POSEIDON

In Greek mythology, Poseidon was god of the sea, the counterpart of the Ro-man god, Neptune. The krewe originally paraded in the daytime and moved to a night start in 2018. This group is not connected with the popular West Bank Krewe of Poseidon that paraded from 1959-2002. www.poseidonslidell.com

mardi grassceneyear there are six parades on Sunday, February 9, in New Orleans East, Slidell, Me-tairie, Bywater, the Marigny, and the French Quarter.

METAIRIE Last summer the 40-year old Krewe

of Caesar, Metairie’s biggest and argu-ably best parade, announced it would suspend operations for 2020, but hinted it might return in 2021 in Metai-rie or Kenner. Centurions move from the second Friday to Caesar’s spot on the fi rst Saturday. And after 30 years in Metairie, the Krewe of Isis returns to its original home in Kenner where its fi rst seven parades were staged.

Except on Fat Tuesday, all parades will employ the new route, which now starts on Bonnabel and Feronia and ends at the Clearview Shopping

Center, new home of

for fi ve years, the Krewe of Atlas returns as part of a

doubleheader with Kings on Sun-day, February 16.

The biggest story in Jefferson Parish is the new Magical Krewe of MadHat-ters, which shows great promise thanks to solid leadership, a big membership, celebrity riders and a very healthy budget. Many innovations will be on display, with plans to engage the crowds in some interaction along the parade route.

Sponsored by Jefferson Parish Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken, “Mardi Gras Moola” is a new throw to be available from all Metairie parades. These wooden doubloons may be ex-

changed for discounts at participating business Jefferson Parish businesses. Details at www.MardiGrasMoola.com

ST. TAMMANY PARISHThe Original Krewe of Orpheus in

Mandeville decided to take a year off but promises to return in 2021.

Mardi Gras Decorators reports that they now produce fl oats for Selene, Slidellians, Poseidon, Dionysus in Slidell, Eve and Olympia in Covington, and Argus in Metairie.

Dionysus celebrates its 35th anniver-sary this year.

Long time captain Allen Little has turned over the leadership of Perseus in Slidell to Scott Tramel. Look for the club to honor Little in some signifi cant way this year.

Unable to resolve a dispute with the Mayor over their parade route,

With nearly 800 co-ed members, this fi ve-year-old club is now St. Tammany Parish’s biggest Carnival organization. The krewe plans a 31-fl oat parade with seven tandems

and one triple, produced by Mardi Gras Decorators. The theme is LOUISIANA SATUR-DAY NIGHT, with fl oat subjects such as Lagniappe, LSU Sports, and Louisiana Swamp. Charles and Paula Conti reign as Poseidon V royalty. Ronnie Kole will ride as Grand Marshal. This krewe has wowed the parade critics with its outstanding lineup of performing groups, includ-ing the Honey Island Clydesdales, Golden Sioux Mardi Gras Indians, Mande Milkshakers, Oui Dats, Nyxettes, Muff-a-lottas, the Dance Connection, Chairy Chicks, Chapter K, Disco Amigos, Fat City Drum Corps, and NOLA Showgirls. The Southern University “Human Jukebox” marching band and the 610 Stompers will return this year. Many krewe logo throws will be available, including lighted items and plush tridents, pink/blue dolphins, large plush seahorses, and doubloons in four colors. The procession features more than 70 units. The krewe’s annual ball was held July 27, 2019, at Mandeville’s Castine Center.
