It’s half way through what has been a busy and exciting term 2. Teachers will soon be
writing students’ reports which will be forwarded home at the end of this term.
The recent announcement by the WA Government that cyclists of all ages will legally be allowed to ride on footpaths is a welcome recognition of how dangerous Perth's roads have become for recreational riders. Perhaps this is an opportunity to reconsider if it is appropriate for your child to ride (perhaps with you) to school. Riding or walking may go
some way toward reducing our parking issues.

LOW CARBON (COLOW CARBON (CO22 & U) STUDENT GROUP& U) STUDENT GROUP
Our Low Carbon Student Group met last week to discuss and vote on a name for the group and for team role and responsibility positions. This group is now officially called
APS CO2 & U. The students also discussed the range of roles and what certain
positions will be responsible for when they meet in the future.
One of the next jobs for the CO2 & U Team is to design a logo for their group. They are also looking forward to the day of Sustainability Leadership training coming up next
Tuesday. Congratulations to these students for their commitment to this group.

SISTER SCHOOL PROJECSISTER SCHOOL PROJECTS COMPLETEDTS COMPLETED
Terima kasih from SD 4 Kaba-Kaba to the wonderful community of Aveley Primary School. Last year a few staff and parents paid a visit to our sister school in Bali. We collaboratively agreed to provide new toilets, books and shelves for our English Centre and fans for the classrooms. Hence, funds from our Lapathon were provided for the projects to proceed.
We are happy to announce that the projects are now completed with staff and students in SD 4 Kaba-Kaba are enjoying the facilities. A big thank you to everyone who made these meaningful projects a success. We hope in the near future, Aveley Primary School can continue to provide
assistance to those in need.

MR HARVIE’S SPORTS RMR HARVIE’S SPORTS REPORT EPORT
Term 2 Sport
What a busy start to term 2 we have had. AFL, soccer, netball and hockey are just some of the winter sports that we are focusing on this term. We have been fortunate enough to host a variety of special guests to assist us in progressing our skills within these
sports.
Nick Corrigan, from Nick Corrigan’s Soccer School has been taking the pre-primarys for a five-week soccer program. Dan Curtis from the Swan Districts Football Club has been taking the year 2s for AFL Will McGuiness from the West Coast Eagles ran an AFL clinic for the year 1 and year 3 students
Ryan from Hot Shot Tennis took years pre-primary to year 5 for a tennis clinic.
Students from years three to six, have also been preparing for cross country which is this Friday, 27 May. Fitness sessions on Monday mornings before school have been well attended and I have seen a great improvement in fitness levels and have no
doubt this will assist students during the cross country carnival.
After School Sport has been a fantastic success thus far and a great opportunity for the students involved to further enhance their sport skills. These after school sports include tee ball, soccer with the Perth Glory, a dodgeball tournament and fitness/cross
country training.
In Senior sport on Friday afternoons, years four to six are currently training for the upcoming Interschool Winter Carnival in week nine. This carnival includes AFL, soccer, hockey and netball. The coaches have been pleased with the students
progression and understanding of the games and are confident that Aveley can have some great results on carnival day.
Lastly, thank you to all the parents that have offered to assist in any of these programs or events that are taking place this term.
A massive thank you must also go to all parents for supporting your child’s involvement in before and after school sports.
For further information on anything sports related or about what is happening in sport, see the Aveley Facebook page for updates
and reminders or do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

WASTEWATERWASTEWATER
Wastewater is used water that has been used inside homes, businesses and industries. It is water that has come from showers, baths, sinks, washing machines and toilets and is 99.97% water by mass. Wastewater collects in pipes inside a home or business and then travels to a wastewater treatment plant to be cleaned. Wastewater should not be confused with stormwater which, as the name implies, is rainfall runoff collected in storm drains and other catchments.
Treatment process
The treatment of wastewater goes through a number of stages:
wastewater enters a treatment plant, where debris and large objects are removed using filter screens, collected and disposed of. wastewater is then transferred into tanks where solid matter sinks to form sludge. the wastewater flows then has oxygen added to help break down and remove any organic pollutants. the remaining wastewater enters into settlement tanks where remaining sludge sinks to the bottom. water is returned into the ocean, recycled for use on the irrigation of gardens and parks or returned into the aquifer.

Hello Parents, Carers and Friends,
The Book Fair has concluded and we would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped during this time. It is great to see so many children browsing and choosing ‘real’ books when so much is done online these days. A percentage of the proceeds from the Book
Fair enable the library to get new reading material, plus many families donated books to the library.
Our most recent P&C meeting was full of discussion regarding fundraising with the main topic being our Quiz Night. The Quiz Night will be held in early September and we are starting to ask for donations of prizes. If you or your business would like to donate something for the event we will make sure that your donation is acknowledged and well publicised to the school and local community. Please contact the P&C member for
more information.
Also at the meeting we authorised payment to the school for 50% of the Mathletics licence fee. Students benefit so much from Mathletics with it being a fun way to learn maths and the P&C is happy to help the school retain this valuable learning resource. We also authorised a payment of 50% of the cost for some new portable shelters to be used at sports days and other outdoor events. Shelters are not provided by the Education Department but are a necessity for
outdoor events and again the P&C are pleased to help with the cost.
When the Uniform Shop closed we were left with many packs of socks. We will be selling the surplus socks at next Thursday's
assembly on 2 June. White or grey socks mostly small sizes with three pairs in a packet for $3.
Many people have purchased the 2016-17 Entertainment Book and are taking advantage of the big savings. Please support the school by getting your copy via the link on the Aveley P&C Facebook page, or if you visit the Entertainment Book website just search for the Aveley Primary School selling page, or you can type in this link: https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/91183e. We have some books at the school so you can order online and pick up the book from the school. Please check the display in the school office for a sample book and
order forms.
Due to events beyond our control school banking didn’t happen the last few Tuesdays, so our sincere apologies for that. Everything should be back to normal from next Tuesday, so come and see Helen from 8:15am in the undercover area. If you can help out with the banking please see Helen Baker as it would be great if we had someone to do the job when she is unavailable. Banking helps
the children to practice responsibility with money and helps them with goal setting, both very important!
We would like to remind you that the P&C plays a very important part in the school process and it is with the help of parents and friends who volunteer their time helping out that creates an effective P&C. Please join us to help the school provide a better learning environment for your children. Any amount of your time or skills donated will
be appreciated by the whole school community.
To contact the P&C or to keep up with what we are doing you can email us at [email protected], find our Facebook page,
see our news in the newsletter or approach any of our committee members.
Keep an eye out for this term’s Sausage Sizzle lunch order form coming home soon. This time we will be offering a gluten free
option for those that need it.
Thanks from your Aveley Primary P&C.
