From the development of new markets to emerging tech and consumer trends, hear from our panellists about the shifts and developments that they believe will ultimately shape our industry for the better. Humza Arshad is a British and Pakistani YouTube comedian based in the UK. Widely known for his "Diary of a Badman" series on YouTube. Humza also uses his self-deprecating comedy to tackle difficult issues like extremism, diversity mental health and gang violence. Amy Lamé, originally from New Jersey, arrived in London in 1992. She has a long and successful track record as a leader and collaborator in the cultural and creative industries, and is now London’s first Night Czar. Yana Peel is CEO of the Serpentine Galleries, the internationally-recognised public arts organisation championing free access to art, architecture and design for all. She is also Chair of the Intelligence Squared Group, the global forum for live debate which she previously ran. Zygi Kamasa is Chief Executive Officer of Lionsgate UK & Europe. During his tenure, he has built the company into a leading theatrical distributor, a premier independent film brand and a profitable and diversified force in the UK filmed entertainment marketplace. The future of the creative workforce What does the future hold for the creative workforce? Which jobs will still exist and who will be employed to do them? What skills will we need, and how will creativity be taught and what can we learn from countries around the world? This session will interrogate the vital role of creative skills and unpack how AI might impact the creative industries and how we can all start to prepare. Marquise Stillwell, the founder and principal of Openbox, created a company that represents a culmination of more than 20 years of experience in designing and implementing fresh models for businesses and cultural organisations. Alex Beard has worked in education for a decade and is fortunate to spend his time travelling the world in search of the practices that will shape the future of learning. The future of the creative consumer The world is changing, the middle classes are expanding and affordable technology has fundamentally shifted the nature ofconsumption. Can design and creativity save the world?  The global challenges facing our world require genuinely innovative solutions. The creative industries are uniquely placed to workwith other sectors to mastermind and design the products and initiatives that will safeguard the future of our planet. As societyhas become increasingly aware of the environmental impacts of consumption, a desire for sustainably produced products ispushing companies and governments to think differently about how they work, and why. 

Becky Schutt leads DevelopingInclusive and CreativeEconomies (DICE), an ambitiousprogramme that supports thedevelopment of creative andsocial enterprises in the UK andfive key emerging economies:Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia,Pakistan, and South Africa. 

Tita Larasati is a productdesigner, trained in Indonesiaand The Netherlands. In 2008,she and about 40 other peoplethat represented a variety ofcreative communities inBandung founded BandungCreative City Forum (BCCF). 

Creative industries new markets: developing countries Using Indonesia as a case study, this session will explore how developing countries are combining ‘purpose and profit’ through anew wave of creative and social enterprises. How  are UK companies supporting – and benefitting from - these initiatives?

Eliza Easton is the PrincipalPolicy Researcher in theCreative Economy and DataAnalytics team at Nesta, theUK's leading innovationfoundation. She works with theeconomists and data scientistsin her team to analyse anddevelop policies for the creativeeconomy and then with policy-makers to see them enacted. 

Justine Leconte is a Frenchfashion and jewellery designerbased in Berlin, Germany. Hereponymous label focuses onEuropean production andsourcing, while her collectionsare available online globally. In2015, she created a YouTubechannel dedicated to fashion, tomake it more accessible andbreak the myth of designersbeing disconnected from reality.

Adam Goswell leads technologyresearch and development atLush. He’s at the forefront ofinnovating the company’sapproach to tech, and iscurrently heading up thedevelopment of new tools usingAI, machine learning andaugmented reality. Mostrecently, this has includeddeveloping AI technology tohelp remove packaging fromcosmetics.

Safia Qureshi is an award-winning architect, innovationdesigner and educator. CupClubwas born of Safia’s interest intechnology and design and howtheir intersection can boost thecircular economy. She ispassionate about empoweringother founders, designers andtechnologists (women inparticular) to think circular.

The future of cities: How can creativity and creative thinking respond to social challenges?  How can creativity and creative thinking respond to social challenges? Will our cities be able to support an ageing population, theneed for clean growth, and the opportunities presented by AI and the future of mobility? Our panel will discuss these issues andmore against the backdrop of the vitality of creativity and culture for long-term placemaking. 

Having graduated from ESSECBusiness School in France, AliceBlack began her career inbanking in New York. Herexperience spans work in bothnational and independentmuseums and the public andprivate sectors. Alice wasappointed Director of theDesign Museum in December2016.

Hannah Barry is the founder ofBold Tendencies CommunityInterest Company and HannahBarry Gallery, both of which arebased in Peckham, SouthLondon. For more than a decadeBold Tendencies hastransformed its car park homewith a programme ofcontemporary art, orchestralmusic, opera, dance andarchitectural projects includingFrank’s Cafe and the StrawAuditorium designed byPractice Architecture.

Alex Lifschutz formed LifschutzDavidson Sandilands in 1986and the firm has gone on to winover 90 design awards - forlong-standing workregenerating London’s SouthBank to innovative office,community and arts buildings,new sustainable suburbs andhigh profile residential andmixed use schemes. Ongoingprojects range from amasterplan for 11,000 homes atBarking Riverside, to the firstbuilding for UCL in East Londonand a public art project lighting15 Thames bridges with theAmerican artist Leo Villareal.

Soft power and the major influencers in 2018*  A country’s soft power is its ability to make friends and influence people not through military might, but through its most attractive assets, notably culture, education, language and values. To strike out alone will require a positive and inclusivenarrative to take to the rest of the world and the right structural policies to keep Britain attractive for foreign investors, touristsand students. This session will look at how investment in soft power can ensure people continue to look to the UK as a world-leading place for the creative industries and for doing business.

Ciarán Devane became chiefexecutive of the British Councilin January 2015. Ciarán hasfocused on aligning the BritishCouncil behind key themesimportant to the UK,demonstrating the contributionof cultural relations to the UK’ssecurity, prosperity andinfluence, and strengthening theorganisation’s capacity andcapability across its network inover 100 countries.

Ekow Eshun is a writer, criticand curator. He is Chairman ofthe Fourth PlinthCommissioning Group,overseeing London’s mostsignificant public artprogramme, and CreativeDirector of Calvert 22Foundation, a leading arts spacededicated to the contemporaryculture of Eastern Europe.

Asma Elbadawi is the words first Leeds Finalist, a national poetry competition partnered byBBC Radio 1Xtra and the Roundhouse, she has poetry pieces published in the MuslimWomen's Anthology titled ' The things I would tell you', and a short play commissioned byFreedom Studios. Some of her performances include The Bradford Literature Festivals,Liverpool Acoustic Festival, Word of Mouth, London to name a few across England withother performances in both Sudan and Malaysia. Her work has been featured on BBC Sport, BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and for successfullycampaigning FIBA to allow Muslim women to wear hijabs in professional basketball she hashad interviews with major media outlets such as AJ+ Al Jazeera S24 Channel 4 andBuzzfeed.
