I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Yo soy la vid, ustedes son las ramas. El que permanece en mí y yo en él dará mucho fruto, porque sin mí no puedes hacer nada.

ST. AUGUSTINE SPOTLIGHT - APRIL 29 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER The 11:30 am mass this weekend is the Baccalaureate Mass for the spring semester graduates of the University of Florida and Santa Fe College. This is a big deal! The mission of St. Augustine’s is to “Bring Christ to the Campus and the Campus to Christ.” What better milestone of us accomplishing this goal is there than sending off our graduates into the world as strong, faithful, practicing Catholics who will share their spiritual gifts that were grown during their time at St. Augustine’s? May it be said wherever our graduates go throughout the state, the nation, and the world, “What wonderful experience this fine, young person must have had to develop in them such strong faith, gratitude, and generosity of their blessings!” If you look at the numerous programs that the Student Center offers to our students, ranging from liturgical, spiritual, service, fellowship, and study, it is easy to see how they leave here on fire in their faith. If you look at their sacrifice and participation in all of these activities and programs, you can see how the Spirit is being poured out in our parish and student center communities. One of the most remarkable events is Night Fever, which is held on certain Friday nights after 9:30 pm mass. The students gather in front of the church on University Ave. and invite their fellow students (who are likely heading towards serious partying) in to pray and light a candle in front of the Blessed Sacrament in Exposition. Hundreds of passers-by are drawn in for an encounter with Jesus in our church. What an awesome witness to the campus community! Later this week, our graduates will be attending commencement ceremonies accompanied by their families. Let’s go out of our way to make them feel welcome in our faith community. Let us pray for our graduates as they move forward in their faith and career journeys. On a service note, with the graduates moving on and many of our student liturgical ministers going home for the summer, there is a need for new liturgical ministers. Please visit our web page to check out the various opportunities to serve God through the mass. Serving in hospitality, reading, being a Eucharistic minister, altar server, or in the choir immensely enriches your experience at mass. www.catholicgators.org/current-liturgical-minister-resources Paul A. Composer’s Corner 5rd Sunday of Easter (Year B) – April 29th, 2018
The inspiration for my setting of this week’s Responsorial Psalm came from a chord progression that I had recently discovered. It is a progression of more interesting chords extrapolated out of a classic VI-ii-V-I progression; it also happened to fit the text for this week’s psalm very well. Also, here is a sneak-peak at what else is going on behind the scenes: I am still working on writing hymns, but I am also composing my first mass setting. I am just getting started, but I have enough musical material to weave a setting of the or-dinary. This will be one of my more challenging musical undertakings; it is a very exciting time to be writing! As always, thank you for your interest!
Yours respectfully, Zachary Landress

What Is a Home Mission Diocese? Home mission dioceses are those dioceses in the United States and its territories and former territories that cannot provide basic pastoral services without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass and the sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters, and lay people. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses are considered home missions. Support Catholic Home Mission Appeal (CHMA), and lift up the lives—and faith—of our brothers and sisters around the country. For more information about the Catholic Home Mission, visit www.usccb.org/home-missions.
