Launched in 2003, Scion Installation is a revolutionary art tour featuring work from an

unprecedented collective of contemporary artists. For 4 years the tour has evolved, and

each year the medium with which the artists showcase their work evolves. For Installation

4, the theme “It’s a Beautiful World” was interpreted by each artist in one of four mediums;

painting, photography, sculpture, and collage. Scion Installation 4 has visited 9 cities around

the country with its final stop in Los Angeles where all of the artwork will be auctioned off the

to the public. 100% of the money raised from the charity auction will go to Art From Scrap.

For more information on the tour, the artists, the artwork and details from previous years

Art From Scrap (AFS) is a non-profit art and environmental education program in Santa

Barbara, California with a mission of promoting a greater understanding of environmental

issues and encouraging creative expression in the arts. Children and adults in Santa Barbara

County and beyond participate in a variety of programs including Green Schools environmental

education, a community Arts Center, and a Reuse retail store.

Hands-on art activities and shows at the AFS Gallery encourage the innate creativity of

thousands of people each year - proving that each one of us is an artist. AFS encourages kids

and adults to rethink the way they view “discarded” materials and to seek creative solutions

for their reuse through Art Workshops, Birthday Parties, free art activities at many community

events, and at shows at the AFS Gallery. Our major fundraiser is an Assemblage Art Event held

in July - featuring artworks by many local assemblage artists, an auction, and entertainment.

Art From Scrap is one of the leading environmental education organizations in Santa Barbara,

California. Each year AFS Green Schools reaches over 15,000 children through lessons and field

trips. Students learn the waste reduction methods of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Compost,

pollution prevention actions to improve creek and ocean water quality, and contribute to a

sustainable community through organic gardening and service learning projects.

The AFS Reuse store is a great low-cost option for clean, reusable materials when making your

own arts and crafts projects, holiday decorations, costumes and other creative endeavors. The

selection of materials changes constantly and you’ll be amazed at what you can find! Local

businesses donate thousands of pounds of materials each year, keeping them from ending up

in the Santa Barbara County landfill.

in Paris in 1981 and now followed by many artists across the world. He introduced to

the urban art landscape the concept of creating life size figures of people.

BOOKS IIII

One thing about BooksIIII is that he does not like writing of himself in third person

or over sensationalizing his position. Therefore, my greatest influence over the

years has been my family’s history and collections. never the less, graffiti is a

huge influence, but what has become my greatest interest are the most rotten get

ups, beautiful hand styles, and the aging process. The layering the streets attain

reminds me of my grandmother’s scrap booking and these simple methods are

what I have taken for myself as style.

CODY HUDSOn

DALEK

James Marshall, also known as Dalek. Born in 1968, the painter has made a

reputation with a distinctive and innovative style, unlike any other Pop-Inspired

animation and cartoons, his remarkably complex compositions resemble a direct

lineage to the expressive Japanese Superflat movement, and the zany everyday

apparitions found in nature.

to the Congo, Africa to everywhere in between.

DAVID ELLIS

through time like music, where beats are orchestrated and performed on

“drum paintings” stretched and tuned to bass, snare, etc. and played via analog

drum machines propelled by air, where player pianos meet SP1200s meet

improvisational wild style sign painting.

raised in Florida, Joshua lives and works in San Diego, CA.

RETnA

When Los Angeles-based graffiti artist RETnA’s work first appeared in the mid-

nineties, what made it stand apart from the rest was its unique layering. His color

palette was so intricate, so carefully chosen, his pieces often looked to have been

daubed on with a paint-brush. Quite the achievement when you consider he was

painting on walls, trains, bridges, and freeway overpasses in the black of night.

ROn EnGLISH

Ron English, a new York-based painter, has exhibited in galleries and museums
