Caution: Do not inhale vapours while pre-drying. Ensure good room ventilation so that vapours can be eliminated.
Use of Keradec improves the colour reproduction of ceramics on white PFMalloys.Keradec is used for gold coating of white metal surfaces in cervical areas, elimination of casting cavities, gold coating of occlusal surface and inlay imita tions (following ceramic baking). Keradec must not be used to improve the metal to ceramic bond.
Applying: Prepare metal framework, sandblast with clean aluminium oxide abrasive (100 – 120 µm), steamclean thoroughly and degrease with ethanol. Brush 2 coatings of Keradec thinly, but sufficiently masking, onto the dry surface of the crown.
Note: Stir the Keradec well immediately prior to use since the gold powder may settle when stored for long periods. Close the container well to prevent the Keradec paste from drying out. If the Keradec paste is too thick and cannot be easily applied, thin using the thinner liquid. Use the thinner liquid sparingly.
Pre-drying: Preheat the ceramic furnace to 600 °C. Place the metal framework in front or under (respectively) the opened furnace for 5 minutes so that the radiant heat can vaporize the thinner liquid in the Keradec. During the drying process, the Keradec will turn matt.
Drying: Keep the coated framework for 3 min at 600 °C in the closed porcelain furnace.
Firing: Raise the furnace temperature to 820 ºC without applying vacuum, and keep at 820 ºC for max. 1 minute depending on furnace type and firing program. Remove the metal framework.
Note: If the Keradec has diffused into the framework as a result of overheating, remove oxides and repeat procedure.
