PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The St John’s Innovation Leadership Programme provides a high-impact development experience, that will enable delegates to drive innovation through understanding and applying the science of innovation leadership.

The Programme provides an accelerated induction into the process and culture necessary for innovation in professional services firms. As sectors evolve amidst a dynamic, fast-changing landscape, the modules will support participants to apply innovation best practice from around the world, underpinned with the knowledge and confidence to succeed.

Outcomes will include an effective process and associated tools to use when innovating in professional service firms. Attendees will gain insight into the contemporary people development techniques that will foster a pro-innovation culture for professional firms, who are now facing much more change than previously. The Programme will take full account of the unique aspects of professional services firms, such as partnership structure, the professionals’ sense of identity and attitudes to risk.

Delivered by an experienced and professional team, brain science research and other contemporary techniques will be utilised throughout. This will provide participants and their organisations with a significant leadership advantage in a competitive world.

St Johns Innovation Centre has been at the heart of the world-leading Cambridge Phenomenon, which has changed the world in a wide range of sectors. Experts from the Centre will deliver modules in partnership with the experienced faculty of Spiranti, who bring exceptional practical experience from a wide range of professional services environments.

Our approach will combine robust research into the science of leadership to help attendees focus on the key aspects of their personal approach to innovation. This will enable them to leverage success in their wider organisation. Innovation benchmarking and relevant case studies will also be included.

The Programme includes ongoing practical support for real innovation projects that are happening in the firms of participants, as well as lifetime support for all participants, as they progress innovation in their work environments.

DANIEL DEARING, ST JOHN’S INNOVATION CENTRE, CAMBRIDGEDaniel is an experienced innovation consultant, assessor and mentor. Daniel has a long career in the design, development and commercialisation of innovative technology. He is a Mentor to Anglia Ruskin University and Cambridge Leadership College, Independent Technical Advisor to Innovate UK, and sits on the committee of Surrey University’s Impact Accelerator Account.

DAVID GILL, CHIEF EXECUTIVE, ST JOHN’S INNOVATION CENTRE, CAMBRIDGEDavid previously set up and ran the Innovation Unit at HSBC Bank in London, then served as an executive director of a venture fund focused on early-stage, technology-based investments. Educated at Cambridge, he was called to the Bar, before working in corporate finance. A Sloan Fellow at Stanford, he is non-executive director of several start-ups and chair of ideaSpace, the Cambridge University pre-incubator.

ANNETTE MULLER, SPIRANTI, LONDONAnnette is a global marketing, customer experience and innovation leader. She creates business value growth through a customer-centric, integrated approach to marketing, brand and customer strategy development. Her expertise in B2B and B2C marketing is combined with cross-sector experience, enables her to diagnose an organisation’s innovation challenges quickly and create actionable strategies.

DAVID SALES, ST JOHN’S INNOVATION CENTRE, CAMBRIDGEDavid has over 20 years’ experience in international business and delivers innovation training across the world. He has a first degree from Cambridge and an MBA from Warwick. David is known for his relaxed but focused approach to achieving high performance. He brings the latest brain science understanding to assist delegates to improve their innovation skills. David sits on the IoD National Council.

MARK SMITH, SPIRANTI, LONDONMark uses deep market insight, sharp strategic thinking and a rich understanding of behavioural change to create pragmatic and creative solutions to help professional services firms thrive and adapt in today’s competitive market. His insight comes from ten years’ practice as a lawyer, MBA and MSc dissertations on law firm strategy and executive coaching experience with senior lawyers and law firm leaders.

PAUL SMITH, SPIRANTI, LONDONPaul was Chairman of Eversheds Sutherland for four years. He led the merger of Eversheds and Sutherland, creating a global firm with revenues over $1 billion. Paul trained with Freshfields in London and then worked in the Litigation department specialising in International Arbitration. He is best known for his work with in house legal departments. Paul has been recognised in the Hot 100 by the Lawyer magazine and awarded Lawyer of the Year by Legal Business magazine.

NIGEL SPENCER, SAID BUSINESS SCHOOL, OXFORD UNIVERSITYFor 13 years, Nigel led L&D functions in two global law firms, creating award-winning, innovative leadership development programmes. He was also part of the team that built the first London-based innovation hub in a global firm. An accredited executive coach, Nigel carries out practice-based research on systemic change, the effectiveness of learning in the workplace, and the link between learning and business strategy.
