Occupational Accident FAQ
WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE? 1. Occ/Acc is an insurance product designed for Independent Contractors to provide
coverage for medical expenses, loss of wages, and provide benefits resulting from a loss due to a work related accident or injury.
WHAT TYPE OF COVERAGE DOES OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE PROVIDE?
2. There are three components of Occ/Acc:
1. Accidental Death and Dismemberment: A benefit paid monthly to the Independent Contractor or their
beneficiaries in the event of the loss of use of certain body parts or their death.
OneBeacon Insurance Company pays up to $250,000
2. Medical: When a driver is involved in an accident requiring medical treatment the
medical expense coverage will pay for the medical costs up to the limits of the policy for two years.
OneBeacon Insurance Company pays up to $1,000,000
3. Disability:
Temporary Total Disability: Partial wage replacement benefit paid to the Independent Contractor in the
event of an injury resulting in an inability for the Independent Contractor to work during the time they are recovering from the injury. – Maximum Benefit Period – 104 weeks
Continuous Total Disability (after Temporary Total Disability Period of 104 weeks):
Partial wage replacement benefit paid to the Independent Contractor in the event of an injury resulting in the complete inability for the Independent Contractor to work in their qualified occupation during the time they are recovering from the injury. – Maximum Benefit Period – up to Social Security Retirement Age
If an Insured Person sustains a Covered Injury after the Insured Person’s normal Social Security retirement age, as determined by federal law, the Insured Person cannot qualify for Continuous Total Disability.

Please consult any Evidence of Coverage and/or coverage summaries provided to you by your insurance company, or please contact TrueNorth for a copy of your insurance policy(s) and all applicable endorsements for the exact terms and conditions of your policy(s).
HOW ARE MY TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY PAYMENTS CALCULATED? One Beacon pays 70% of Average Weekly Wage For Independent Contractors: AWW is Thirty-three percent (33%) of the gross income the Insured Person received in the prior year as shown in his or her federal income tax return with schedules or 1099s, divided by 52, regardless of his or her prior occupation. If the Insured Person worked less than fifty (50) weeks during the prior year, then thirty-three percent (33%) of the gross income received in the prior year as shown in his or her federal income tax return with schedules or 1099s, divided by the number of weeks worked, regardless of his or her prior occupation. The Insured Person will have to produce proof, which is satisfactory to Us, of the number of weeks worked, if he or she is claiming less than fifty (50) weeks.. If a Co-driver’s federal income tax return with schedules does not report gross income for the Co-Driver, the Co-Driver’s gross income shall be deemed to be fifty percent (50%) of the gross income reported by the Independent Contractor unless the Co-Driver can produce records satisfactory to us proving his or her actual gross income: Maximum Weekly: $700.
EX: $120,000(after expenses) x 33% = $39,600 x 70% = 27,720 / 52 = $533.07/week One Beacon pays 70% of Average Weekly Wage For Contract Drivers: AWW is Seventy-five percent (75%) of the gross income the Insured Person received in the prior year as shown in his or her federal income tax return with schedules or 1099s or similar wage reporting documents divided by 52 regardless of his or her prior occupation. If the Insured Person worked less than fifty (50) weeks during the prior year, then seventy-five percent (75%) of the gross income received in the prior year as shown in his or her federal income tax return with schedules or 1099s or similar wage reporting documents divided by the number of weeks worked, regardless of his or her prior occupation. The Insured Person will have to produce proof, which is satisfactory to Us, of the number of weeks worked if he or she is claiming less than fifty (50) weeks. EX: $40,000 x 75% = $30,000 x 70% = 21,000 / 52 = $403.85/week IS THE MEDICAL PORTION OF MY OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE PRIMARY OR SECONDARY WITH ONE BEACON INSURANCE COMPANY? If you do NOT have other insurance:
If you do NOT have other insurance (Ex: Health, PIP, Med pay, etc), your One Beacon Occupational Accident policy will become primary
10 | The information contained in this document is intended to be a guide only. Please consult any Evidence of Coverage and/or coverage summaries provided to you by your insurance company, or please contact TrueNorth for a copy of your insurance policy(s) and all applicable endorsements for the exact terms and conditions of your policy(s).
If you do have other insurance: If you do have other insurance, you will need to report your medical claim to your
other insurance provider and One Beacon. This will assist both your other insurance provider and One Beacon in coordinating benefits and making sure all of your Accident Medical Expense benefits have been addressed.
The OneBeacon Accident Medical Expense benefit is excess ONLY if you have other insurance (ex. Health, PIP, Med pay, etc.)
If your other insurance only pays a portion of your medical expenses, One Beacon will pay the remaining balance.
If you have other insurance, One Beacon will also pay any out of pocket medical expenses you incur such as co-pays and deductibles
Remember: It is extremely important to share your insurance plan information with both OneBeacon and your other insurance provider so they can communicate and coordinate the Accident Medical Expense benefits.
HOW DO I FILE A CLAIM AND WHAT SHOULD I HAVE READILY AVAILABLE?
In order to file a claim simply call OneBeacon Insurance Company at 1-866-568-2233 ext: 1; this number may also be used by the treating doctor to verify coverage, if necessary.
