sugar” cow line, the 4th dam in the maternal pedigree, SAF Forever Lady 5138, is the cow that Ed says he followed to Herbster Angus Farms. Charles bought her in 1996 from Sydenstricker Genetics. Her lineage was also directly responsible for the #1 docility bull of the breed, SydGen CC&7. “Sugar’s” progeny are known, at Herbster Angus Farms, for fleshing ability, maternal excellence and docility. This young herd sire will be no different. Herbster Bridger may not be a “sleep-all-night” heifer bull, but he could be used on heifers with supervision.
Herbster Huntsman 459, the Lot 15 bull, is that heifer bull so many producers seek to find. With a 72# actual BW EPD with a ratio of 94, this young bull is projected to be extremely heifer safe. Out of a first-calf heifer himself, “459” is backed by generations of rugged cows who have excellent mothering ability, longevity and fertility. His great grandam, ACF Tiffany 1012, served as a long-time donor for us and couldn’t walk past a bull without getting bred. We sold her this past year while she was raising her 10th calf. Herbster Huntsman 459 ranks in the top 10% of the breed for Non-Parent sires for RE EPD and $B EPD. Recommended for heifers.

98Herbster Merited 401 has been one of those bulls people notice every time they walk into the bull pen. Straight in his lines and beautiful in his pattern, he stops traffic! His mother is a productive, excellent numbered Sitz Upward female from the popular Rishel Young Lucy family. We have enjoyed the beautiful udders, great mothering ability and profitable performance that this cow family has given us. The daughters by the Lot 16 bull will have excellent maternal instincts with perfect udders. The bull mates will grow fast, with an excellent phenotype, as “401” is a bruiser of a bull, packed with muscle. They will demand excellent prices at sale time. “401” ranks in the top 4% for the $B EPD.Recommended for larger heifers and cows.
Herbster Laurel 466 is the maternal brother to last year’s sale topper, Herbster Republic 3177, who sold for $25,000 to Kip Cullers, Purdy, MO. Like his brother, “Laurel” is a moderate bull, carrying added depth and softness. His mother is our favorite “004” daughter. She is a production powerhouse, possessing 5BW@97, 5WR@106, 3YR@107 and 4REA@104. She is a “no-miss” cow, and is a full sister to the Buford Ranch herd sire, MF New Return 8196. SAV Harvestor 0338 is a true breed changer and performance powerhouse. He has no equal among all proven sires in the Angus breed for adding performance and real beef value. This has been documented in many large commercial and purebred herds. Harvestor progeny are stamped with breed character and built right from the ground up. They are perfect in their structure, with massive thickness, volume and expressive muscle shape. His sons are loaded with performance and substance, while his daughters are feminine with beautiful udders and added dimension to make real brood cows. Kelly Schaff says, “Harvestor’s progeny dominate the ground they walk on and come with the highest recommendation to real-world cowmen. His powerful sons have been well received in our past sales, as well as in sales across the globe. Ninety-one amazing Harvestor sons averaged $21,729 in the recent Schaff Angus Valley Sale.”Sire of Lots 19A-B and 20 A-C.

“#1 Performance sire in the Angus breed”
If you are looking for a mature bull to use on mature cows, look no further than this pair of powerful flush brothers. Packed with pound-makers on both sides of the pedigree, their sire, SAV Harvestor is the #1 growth and power bull of the Angus breed. HF Erica 005,the mother of Lots 19A & 19B, is a donor in our program who is a masterpiece of maternal perfection. The grandam of this lot, HF Erica 225, was our first Pathfinder cow; and was the ideal female for fleshing ability, udder quality and pound-making genetics. She posts 7WR@107, 4YW@105, 16IMF@102 and 16REA@100. Some of the data required to produce EPDs through AHIR was not recorded on the dam of Lots 19A and 19B. Therefore, their EPDs have been estimated. Recommended for cows.

