FAMILY MINISTRY AND OUTREACH CENTER Denise Hussein, FM & OC Director

We are so excited to announce VBS is on! Big Difference It’s at your House.

That’s right! We bring VBS to you, your kids and your friends.

It’s all online & we supply everything you need.

This summer, July 21 - 23, we’ll be using a quarantine-friendly VBS called BOLT.

It's going to be SO MUCH FUN!

After our earlier VBS meetings this year with Becky Harvey & Tara Clearman (VBS

Directors), we had selected Group’s Rocky Railway. We were very excited about doing it this summer and

Becky had already envisioned the tracks & trains throughout our church. This VBS lends itself to being onsite

at BBC. So we are saving the Rocky Railway curriculum for next year. During this outbreak we researched for

other possibilities of providing the children a safe way for a VBS experience. We looked at many options but

the best one seems to be BOLT and economical. It’s a 3 day VBS, Tues – Thurs. The families are going to play

games, do origami, eat snacks, and learn what it means to listen to, focus on, and follow Jesus. If you want

to get a better idea of what BOLT is, you can watch the Day 2 sample video here. (But don’t let your kiddos

see it just yet - we want to save the fun for later.) There’s something else we’re really excited about - this

could also be an amazing outreach opportunity. If families feel com-

fortable gathering with more people, they can invite as many neigh-

bors, friends, and family to their house for BOLT as they would like.

It’s such an easy and fun way to share the good news of Jesus with

our community. We also plan on doing an outdoor gathering for

Friday afternoon, possibly at the beach. The VBS staff has been con-

tacted and we’ll all get together to assign different tasks soon.

We still mail weekly lesson packets to the children. We continue to

get good feedback from the kids. The Students and their leaders

have had the weekly ZOOM meetings. Based on the Re-Gathering

schedule we will assume onsite Kids Family Ministry starting August 12th. We continue to review Family Min-

istry programs, looking for ways to improve what we bring to the kid for our Sunday School Bible Study clas-

ses and mid-week programs.

The Outreach Center will reopen July 12th. It will be limited to the following scheduled activities:

Get Fit M-W-F (8:30 - 9:30 AM) T-Thu (8 - 9 AM)

Pickleball with scheduled appointments only M - F (10 - 3 PM no drop ins)

Open Walking M- F (3 - 4 PM)

We will be taking temperatures when you arrive and

encourage safe distancing. Masks required when not

involved in activity.

The new hours are 8 - 4 PM (M-F) no Saturdays. There’ s

much work to do so we can keep this a safe environment

but we are so glad we will be seeing all our friends at the

OC soon.

We thank God for His blessings and His protection.

Denise

Look who wandered into the Littles Room.

Will you help us name this new visitor?

Send us your suggestions for our friendly alligator.

We haven’t spent much time working in the library during the past three months and I was

thinking that there isn’t much to report. However, Sherry reminded me that we need to let you

know we are still here and open for business. We are thankful for the books in our library and that

we are able to make them available to you. We have not purchased any new books since this time

of virus concern, but a few people have donated books that are new on the shelf. We are thankful

for these donations and how they enrich our library inventory.

Three new fiction books are Where Angels Go, The Trouble With Angels, and The Shop On

Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber.

Non-fiction books that have been recently donated are:

Before and After by Judy Christie and Lisa Wingate, a follow up of orphans from the Tennessee

orphanage written about in Before We Were Yours;

More To Your Story, regarding Christian Life, by Max Lucado;

How People Grow by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. This book includes what the Bible

reveals about personal growth;

Weaving by Evelyn Hinds. A book and DVD dramatic presentation about the journey of Corrie ten

Boom;

The Joy of Marriage God’s Way by Beverly LaHaye. A book about Christian living and the spiritual

relationships of married couples;

The Power of Praying Together by Stormie Omartian and Jack Hayford. This book is written as a

help to understanding the power of prayer in public worship and prayer meetings. This is a subject

that Pastor Denny has been leading us in on Wednesday nights for quite some time;

The Woman Within by Vonette Zachary Bright is a book about the power and joy of a woman’s life

in Christ.

These books can be found on the top of the Children’s bookcase for the time being. We try to

make easy access for new books during the first few weeks for your convenience in finding them..

Again, we thank our pastors and staff for their leadership during this time of separation and

preparing for return to corporate worship. We definitely miss each being together and pray for

healthy solutions to the present situation. Thank you for your consideration of others in the use of

mask and hand sanitation.