Charles W. and Judy Herbster of Herbster Angus Farms received recognition for 50 years in the Angus business. Bryce Schumann, CEO of the American Angus Association, Milford H. Jenkins, President of the Angus Foundation, and Tom Burke, Board Member for the American Angus Association presented the award to the Herbsters at the 2015 Conklin National Convention.
by Clinton Laflin for Best of the West, January-February 2015
Some may think the long hours of homework are over after graduation, but that is not the case at Herbster Angus Farms; homework is associated with every aspect of the operation. No sire or female is purchased or cow is bred without doing the proper homework to help make the best possible decisions. “Our philosophy has always been to acquire the best genetics available and then breed our Angus cattle to improve any weakness they possess,” says owner Charles W. Herbster.
A Look BAck Herbster Angus Farms, located near Falls City, Neb., was homesteaded in 1847 by Charles’ great-great-grandfather, William McKendry Maddox. In addition to 300 head of Angus cattle, the Herbsters raise corn, soybeans, wheat and dairy-quality alfalfa hay. Charles got his start in the Angus business at the age of 11 when his grandmother, Leta Meyers Carico, bought him 65 registered Angus cows. Having worked hard all of her life in the dairy industry, she realized the importance of responsibility, decision-making and business lessons that owning cattle would provide her grandson. She had no idea her initial investment would serve as the foundation of a world-recognized Angus herd. Charles and Judy Herbster established Herbster Angus Farms 20 years ago with the goal of owning and breeding elite registered Angus cattle. Ed and Mandy Raithel were hired as general managers to help the Herbsters accomplish this goal. They have worked on the farm, along with their daughter, Miranda, for the past 16 years. The Raithels share the same passion and love for cattle as the Herbsters, and together they have forged Herbster Angus
Farms into a powerful operation. A truly diverse operation, the Herbsters market genetics to Angus breeders and commercial cattlemen from around the world. The ranch currently has 15 bulls at North American Breeders, Inc., a bull stud located in Berryville, Va. Four of the 15 bulls carry the Herbster prefix, including Sportsman, Huntsman, Republic and Tabasco. An annual bull and female sale is held each March, where superior Angus cattle and good people come together. The Herbsters’ 2015 production sale will be held Sat., March 28, at Marysville Livestock Auction, Marysville, Kan. The offering will include 45 Angus bulls, 2 SimAngus bulls and 40 commercial females. The sale will feature cattle sired by SAV Harvestor, SAV International, SAV Pursuit, SAV Revere, SAV Property, SAV Fieldmaster, SAV Recruit, SAV Ringmaster, SAV Merit, as well as their own ranch-raised herdsires.
the roAd to success “If you don’t have a road map, producing great cattle and making them excel is a challenge,” says Ed Raithel. “Once you know the type of cattle you want to base your program on, then you have a place to start.” The operation has developed a strict herd-management program that centers around practicality, longevity and profitability. Cows, calves, bulls and replacement heifers alike, must excel in defined Function Categories to be retained, sold or purchased by the Herbster program. These Function Categories include, but are not limited to: Feet and leg structure; fertility; udder quality; rib shape and overall body capacity; muscularity; longevity of the cow and her lineage;
he<Bste< A>gus fA<ms is temperament; overall production record of the individual; and the individual dam’s production record. While following this protocol may seem like going above and beyond the call of duty to some, it isn’t to Ed. “At Herbster Angus Farms, we don’t do average,” says Ed with a smirk and a chuckle. “Just ‘OK’ is not good enough.” Charles adds, “If you are going to do anything; give it your best.” The Herbsters strive to produce cattle that help their customers experience success. “When it comes to the cattle offered for sale, we always go forward with the goal in mind to improve our customers’ herds and ultimately the Angus breed,” explains Charles. While the registered breeder is one focus for the Herbsters, feedback from the commercial, cow-calf producer is another vital element that is key to the operation’s success. “Ultimately, we are helping our fellow seedstock producers and commercial cattlemen build better animals,” says Ed. “Each of our customer’s operations is unique. We strive to build lasting relationships with each in order to better understand how we can help them achieve their goals.” “Our goal is to provide excellent customer service; to give the customer more than they expect,” says Charles. “We want to make ourselves available to potential buyers and return customers. Then we can advise them about the genetics that will get them where they want to go even if it means advising them to find another sire elsewhere,” adds Ed. “When you do the right thing for the right reason, everyone wins!”
Looking to the future The Herbsters’ marketing goal is to
represent the cattle correctly and honestly, and lay a foundation for building long-term relationships with customers. “When customers call to purchase semen or ask about females, the cycle of ‘homework’ begins again,” says Charles. Charles and Ed are not afraid of change or trying something different. You can see this in many facets of the operation. One of the major decisions Charles made was to manage Herbster sires and market the semen in an unconventional manner. If he was going to invest in some of the best sires in the Angus breed, Charles was going to maintain ownership; choose where the bull was housed; the strength of the semen sold; and how the semen was marketed. Herbster Angus Farms’ Executive Vice President, Brittany E. Barker, in addition to Charles and the Raithels, talks to breeders almost daily. The team asks and answers questions to make sure each breeder requesting semen, for example, chooses the best sire to benefit his or her operation. They feel this strategy moves the customer closer to reaching their goals. “Our program is based on real cattle with performance integrity,” says Charles. “The program is built on honesty and value – from how we market and sell our cattle, to the data turned into the American Angus Association.” “Even with doing our homework, not every mating meets our expectations, not every sire purchased performs as we had expected,” says Charles. Instead of selling these animals to make back his investment, Charles chooses to take the loss for the good of the Angus breed. Charles adds, “We are committed not to pass unwanted genetics to unsuspecting breeders.” Visit www.herbsterangus.com for more about the operation at Herbster Angus Farms.

SAV International is the $400,000 record-selling bull from the 2013 SAV Sale. He represents all the qualities of an ideal beef bull, both phenotypically and on paper. He is backed by five generations of Emblynette Pathfinder dams. The phenomenal first calf crop by International have exceeded high expectations and proven him as a consistent sire of muscle, thickness, capacity, structural soundness, Angus breed character and breed-leading performance. They have earned him proven EPDs for weaning and yearling weight in the breed’s top 1%. In the recent Schaff Angus Valley Sale, International sired 36 sons who averaged $26,833 where they were the lead off sire group. In addition, International sired the Lot 1 bull, SAV Universal, who sold for $200,000. SAV International is one of the most dominant and consistent sires ever identified by the Herbster Angus Farms program and has rapidly become one of the most popular and heavily used sires in the Angus breed, destined to make a lasting impact. International is a full brother “in blood” to lots 20A-C.

SAV Ringmaster was the $300,000 highest-selling and #1 yearling weight bull of the 2012 Schaff Angus Valley Sale. He earned an impressive 205-day weight of 986 to ratio 113 that put him in the top four indexing bulls in the 2011 SAV calf crop. His Emblynette dam is a heavy-milking, top-producing cow with ratios of 5WW@111 and 4YW@110. The SAV Ringmaster calves have been standouts for growth and pounds at weaning in our herd. Look for his progeny to grow bigger, faster and stronger than any other sire group. Packed with performance, he will add more frame score to his progeny.Sire of Lots 21 & 22.
Herbster Ringmaster 4151 is rugged in his design and huge in his rib, just like his high-selling sire, SAV Ringmaster. He ranks as the third overall ADJ weaning weight bull in our spring calf crop, and has the third highest YW EPD in the offering at +121. His mother, Limestone Rosemary T178, has earned 5BW@100, 5WW@104, and 3YW@106. As she has only had natural bull calves, we flushed her to Ringmaster to produce some daughters. The flush resulted in classy, high-performing heifers. They are favorites of many who visit, exhibiting the excellent characteristics of growth, rib shape and correct frame score. The Ringmaster heifers are calving now and are some of the best 2 year-olds we’ve ever produced. A full brother is working for Ronald Duffy, NE. Maternal brothers are seeing success for Leo Huninghake, KS and Marty Rusk, KS.Recommended for cows.
Lot 22 will up the ante on cattle you are wishing to sell at weaning and yearling. His mother, HF Blackbird 152, is a young cow who is well on her way to being a Pathfinder with 2WR@109, 1YR@104, 1IMF@102 and 1REA@101. “492” is a maternal brother to the $10,000 Herbster Force 320, who was a sale favorite in 2014. They have that extra rib that is so hard to breed into one and are sound at the ground, beautiful fronted and regal. We love the first calf crop of Recruit calves and expect his daughters to make beautiful, ideal Angus replacements. Sire of Lots 23 & 24.
The Recruit progeny have been a joy to watch develop. From the day they are born, they are long, sleek and loaded with the potential to top any contemporary group for WDA. The Lot 23 bull, “4134,” is a definite calf crop mammoth, posting the top ADJ weaning weight at 848 pounds to ratio 118 in a very “growthy” contemporary group comprised of Harvestor, International and Ringmaster progeny. HF Rita 0149, the mother of “4134,” has been a great producer, possessing 2WR@112, 1YW@103 and 1REA@101. Recommended for cows.
Carrying that extra rib we all admire, Lot 24 is a beef bull, with a huge foot and loads of capacity. Like his pound-maker sire, Herbster Recruit 4143 is a beef machine and will be a favorite among commercial cowmen who sell pounds for a living. The $42,000 Werner Lady 2359, his stunning dam, is a moderate cow packed with look and soundness. She stems from the beautiful Thomas Lady family, who are known for their impeccable phenotype. This bull is extremely gentle. Recommended for cows.

SAV Revere 1180 is an exciting outcross sire with tremendous maternal value, scrotal size and docility in an easy-fleshing, performance package. Selected in the 2012 SAV Sale for $120,000, Revere has proven to be a consistent sire for Herbster Angus Farms, producing progeny that weigh heavy, are functional as they move and are attractive in the pasture. The first Revere daughters will calve this spring, and we expect them to be multi-trait leaders with unprecedented production success. Revere progeny were well received in the 2015 SAV Sale. Seven sons averaged $30,428 and four daughters of Revere averaged $25,500. Sire of Lots 25-27.
Leading off the Revere sons is the Lot 25 bull, Herbster Revere 493. He is masculine, muscular and easy fleshing. He represents the core strength of his sire. “493” is backed by the famous SAV Emblynette 8214, the mother of SAV Pathfinder and the grandmother of our foundation herd sire, SAV Legacy. She posts 5WR@106 and 5YW@106. Recommended for larger heifers and cows.