LIZ BUCHANAN

This sweet, bubbly young woman is a Texan with a

capital “T”. Tyler, Texas is her hometown, but she

completed HS in Marshall. She attended Tarleton

University in Stephenville, studying Animal Science, but

left there and moved to Texarkana, TX to attend Texarkana

College. There, she attained an Associate’s Degree in

General Science, with certification in Cosmetology!! She

met her husband, Zackary, while attending Tarleton; she

was his resident assistant for the dorm in which she lived

(shhhh don’t tell!!!!). After Zackary moved back to

Texarkana, he became very ill and was in ICU for a month

but, thankfully, he had complete recovery. Approximately

six months after his illness, they became engaged and were married in September 2015.

September has been a commemorative month for the Buchanans! They began dating

September 9th, 2013; were married September 7th, 2015; Baby Emma was born September

8th, 2017, and they moved to the Village September, 2019.

Liz and Zack have a very active life: Liz is a banker at the Grand Ave. branch of U.S. Bank

and works on Saturday as a cosmetologist at Eastgate Salon near the East gate. Zackary is

District Manager for the Family Dollar stores. Liz attends and sings for our Contemporary

Sunday Service. They live in walking distance to the church so when Liz visited and was so

beautifully received, there was no question of where their church home would be.

For fun, they like walking the trails; they plan to kayak on Lake Balboa this summer. They

just enjoy God’s creation and are thankful to live here.

Please make a point to meet Liz. You will enjoy her exuberance!

Lindsey was born in Hot Springs and grew

up in Jessieville. She attended Jessieville

School from preschool through the 12th grade.

She then attended Harding University where

she received her Bachelor of Science in

Nursing. Currently, Lindsey is a Registered

Nurse at CHI in Hot Springs where she is

dedicated to and loves her work on the

pediatric/medical-surgical floor.

Lindsey’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with friends and family,

playing with her two dogs, Snoopy and Charlie, and watching Netflix. She enjoys Mexican

food, Chick-Fil-A, a Sonic sweet tea, and a good chocolate chip cookie.

When Teylor Arndt became the Associate Worship Pastor, Lindsey began to visit Balboa

with him. She loved the friendly atmosphere of our Church and actually began to enjoy

coming to church. She is so thankful that everyone has been so nice and welcoming to her and

she loves her new church family. She and Teylor are now engaged to be married and we look

forward to knowing her better and sharing her life in the future.

We welcome this lovely young lady into our church family.

FRANK & JUDY MASSINGILL

Frank and Judy moved their membership to Balboa

Baptist Church in July of 2019 and both of them are

now singing in the choir.. Aren’t we blessed? They

came to us from Second Baptist in Conway, AR.

When they retired, they decided to move to the

Village, as Judy’s parents, Bob and Jean Schooler,

were living here. Bob and Jean now live at Good

Sam’s.

Judy was born in Norman, OK. Her dad’s work for an oil company allowed the family to

live in many interesting places such as Wyoming, Utah (where she was saved at age 8),

Indonesia, Singapore, and finally Snyder, TX where she graduated from high school. Judy

worked for 35 years in banking...working her way up to Branch Manager at Conway

Centennial Bank. For 18 years she was Co-Director of the Centennial Bank travel club,

traveling to many foreign places including China, Australia, South America, and Europe. She

is now a group travel coordinator of her own company, “Get Away with Judy”, in HSV.

Frank was born in Long Beach, CA as his dad was on an aircraft carrier with the Navy.

Soon after, he and his mom moved to Arkansas until his dad got out of the Navy. The family

moved to Pecos and then Van Horn, TX where he was saved at the age of 12. At the age of 14

the family moved back to Morrilton where they remained until Frank graduated. During his

high school years he found his love for music and played the trumpet in the band. He also

discovered he could play by ear when he took up the keyboard. Frank worked as a purchasing

manager and buyer during his working career. After retirement from that career he went to

massage therapy school and now works for Sei Bella Spa in Little Rock three days a week as a

licensed Massage Therapist. When he finds time, he enjoys going to the gun range, reloading

ammo, woodworking in his shop, as well as his latest hobby of flying a drone. Together,

Frank and Judy have four children and seven grandchildren, all of whom live either in or

around Conway. This couple stays busy and enjoys life in Hot Springs Village.