Stemming from the same cow family that produced breed matrons SAV Madame Pride 0075 and SAV Madame Pride 1093, HF Extra K205 115 has been a long-standing heifer bull in our program. He is also from the same family that produced SAV Madame Pride 2138, the $400,000 Harvestor daughter that topped the female division of the 2013 SAV Sale and was purchased by Herbster Angus Farms. “115” is the most unique heifer bull we have ever used. He has true calving ease and extreme growth. His progeny can rival any leader in the breed. In our herd, he posts 48BW@98, 48WW@100, and 10YW@104. “115” sold in last year’s sale and is currently working for Scholl Farms, NE.Sire of Lots 28-31.
The Lot 28 bull is the lowest birth weight EPD in the offering at -.3 with a birth weight ratio of 86. This bull has foundation Forever Lady genetics in his pedigree. LT Forever Lady 395 GDAR is his 3rd grandam. This pedigree is all about the female, possessing some of the greatest maternal genetics in the breed. Ed says you can throw these cows in with a badger and they’ll come out with a live calf. After you sleep all night calving his calves, keep every daughter! Recommended for heifers.
Here’s where Extra K205 115, the sire of this lot, does it again. Herbster Extra 485 is the #2 ADJ WW (822) and WW ratio (114) bull of the sale, all while maintaining a very modest birth weight. When “115” connects with the right cow, not only is he a calving ease bull, there is hidden extreme growth in his genetics. The Lot 29 bull ties together the greatest maternal genetics in the breed, and has excelled in an extremely competitive environment, going head-to-head with growth leaders Harvestor, International and Ringmaster. When “115” finds the right genetics to combine with, it’s growing magic. A full sister to the mother of Lot 29 produced Lots 30 and 31. Recommended for larger heifers and cows.

A calving ease prospect, Herbster Extra 489 is the highest $B son of HF Extra K205 115 in the sale. The dam of this bull was a member of one of the most consistent flushes in Herbster Angus Farms’ history combining the maternal great SAV Mandan with the Everelda family. Nine flush mate sisters have all gone on to be extremely productive cows; having perfect udders, ideal size and superior fleshing ability. We look for them to produce sale-topping progeny with proven growth and excellent maternal traits. A full sister to the mother of Lot 30 produced Lots 29 and 31. Recommended for heifers.
The second-highest weaning weight ratio son of his sire group, “4124” is another example of the low-birth, high-growth power of the best heifer bull we have ever used, HF Extra K205 115. His mother is a model Angus cow and is backed by generations of maternal excellence. She has a perfect udder! The Poss Total Impact calves have been a nice outcross to the SAV genetics in our cowherd, and the Lot 34 bull is a great indicator of that success. Out of another full sister to the mothers of the Lot 29, 30 and 31 bulls, he has added frame size and a growthy appearance. Recommended for cows.
Herbster Montreal 467 is the first son of the exciting new cow line addition at Herbster Angus Farms, the Wendy family. We selected his mother as the $60,000 valuation top-selling lot of the 2013 K BAR D Angus Female Sale. Herbster Angus Farms Females
Females at Herbster Angus Farms are genetically and phenotypically selected for udder structure, calving ease, fleshing ability, longevity, milking ability and growth. The donor females in our program contribute many of the genes that will be encompassed in the cattle that will sell as Angus-based replacements in this sale. They are the right kind of females to add profitability to your operation.
We will be selling approximately 40 head of Angus females either with calves at side or bred to calve to Registered Angus bulls. Most calves will be AI sired. A complete listing of the cows and cows with calves that will sell on March 28th will be available at the sale. All females sell as “unregistered.” Registration papers will be available upon request for a $100 per head fee.
Females that stem from the same cow lines as our2013 Nebraska State Fair Grand Champion Angus Female sell.

The Herbster Angus Farms program is built on honesty and value, from how we market and sell our cattle and semen, to the data turned into the American Angus Association. We package every straw of semen sold for $40 with 40 million cells per straw. The customer’s con-ception rate and herd betterment are always first in our mind.
“We had 100% conception rates with Herbster Angus Farms semen. The increase of reproduction efficiency and higher profitability on our farm is directly related to Herbster Angus Farms’ semen. The quality of the semen has given our program a better “bang for our buck.”
~ Odom Place Angus, Columbia, KY
“Herbster Angus Farms semen made our conception rates go through the roof! On a group of cows we bred to SAV International, we had a 100% conception rate. The strength of the semen produced at North American Breeders makes it easy to use superior genetics.”
~ Les Gale, Beaver, UT “When going to all the trouble to set up cows for AI, you want the best possible outcome. I purchased 10 straws of SAV International semen from Herbster Angus Farms in 2014 and had 10 live calves. At 40 million cells per straw, the high-quality semen helped me accomplish my goal of improving my conception rate.”
